Abstract: | WANG Zhongmin was one of the important pioneers of library science education in China. The article systematically studies WANG Zhongnun's important contributions to library science education and bibliography education in China from five aspects: 1) He established the Library Science Special Course of Peking University and promoted the speciality continuously. He was one of the most important pioneers and founders of library science education in the People's Republic of China. 2) He formulated the teaching plan of the department of library science, set up the "teaching and research sections of library science and bibliography", built the reference room, and constantly expanded the teaching staff of the department. 3) He constructed a library science curriculum with clear intentions and reflecting the requirements of the times, and personally taught a large number of specialized courses, such as General Bibliography, Chinese Bibliography, etc. 4) He paid attention to strengthening the construction of professional textbooks, developed a plan for textbook construction, and personally wrote a large number of lecture notes and textbooks, such us Introduction to Bibliography, Usage of Chinese Reference Books and Bibliography of Historical Books, etc. 5) He was dedicated to education and focused on teaching to cultivate professional talents. He trained numerous dedicated library workers. WANG Zhongmin had made indelible contributions in collating ancient books, developing librarianship, especially in establishing library science education, cultivating professional talents and other aspects. The significance of commemorating WANG Zhongmin is aimed at continuously sorting out and conducting in- depth research on his valuable spiritual wealth in developing library science education and bibliography education, cultivating professional talents, and striving to promote the development of library science and library science education with Chinese characteristics. 33 refs. © 2023, Editorial Office of Journal of Library Science in China.
