Prof.Geliy Alexandrovich Zherebtsov is a distinguished scientist in geospace physics and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). As director of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) of RAS’ Siberian Branch between 1984 and 2011, he joined hands with Prof. WU Ji, a leading space scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to set up a unique joint research center and vigorously pushed forward the collaboration between their institutes. Thanks to his untiring efforts, the center later expanded to include nearly all space weather research institutions in Russia. Under his leadership, Russian scientists have been actively involved in a CAS-initiated international project for global-scale monitoring of space weather.  相似文献

To speed up the regional development in central and western China is a strategic decision made by the Chinese government at the turn of the century. For CAS research professionals, active participation into the campaign is a solemn historic commitment and a major task of the CAS-piloted national Knowledge Innovation Program. In early 2000, the CAS leadership formulated an Action Plan for Western China Development and initiated a research program aiming at the environmental evolution, ecological restoration and the sustainable exploitation of the local resources in the region.  相似文献

OUYANG Ziyuan is a distinguished geologist and cosmochemist, known as the founding father of the Chinese lunar exploration program. In the past two decades, he played a leading role in developing China's first lunar probes and blueprinting China's lunar exploration roadmap. He worked as chief scientist of the nation's first lunar mission, which was carried out by a China-made moon-orbiting spacecraft called Chang'e-1. For the first time in the Chinese history, Chang'e-1 accomplished moon observation in lunar orbit for nearly 16 months and obtained 100m-resolution 3D imagery of the entire moon's surface. After the success of Chang'e-1, OUYANG continued to chair the Chang'e-2 mission, the second lunar orbiter launched by China in 2010 which mapped the entire globe of the Moon in 7m resolution.  相似文献

China's capacity for indigenous S&T innovation is believed to have been hampered by its lack of homegrown research facilities. To address the problem, a pilot program for the research and development of major S&T facilities has been launched at CAS. The kick-off meeting was held on 28 March in the CAS Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry in Beijing.  相似文献

The German Axel Mosig has spent more than five years at the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology (PICB), a joint effort of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the German Max Planck Society. He studied computer science at the University of Bonn, where he also received his Ph.D. in 2004. In 2005, he became one of the first scientists at the newly established PICB in Shanghai. Two years ago, he returned to Germany and was appointed Professor at Ruhr University Bochum. The current focus of his research is computational bioimaging and RNomics.  相似文献

China is facing a variety of serious ecological problems such as land desertification, soil erosion, low forest coverage and quality, grassland degradation, lake eutrophication, wetland shrinkage, biodiversity depletion, and exotic species invasion. Although the Chinese government has adopted a number of measures to protect and restore ecosystems in this country, difficulties are met in implementing them, especially many significant scientific and technological problems remain unsolved. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has been building scientific infrastructure to encourage and support ecologists to conduct researches to meet national demands in this regard. Under the Umbrella Program of Integrated Ecosystem Studies, CAS is supporting six ecological research projects, and has achieved a number of primary research results.  相似文献
