Abstract: | Summary Bibliographic protocol (bibp) is a new web-based protocol designed to provide library-based services for bibliographic links on the web. Links to books and journals may be easily created using bibp:ISBN and bibp:ISSN hyperreferences. A decentralized service model ensures that local bibliographic servers take precedence over publisher and global servers. The required resolution technology is widely deployed on the Internet and bibp-Z39.50 gateway software is available for implementation of library-based services. Future developments include additional support for article-based linking and server-to-server protocols for metadata sharing. |
