Research on foreign language anxiety has focused primarily on students in language training programs. The lack of attention to foreign language anxiety among counseling students speaking English as a second language has led to supervision issues among this growing student population in counseling programs. This article identifies areas such as self-efficacy and microskills that are affected by foreign language anxiety and recommends training strategies and the potential value of qualitative research methods to address the situation.  相似文献

The authors argue that students in counseling practicum courses experience many self‐defeating thoughts and anxieties. These worries can impede their performance as new counselors and can have a negative impact on the supervision process. The authors outline innovative methods used by cognitive therapists to address this anxiety. In addition, a model is presented for counselor educators to use cognitive restructuring techniques as a supervision tool. Summary Throughout their studies, counseling graduate students face many possible fears and anxieties that arise from their classroom experiences. The greatest fears and anxieties seem to be related to the counseling practicum experience. This experience is one in which students may feel incompetent, vulnerable, and unskilled as they begin to put their classroom knowledge and experiences into practice. If these fears and anxieties persist, students have a hard time making progress in the area of the counseling relationship and skill building. We have examined how practicum students' fears and anxieties might be addressed, using cognitive interventions. Such interventions allow students to take irrational thoughts and change them to rational thought patterns. This is accomplished by asking students to state their fears verbally, to think about the effects of the fears and the consequences, to think about intervening beliefs and thoughts, and to restate the fears in a rational manner. Our experience suggests that cognitive interventions are useful strategies to help practicum students combat fears and anxieties. Further research might examine the use of other behavioral interventions to address these fears. For example, does role‐playing a counseling technique in supervision make a student less anxious about applying it in a real counseling session? In summary, fear and anxiety can impede the preparation of counselors during their practicum experiences. Understanding the underlying thoughts that cause these fears can help students overcome self‐defeating thought patterns. Cognitive restructuring techniques have been shown to reduce tension and can be used with counseling practicum students to help relieve performance and supervision anxiety.  相似文献

Dissolution of a romantic relationship can adversely affect functioning among college students and represents one primary reason for seeking campus counseling. This study examined the associations among common coping strategies and distress following relationship dissolution. Avoidance and repetitive negative thinking (RNT) were significantly associated with distress, and gender was found to moderate the relationship between RNT and distress. Findings suggest that college counselors should consider emotional coping strategies following relationship dissolutions.  相似文献

分析高中生数学焦虑的现状,探究数学焦虑对高中生数学成绩的影响,为缓解高中生数学焦虑的心理辅导提供实证依据.采用自编的《高中生数学焦虑问卷》评估了207名高中生的数学焦虑水平,运用相关分析和回归分析探究高中生数学焦虑与学业成绩的关系.结果显示:高中生数学焦虑的平均得分为2.65;高中生的数学焦虑总体得分与其数学成绩呈显著性负相关(r=-0.322,P<0.01);高中生数学焦虑中的课堂学习过程焦虑和应考情景焦虑对其数学成绩具有显著的预测作用.  相似文献

In the general population, alcohol use disorders and psychiatric disorders co-occur. Despite ample evidence of the adverse effects of alcohol use on treatment outcomes, these relationships have not been examined among college students presenting at counseling centers. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of hazardous drinking among students receiving counseling at a university counseling center and to examine relationships between alcohol use, symptomatology, and treatment utilization. Participants were 214 students who had terminated therapy within a 3-year period. Intake assessments of alcohol use, anxiety, depression, and perceived stress were harvested from client files. Analyses indicated that 33% of the sample screened positive for hazardous alcohol use. Findings provided preliminary evidence that hazardous drinking is negatively related to both mental health and treatment utilization in university clinics. In light of this association, coupled with high base rates of risky alcohol use among college students, university counseling centers might consider implementing screening and brief intervention for hazardous drinking.  相似文献

采用调查问卷,调研天津中德职业技术学院314名高职学生英语课堂焦虑感与口语交际策略、口语水平之间的关系。结果发现,高职学生英语课堂焦虑呈中度焦虑程度;在英语课堂焦虑的四个因子中,均值从高到低依次为考试焦虑,交际畏惧,负评价恐惧及对英语课的焦虑。因此,在日常高职英语口语教学中,英语教师应该采取有效对策,降低高职学生口语课堂焦虑心理,提高英语口语水平,增强教学效果。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between a set of self–efficacy variables and a set of variables assessing attitudes toward counseling. Results revealed a significant relationship between self–efficacy and attitudes toward counseling among a sample of 253 first–year college students. Low perceptions of self–efficacy were associated with a devaluation of career counseling and more negative attitudes toward seeking personal counseling. Implications for these findings are discussed.  相似文献

本研究采用问卷调查法对某综合大学的666名大学生进行施测,以考察大学生防御性悲观的影响因素。多元回归分析结果表明:成绩回避目标、焦虑、抑郁能够显著正向预测消极期望,学习能力效能感能够显著负向预测消极期望,共解释消极期望变异量的48.2%;掌握回避目标、成绩回避目标、抑郁对反思性有显著的正向预测作用,联合预测反思性变异的44%。结论:回避性成就目标取向、低学业自我效能、焦虑和抑郁情绪是大学生防御性悲观的重要预测指标。未来研究需要综合已有变量,深入探讨个体选择防御性悲观策略的内在原因和解释模型,以便帮助人们更加深刻地洞悉防御性悲观者的动机。  相似文献

Among these, accurately identifying client presentations of dissociative identity disorder (DID) can be especially challenging because students with DID sometimes present as if they are experiencing another problem, such as a mood, anxiety, or psychotic disorder. 目的:探讨藏族大学生社会支持与问题行为的关系。方法:采用社会支持评定量表和青少年行为问卷,对西藏地区三所高校的460名藏族大学生进行问卷调查。结果:(1)藏族大学生客观支持与退缩、神经质、考试焦虑和问题行为总分存在显著负相关,主观支持与攻击行为、退缩、神经质、考试焦虑和问题行为总分存在显著负相关,支持利用度与问题行为各维度和问题行为总分不存在相关。(2)回归分析发现,藏族大学生主观支持可以预测攻击行为、退缩、神经质和考试焦虑,客观支持与支持利用度均无法预测问题行为,社会支持的三个维度对问题行为的学业适应不良、违纪都没有显著影响。结论:社会支持是影响藏族大学生问题行为的重要因素之一。  相似文献

The effects of a stress management course on the stress knowledge and coping techniques of 101 graduate students in counseling were examined. Participants, drawn from various racial groups, were typically female (79%) and 21 to 55 years of age. Seven of the 8 null hypotheses were rejected. There were significant differences on 6 of the 7 dependent variables (overall knowledge of stress, perceived state and trait anxiety, stress response to positive and negative self‐statements, and general and current stress level). The treatment group learned and implemented stress management strategies to better cope with stress. Recommendations and further directions for research are offered.  相似文献

数学焦虑、数学自我效能和学习策略是影响大学生数学成绩的主要因素.数学焦虑、数学自我效能与学习策略对数学成绩均有预测作用.目前,我国大学生的数学考试焦虑比较严重,资源学习策略水平比较低;数学成绩与学习策略均存在极其显著的性别差异,女生数学成绩与学习策略水平均优于男生,数学焦虑水平低于男生;数学自我效能、学习策略之间,以及它们与数学成绩之间均存在显著正相关,数学焦虑与数学自我效能、学习策略、数学成绩之间均存在显著负相关.  相似文献

This study examines the relationship of cognitive complexity, counselor anxiety, and client disability condition to accurate empathy on the part of students in training. A sample (n = 28) of students in a graduate counseling program observed a series of eight vignettes of counseling interviews (four clients with disabilities and four without disabilities) and reported a verbal counseling response to a client statement. A significant main effect was found for the cognitive complexity variable only (p < .05). A significant interaction among cognitive complexity, anxiety, and client disability condition (p < .01) indicated that all three factors interact to influence empathy. Implications for research and the training of counselors are discussed.  相似文献

Increases in the number of college students seeking mental health services require counseling centers to explore innovative strategies to provide effective and efficient treatments. Group interventions offer an alternative to traditional individual counseling, allowing centers to serve more students with fewer clinical staff (Burlingame et al., 2016). Of current group modalities, mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been growing in popularity as an effective approach for addressing college students’ increasingly complex needs. This study describes the evaluation of a three-session mindfulness-based intervention on students’ mindfulness, symptoms, and stress. Compared to a comparison group of 109 students not seeking counseling center services, 78 students who received the intervention reported increased mindfulness, and decreased symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress at the end of the group. Furthermore, improvements in mindfulness mediated intervention effects on symptoms of depression and anxiety. These gains were generally maintained 3 weeks later. These findings support the benefits of brief group interventions for college students. Suggestions for modifications to the intervention and for future research are discussed.  相似文献

Prepracticum service‐learning is an integral part of the curriculum for counselor education students at a large southwestern university. Service‐learning is accomplished by placing novice students in school or community agency settings to acquire early, practical, field‐based experience. Activities are more structured and supervised than in an internship or practicum. Analysis indicated that prepracticum service‐learning had a positive significant relationship with counselor self‐efficacy and a significant negative relationship with student anxiety. However, substantial counseling course work and experience with counseling‐related work both had a stronger influence than did prepracticum service‐learning, indicating that the latter is more appropriate for novice students.  相似文献

目的:探索改善贫困大学生心理健康状况的方法。方法:随机抽取有心理辅导需求和无辅导需求的贫困大学生各30名作为实验组与对照组,对实验组成员进行贝克认知疗法辅导,每周一次共6次的辅导,对照组处于常态。辅导前后采用SDS、SAS、SCL-90对实验组进行测量,并就辅导前后与对照组的心理测量结果进行对比研究。结果:实验组接受辅导后与对照组在SDS、SAS上得分的差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05);在SCL-90的总分及抑郁、焦虑、敌对、恐怖和精神病性因子上得分的差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05);实验组在辅导前与辅导后在SDS、SAS的得分以及在SCL-90中的躯体化、抑郁、焦虑、恐怖和精神病性因子的得分的差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05)。结论:贝克认知疗法在改善贫困大学生抑郁、焦虑、以及躯体化、恐怖和精神病性方面有显著作用,有利于提高贫困大学生的心理健康水平。  相似文献
