The information landscape and research habits of university students have changed in recent years as a result of the proliferation of free and easily accessible information via the internet. As such, the duties and roles performed by academic librarians have come under pressure to adjust to these changes. One such means of adjustment has come in the form of library-led co-curricular activities, whereby librarians design initiatives to provide students with a platform for meaningful engagement with undervalued library collections. The Calligraphy Connections Project (CCP) was designed and initiated by librarians in order to get students to interact with culturally significant, historical East Asian collections, which had been flagged for their low usage rates. The CCP involved the participation of sixty students of varied disciplinary backgrounds from 10 different universities across Korea, Hong Kong and Mainland China. The works produced by students in the project were on display in exhibitions across East Asia and the United Kingdom. This article explores the different facets of the CCP, the events, student outcomes and challenges, and critically reflects upon the project through the lens of three threshold concepts of the ACRL Framework. Wider readership empowered by librarians for the students' creative work is a driving force for their advancement in cultural study and research. It is our belief that this project can act as a model of student engagement, and as a testimony to the effectiveness of library-led co-curricular initiatives. 相似文献

图书馆版权政策是图书馆尊重版权的宣示,也是图书馆工作者和用户规避版权风险的指南性规章。鉴于国内制定版权政策的图书馆比率偏低、政策构建体系不完善等现状,文章通过网上调查,对大陆、香港、台湾部分高校图书馆版权政策进行比较与评估。认为香港图书馆版权政策形式更为灵活,结构更为完善,管理机构更为健全;而台湾图书馆版权政策在宣传力度、执行绩效上具有更大优势;港台经验值得大陆高校图书馆借鉴。 相似文献

AbstractThis study is to quantitatively analyze the research activity in the area of Chinese Library and Information Science (LIS) from 1975 to 2004 based on Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). Results show that there are increases in both the number of papers and the quality of publishing channels. It was higher than the world average for Chinese research effort in LIS area. About 79% of the total LIS papers in China were from universities. The web of science (WOS) journals are representative for the Chinese LIS publications in general. The quantity and quality of papers from Hong Kong were higher than that from Mainland China. About half of the papers from China were completed through either international or domestical collaborations. The major collaborators were from Europe and North America and the higher quality of collaborations were from Oceania and North America. 相似文献

This paper developed a Chinese model of crisis communication by using a contextual perspective capable of identifying influences at the crisis-event level (crisis type, crisis stakeholder, crisis stage, and crisis system) and the societal level (polities, economic systems, and media systems) in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. An analysis of 93 academic works published in 15 journals demonstrated the effects of economic development, politics, and the media on crisis communication practices in Chinese societies. 相似文献

In a newly established venture to support librarians who are working to build collections to better serve their East Asian user communities, the American Librarian Association (ALA) and the Hong Kong Book Fair (HKBF) provided funding for a group of ten U.S. academic and public librarians responsible for selecting Chinese language materials to attend the July 2001 HKBF, which in recent years has become one of the largest gatherings of booksellers in East Asia. This article discusses how international collection development is enhanced and professional librarian skills are honed through participation in organized programs such as the HKBF/U. S. Hong Kong has always been regarded as a critical region of Cultural China. Surprisingly, traditional Chinese medicine has not yet been accepted as legitimate in the city. This study uses acupuncture as a case to investigate the way media texts work to organize a field of knowledge and practices about health in a post-colonial society where contrasting perspectives and hybrid ideas rooted from the East and the West intermingle. Acupuncture is conceptualized as socially constructed health knowledge that has become increasingly legitimate in media discourse. Through a mixed-method approach that combines discourse and content analysis, a total of 666 news articles related to acupuncture published in two Hong Kong newspapers over a 10-year period were analyzed. Three major forms of discursive construction of legitimation – authorization, rationalization, and moral evaluation – were identified and elaborated in association with the texts and the social contexts. This study reveals a complex process of generating legitimacy for health knowledge through news narratives. 相似文献

In recent years, many academic libraries have started adopting social media by, for example, establishing their own Facebook pages. Our research investigates the current Facebook usage among seven university libraries in Hong Kong. Using a mixed-method research approach, we examined the characteristics of academic libraries Facebook usage and its effectiveness to engage with their patrons, based on online observations and Web content analysis from the publicly available data of the Facebook pages.Our results indicated that most libraries in Hong Kong adopted Facebook as a marketing tool, yet the user engagement level in these pages is low. In addition, we also discovered that communication-related posts and video-type posts can attract the most attention of patrons. Based on these outcomes, we provided some recommendations on the application of Facebook for academic libraries. 相似文献

Summary Loyal to long-held convictions of what undergraduates need intellectually, academic librarians ignore the critical signs that they may be failing students and faculty. Unless librarians are willing to question assumptions about how students think, what they value, and how external incentives shape their behavior in the information environment, they will find themselves increasingly at the margins of students' academic life. If there are important questions that beg for answers before librarians can redefine the teaching role of libraries, librarians have probably never been in a stronger position as a profession to engage in the research necessary for meaningful solutions. 相似文献

Summary Students have a need to go beyond their assigned texts when studying the events of the Holocaust. Autobiographies are often the most moving, personal accounts of these horrific times. Reference librarians can offer much assistance for research on specific autobiographies, working in concert with faculty.
