As heartening as the Oklahoma picture may have been to broadcasters, the story is a different one in other states. This is the report of a similar survey, of Illinois judges, in which a wholly opposite opinion to that of their Oklahoma colleagues as expressed.  相似文献

Summary

Offering a wide range of unique and useful tools, the library of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) is a national center of excellence for terrorism research. MIPT and its library act as a living memorial to the victims, survivors, rescuers, and family members of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. MIPT conducts research into the social and political causes and effects of terrorism, and its mission is to prevent and deter terrorism in the United States or mitigate its effects.  相似文献

Abstract

In this evanescent electronic age, all libraries, especially public ones because they host so much of library clientele, need to be concerned about preservation. New developments in preservation, particularly digital imaging, provide not only new means, but exciting new ways of making the old new again to patrons. This piece, a version of it presented before the Oklahoma Library Association Preservation Section (Tom Clareson, Amigos, chair, 4 April 1995) reviews the findings, explains on-going preservation work at Oklahoma Baptist University, and sounds the clarion for preservation activist librarians.  相似文献

Abstract

At the University of Oklahoma, we began campus or home delivery of items from our library as well as those from other libraries. We have added more services over the years in response to requests from our users. In doing so, we found room for improvements. This paper addresses some of the issues we encountered.  相似文献

Legal notes

At some time in the future it may be that broadcasting will become a profession with an agreed upon preparatory course of study. At the present time, not only is there a lack of uniformity in course offerings and content, but there is no substantial agreement as to whether broadcasting is or even should be a profession. (In this connection, the recent proposals by William Chambliss in the September 18 issue of Broadcasting looking toward professional standards, education and licencing for advertising practitioners become particularly intriguing.)

Most encouraging however is the interest shown by teachers of broadcasting whenever they assemble for discussion of their common problems. In the following report, Professor Sherman P. Lawton, author of The Modern Broadcaster and coordinator of Broadcasting Instruction at the University of Oklahoma describes the questions raised (but not settled) at two recent meetings: a colloquium on the beginning course in broadcasting held as part of the “Annual Radio‐TV Conference and Clinic” in March 1961 at the University of Oklahoma, and a APBE‐sponsored session at the April meeting of the Institute for Education by Radio‐Television in Columbus.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

To facilitate systematic learning and to complement the limitations of conventional one-shot library instruction sessions, a hybrid embedded instruction model was designed and implemented for undergraduate students and residents in three disciplines at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Variations of hybrid instruction are explored, including models that combine face-to-face interactions, online content delivery, flipped instruction techniques, and individual consultations. The hybrid model highlights benefits of collaborative teaching between course faculty members and librarians and enhances the relevance of library instruction for users.  相似文献

SUMMARY

Websites are virtual front doors to the university library for many distance education students and for those simply choosing to access the numerous resources available to them through the library from off-campus. A driving force behind the redesign of the library website was to provide a user-friendly, content-rich website that offers assistance at the point of need, wherever the student is located. The University of Oklahoma Libraries' Web Committee's research and development focus combined with a collaborative environment provided a positive impetus for change to the library website and improved reference services to the University community.  相似文献

Significantly, most of the debate on Canon 35 has ignored the opinions of those who are expected to follow its dictates—members of the legal fraternity itself. To find out what judges and attorneys actually thought of broadcasting of trials became the concern of Dr. Sherman P. Lawton of the University of Oklahoma more than a year ago. Although the bar groups have at times surveyed their members with respect to the Canon, this was probably the first statewide study of its kind. Here Dr. Lawton reports on the results of the study in light of recent court developments.  相似文献

All radio and television stations in some way use the human voice as a major communications tool in their programming and their programs and advertising messages. Although some research into this instrument was conducted, particularly in the late 1920s and 1930s, research into the qualities and effects of broadcast voices recently has been infrequent.

Ken Hadwiger earned the M.A. from the University of Iowa and the Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. A former member of the faculty at Wichita State University, he presently is Director of Mass Communications at Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Hadwiger has logged eight years of professional radio and television announcing and directing experience.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

School nurses are an integral though often underserved population within the health care and education professions. To develop an effective outreach program for this group, an academic health sciences library conducted an information needs assessment of public school nurses in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. An online survey collected perceptions regarding information needs and behaviors, and a focus group session further explored the survey results. The assessment revealed that school nurses frequently require specific types of information to perform their responsibilities and face challenges accessing and integrating research into their daily practice. This article presents the implications and results of this assessment.  相似文献

That intangible attribute of a broadcast station commonly called its “image” isn't quite as hard to measure as that other intangible asset, “good will.” Nevertheless, measurement isn't simple, and the standards for measurement are not yet agreed upon. In the following article, a new technique of indexing a station's image without special training and supervision of the respondents is illustrated. Malachi C. Topping, author of “The Cultural Orientation of Certain ‘Western’ Characters on Television” in the Fall, 1965 issue of the Journal, earned his Ph.D. at Ohio State University and is Assistant Professor of Radio and Television at Oklahoma State University.  相似文献

Abstract

A current discussion topic among academic librarians is opening the library 24/7. Concern frequently focuses on whether the patrons per hour justify this use of resources. In other words, “If we open the library, will the users come?” In response to student demand for 24/7, researchers at the University of Oklahoma conducted a pilot study of late-night use at the main library. More than 80 percent of the respondents reported they were satisfied with the current hours. Seventy-four percent indicated their primary reason for coming to the library was to study. The preliminary results will be useful in designing follow-up studies. As a result of the pilot survey at Bizzell Memorial Library (the main library), the University Libraries administration has determined that extending hours to 24/7 will only be offered during finals week.  相似文献

In From Red Tape to Results, U.S. Vice President Albert Gore established a three-step process for creating service standards for federal agencies. This article presents the second step of this methodology, known as the front-line employee survey. The author administered this survey to staff of Oklahoma government document collections. The employee survey found that the Oklahoma government document employees are essentially satisfied with their positions; yet, improvement may be needed in services offered and in workplace facilities.  相似文献
