The purpose of this study was to develop and cross-validate anthropometric body composition equations for the elderly (i.e., ≥ 65 years old). This was undertaken due to a lack of accurate and reliable body composition equations for the elderly. One-hundred fifty male (n = 75) and female (n = 75; mean age = 70 years, SD = 3.71 years) elderly were randomly assigned to either an equation development sample (n = 50) or an equation validation sample (n = 25), respectively. The male and female development and validation sample groups, respectively, were joined to make combined development (n = 100) and validation (n = 50) samples. Hydrodensitometry was used to determine participant body density, percent fat, fat-free mass, and fat weight for use as the criterion variables by which prediction equations could be developed and validated. The equations presented are for the prediction of body density [body density = 1.0554 + .0142 (gender) + .0267 (height) - .00022 (midaxillary) - .00086 (hip circumference)], percent fat [% fat = .1688 (body mass index) + .542 (hip circumference) -.1639 (weight) -5.7033 (gender) -7.9498], fat-free mass [fat-free mass = 30.3769 + 8.0108 (height) + .824 (weight) - .1355 (suprailiac) - .5419 (hip circumference)], and fat weight [fat weight = .2449 (weight) + .5218 (hip circumference) - .076 (thigh circumference) - 4.0299 (gender) - 37.8619]. The equations provided estimates that were not statistically different from the hydrostatically determined criterion variables but were statisfically different from estimates derived from other published "elderly" body composition equations.  相似文献

Adverse effects of energy restriction on myogenic enzymes in judoists   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
In this study, we examined the effects of weight reduction by restricting energy intake on muscle function and serum concentrations of myogenic enzymes in judoists. Twenty-seven male judoists aged 19.3 +/- 0.6 years (mean +/- s) were divided into three groups based on the extent of body weight reduction: high weight reduction (height 1.70 +/- 0.05 m, body mass 78.5 +/- 13.6 kg), low weight reduction (height 1.70 +/- 0.05 m, body mass 80.7 +/- 13.1 kg) and a group that maintained body weight while continuing to perform exercise training (height 1.78 +/- 0.07 m, body mass 78.7 +/- 8.8 kg). Body composition, blood biochemistry, energy intake and anaerobic power were assessed on four occasions: 20 days (baseline data), 4 days and 1 day before and 7 days after competition. Compared with baseline, body mass and fat-free mass were significantly lower 1 day before competition in the high and low weight reduction groups (both P < 0.01); these changes persisted for 7 days after competition in the high weight reduction group. Serum creatine kinase was significantly elevated 1 day before competition in all groups (all P < 0.05), and remained higher 7 days after competition in both the high and low weight reduction groups. Compared with baseline, maximal anaerobic power was significantly lower 1 day before competition only in the high weight reduction group (P < 0.01). Our results suggest that energy restriction in addition to intense exercise training before major competition has an adverse effect on anaerobic power and elevates serum creatine kinase concentration, leading to an impairment of muscular function and an increased susceptibility of muscle tissue to injury.  相似文献

Oxygen uptake (VO2) during treadmill exercise is directly related to the speed and grade, as well as the participant's body weight. To determine whether body composition also affects VO2 (ml.kg-1.min-1) during exercise, we studied 14 male body builders (M weight = 99 kg, SD = 7; M height = 180 cm, SD = 8; M body fat = 8%, SD = 3; M fat free mass = 91 kg, SD = 7) and 14 weight-matched men (M weight = 99 kg, SD = 9; M height = 179 cm, SD = 5; M body fat = 24%, SD = 5; M fat free mass = 73 kg, SD = 9). Percentage of body fat, t(13) = 8.185, p < .0001, and fat free mass, t(13) = 5.723, p < .0001, were significantly different between groups. VO2 was measured by respiratory gas analysis at rest and during three different submaximal workrates while walking on the treadmill without using the handrails for support. VO2 was significantly greater for the lean, highly muscular men at rest: 5.6 +/- 1 vs. 4.0 +/- 1 ml.kg-1.min-1, F(1, 26) = 21.185, p < .001; Stage 1: 1.7 mph/10%, 18.5 +/- 2 vs. 16.1 +/- 2 ml.kg-1.min-1, F(1, 26) = 6.002, p < .05; Stage 2: 2.5 mph/12%, 26.6 +/- 3 vs. 23.1 +/- 2 ml.kg-1.min-1, F(1, 26) = 7.991, p < .01; and Stage 3:3.4 mph/14%, 39.3 +/- 5 vs. 33.5 +/- 5 ml.kg-1.min-1, F(1, 26) = 7.682, p < .01, body builders versus weight-matched men, respectively. However, net VO2 (i.e., exercise VO2 - rest VO2) was not significantly different between the two groups at any of the matched exercise stages. The findings from this study indicate that VO2 during weight-bearing exercise performed at the same submaximal workrate is higher for male body builders compared to that measured in weight-matched men and that which is predicted by standard equations. These observed differences in exercise VO2 appear to be due to the higher resting VO2 in highly muscular participants.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the somatotype and size of elite female basketball players in terms of playing position and team performance. Anthropometry and somatotype data were collected on 168 players from 14 countries before the Women's World Basketball Championship, Australia, 1994. There were 64 guards (mean +/- s: age 25.4 +/- 3.3 years, height 1.72 +/- 0.06 m, mass 66.1 +/- 6.2 kg, somatotype = 2.9-3.9-2.6), 57 forwards (age 25.2 +/- 3.8 years, height 1.81 +/- 0.06 m, mass 73.3 +/- 5.9 kg, somatotype = 2.8-3.5-3.2) and 47 centres (age 24.1 +/- 3.1 years, height 1.90 +/- 0.06 m, mass 82.6 +/- 8.2 kg, somatotype = 3.2-3.1-3.4). Mean somatotypes by position were significantly different (F = 7.73, P < 0.01). Guards had greater mesomorphy than centres and less ectomorphy than forwards and centres. When discriminant function analysis was applied to endomorphy, mesomorphy, ectomorphy, age, height and mass, only height, mass and ectomorphy entered (Wilks' lambda = 0.351, F = 31.40, P < 0.000), 70% of the variance was accounted for, and 72% of players were correctly classified. In the four top versus four bottom teams, guards were taller and more ectomorphic, forwards were taller, with lower mesomorphy and higher ectomorphy, and centres did not differ. Thus there are some differences in somatotypes by position and team placing, but the combination of height, mass and ectomorphy provide the best differentiation by position.  相似文献

The ability of bioelectrical impedance analysis and anthropometry to predict fat mass and fat-free mass was compared in a sample of 82 male athletes from a wide variety of sports, using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) as the reference method. The percent fat measured by DXA was 10.9+/-4.9% (mean +/- s), and fat mass was predicted with a standard error of the estimate of 1.7 kg for skinfolds and 2.8 kg for bioelectrical impedance analysis (P < 0.001). Fat-free mass was predicted with a standard error of the estimate of 1.7 kg for anthropometry and 2.6 kg for bioelectrical impedance analysis (P < 0.001). Regression of various individual skinfolds and summed skinfolds, to examine the effect of skinfold selection combinations by stepwise regression, produced an optimal fat mass prediction using the thigh and abdominal skinfold sites, and an optimal fat-free mass prediction using the thigh, abdominal and supra-ilium sites. These results suggest that anthropometry offers a better way of assessing body composition in athletes than bioelectrical impedance analysis. Applying the derived equations to a separate sample of 24 athletes predicted fat and fat-free mass with a total error of 2.3 kg (2.9%) and 2.2 kg (2.7%), respectively. Combining the samples introduced more heterogeneity into the sample (n = 106), and the optimal prediction of fat mass used six skinfolds in producing a similar standard error of the estimate (1.7 kg), although this explained a further 4% of the variation in DXA-derived fat. Fat-free mass was predicted best from four skinfolds, although the standard error of the estimate and coefficient of determination were unchanged.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to establish percentile norms and to compare skinfold and other anthropometric measurements of 647 Italian, Jewish, and Negro preadolescent boys from the Boston, Massachusetts area. Skinfolds were measured at five sites. Other measurements included height, weight, bi-iliac diameter, and selected girths.

Correlations were determined between skinfolds and selected body build components. Interskinfold r's ranged from moderate to high values. The largest percentile scores were found within the Jewish group. Analysis of variance was employed to compare the body fat, height, and weight of each group. Significant differences were found relative to certain skinfolds and weight between ethnic groups at the 1 percent level.  相似文献

Bilateral leg extension power and fat-free mass in young oarsmen   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We evaluated the impact of bilateral leg extension power and fat-free mass on 2000 m rowing ergometer performance in 332 young oarsmen (age 21+/-2 years, height 1.76+/-0.05 m, body mass 62+/-6 kg; mean+/-s). The 2000 m rowing performance time was correlated with height (1.62-1.93 m; R2=0.23, P<0.001), body mass (53-95 kg; R2=0.53, P<0.001), fat-free mass (47-82 kg; R2=0.58, P<0.001) and bilateral leg extension power (1202-3302 W; R2=0.38, P<0.001). Multiple regression analysis selected fat-free mass and bilateral leg extension power as regressor variables. Fat-free mass explained 58% of the variability in rowing performance and the inclusion of bilateral leg extension power improved the power of prediction by 5%. The results suggest that rowing involves almost every muscle in the body and that bilateral leg extension power is very important during this activity.  相似文献

The subjects were 31 successful schoolboy rugby players and 25 successful schoolboy hurlers; 34 non-team members acted as controls. Thirty-one anthropometric measurements were taken on each subject: height, weight, sitting height, five skeletal lengths, six skeletal diameters, 13 muscle circumferences and four skinfolds. The non-players were significantly smaller than both the rugby players and the hurlers in weight, biacromial diameter, bideltoid, neck, chest, flexed arm, upper and lower thigh and calf circumferences. The non-players were significantly smaller than the rugby players in arm length, femur diameter and waist, hip and relaxed arm circumferences. The non-players were significantly smaller than the hurlers in femur length, biiliac and ankle diameters. There were no statistically significant differences between the rugby players and hurlers. Discriminant analysis produced a function containing terms for height, weight, fat free weight, humerus diameter and neck, bideltoid, forearm and calf circumferences which correctly assigned 83 (92%) of the subjects to 'player' and 'non-player' categories. When the function was applied to the 15 members of the rugby team of a different school, 14 were placed in the 'player' category and one subject was given a borderline classification. It is concluded that there were differences in physique between the team members and non-members and that the techniques used in the study were effective in quantifying them.  相似文献

在过去的二十余年间,关于学生体质研究较多集中在对不同调研年各地区学生体质现状的描述和比较研究,而针对学生体质水平(如身体形态等)发展规律或动态变化的研究相对较少。本研究以1985年全国学生体质调研数据为基础,重点选择1985年、1995年和2005年7—18岁中、小学生为研究对象,以身体形态指标为研究内容,在重点比较20年间中国学生身体形态生长发育水平和速度的变化的基础上,揭示中国学生身体形态生长发育规律的变化,为进一步改善我国学生体质状况和学校体育卫生工作提供理论依据。研究发现:(1)我国中小学生1985—2005年间,身高、体重和胸围均有不同程度的增长,生长水平表现出明显的长期趋势,但前10年(1985—1995年)和后10年(1995—2005年)相比,身高、体重和胸围增长值和增长速度呈现不同的特点,具体表现为身高“前快后慢”和体重“前慢后快”、胸围保持不变的特点。也就是说,我国学生长度生长水平的高峰期在今后可能速度会放慢,但是重量和围度生长的高峰期将会继续。(2)从1985年到2005年。我国城乡学生身体形态的生长速度具有整体加速、快速增长期提前和持续增长期延长的基本特点。(3)身高、体重和胸围的突增期在20年间没有明显改变。但是,城市和乡村男生胸围突增期延迟的问题要引起重视。  相似文献

目的:描述上海市20~59岁成年人体脂率(BF%)、身体质量指数(BMI)、腰围(WC)等形态指标人群分布特征,探讨BF%、BMI、WC的异同点。方法:基于2020年第五次国民体质监测上海市20~59岁成年人数据库,纳入26 826名研究对象,分析不同性别、年龄组成年人BF%、BMI、WC特征以及相关人群分布。结论:上海市成年男性WC随年龄增长而增大,成年女性BF%和WC随年龄的增长而增长。以BF%、BMI、WC 3个指标评判上海市20~59岁成年人超重与肥胖情况时存在着一定的差异。上海市成年男性以WC为标准检出肥胖率最高,以BF%为标准检出超正常标准率最高;上海市成年女性以BF%为标准检出超正常标准率及肥胖率最高。BMI与BF%相结合,或与WC相结合,可以反映身体脂肪含量及比例,以及脂肪分布。  相似文献

为研究中国女子手球队员身体形态特点,对国家女子手球队和地方队队员的身高、体重、体脂百分比进行测定,同时对北京奥运会参赛队伍队员的基本形态特点进行对比分析;对中国队不同优势手球运动员上臂和大腿的围度、上臂和膝屈伸的最大力量和爆发力进行了测定。研究结果如下:1)中国女子手球队运动员比地方队身材高大,皮脂百分比低,与欧洲强队有相似的身高和体重特点,比世界强队韩国队身材高大。身高和体重应与手球运动员攻防竞技水平相适应,就某一个成年手球运动员而言,要提高专项移动对抗能力,应使瘦体重尽量高。2)边锋比内卫、底线、守门员身高低、体重轻,而内卫、底线和守门员身材相似,中国女子手球运动员位置身材特点与世界强队相似。不同位置手球运动员身材特点不一样,以适应各位置攻防特点需求。3)优势手上臂瘦体重高于非优势手,对侧下肢屈伸的最大力量比同侧大,推测长期的手球运动对不同优势手运动员肢体形态、机能产生了一定影响。  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the influence of a pressurized tennis ball 6% greater in diameter (Type 3) than a standard sized (Type 2) ball on performance and the physiological responses to the Loughborough Intermittent Tennis Test (LITT) (Davey et al., 2002). Eight competitive tennis players (males, n = 4, age 24.8+/-3.5 years, body mass 81.3+/-3.1 kg, height 1.74+/-0.02 m, estimated VO2max 54.4+/-2.6 ml x kg(-1) min(-1); females, n = 4, age 26.3+/-3.1 years, body mass 67.0+/-6.7 kg, height 1.68 + 0.02 m, estimated VO2max 49.9+/-3.3 ml kg(-1) min(-1); mean+/-s(x)) completed two main trials of the LITT with either the Type 2 or Type 3 tennis balls to the point of volitional fatigue. The mean time to volitional fatigue was 29.5% greater during the Type 3 trials than during the Type 2 trials (56.9+/-6.4 min vs 40.1+/-3.7 min; P < 0.05). The mean percentage accuracy and mean percentage consistency recorded for the entire LITT were greater for the Type 3 than the Type 2 trials (9.2+/-1.5 vs 4.0+/-0.3% and 61.1+/-0.6 vs 51.3+/-0.6%, respectively; P < 0.01). A significantly lower mean heart rate and blood lactate concentration were observed during the Type 3 than during the Type 2 trials. There was a clear effect of ball diameter on tennis performance and certain physiological responses.  相似文献

测定了参加"2009年上海巅峰暑期减肥运动营"23名重度肥胖女性儿童青少年运动减肥前后身体形态指标,经过4周运动减肥后,体脂百分比、体重指数(BMI)、脂肪体重、腰围、臀围都有不同程度的下降。体脂百分比下降幅度明显大于BMI,腰围/身高比的下降幅度明显大于臀围/身高比。与BMI比较,体脂百分比是评价肥胖程度和运动减肥效果的理想指标。  相似文献

对肥胖大学生进行为期6周有氧运动干预,观察其身体形态、身体素质和血脂的影响,探究运动减肥对肥胖大学生身体健康的促进作用。选取38名BMI≥28的在校大学生,年龄在18-20周岁。开课前、结课后进行身高、体重、胸围、体脂率、基础代谢率、空腹血糖、空腹血脂等各项指标检查。减脂课程持续6周,每周一、三、五进行11.5小时有氧运动,并进行适当的饮食控制,比较各项指标。6周有氧运动加合理饮食对肥胖大学生身体形态指标、身体素质指标以及生理生化指标均有明显改善。  相似文献

The primary purpose of this study was to determine if muscular endurance is affected by referenced waist circumference groupings, independent of body mass and subcutaneous abdominal fat, in women. This study also explored whether selected body composition measures were associated with muscular endurance. Eighty-four women were measured for height, weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and abdominal skinfold thickness (SFAB) and performed 60-s sit-ups (SU) and maximal push-ups (PU) tests. Mean differences in SU and PU scores were tested across three groups based on WC as follows: WCG1 < 70 cm; WCG2 between 70 and 89 cm; WCG3 > or = 90 cm. There were no significant differences in SU and PU scores between WCG1 and WCG2. WCG3 had significantly lower SU and PU scores compared to the other groups. After adjusting for the influence of SFAB, BMI, and weight, the differences disappeared. The regression analysis revealed a two-variable (BMI and SFAB) model that accounted for the variation in SU performance. For PU, only BMI loaded into the regression model. The results of this study suggest that women with a WC > or = 90 cm have decreased muscular endurance compared to their lower WC counterparts. 对6682名7~18岁健康、发育正常的男女学生形态、体成份与肺活量进行了测量和相关分析,结果表明:肺活量与身高、胸围、体重等呈正相关,与皮脂厚度呈负相关.在做典型相关分析时,其影响因素的相关系数:身高>瘦体重>胸围>体脂百分比.由此建议,在推算肺活量时,除用身高、胸围、体重等外,皮脂厚度和瘦体重也是不可抛弃的因素.  相似文献
