Abstract:A Confluence of many forces such as technological innovations and automation has triggered access service to replace circulation and act as one of the key parts of American library reorganization and reconfiguration. With the most comprehensive academic industries and the largest numbers of branches,the libraries in Harvard Uni-versity become a classical case in librarianship.They have been a range of service developments and creative meas-ures taken in their Access Service Department.The future access service will continue to straddles traditional and e-merging service models,and keep up with the pace of technology and science.It will be a source of strength to attract patrons and thus become more competitive in digital age.
