The DIIA (Diploma in Investment Analysis) students from the FBM (Faculty of Business Management) were required to undertake several MOF (Mathematic of Finance) courses. The passing rates for all of the MOF courses were good except for one course. There are many factors for this low passing rate phenomenon for this particular MOF course. One of the factors is mathematics anxiety as suggested by Richardson in 1971. As a result, this paper is carried out in order to measure the undergraduates' level of mathematics anxiety in general and between genders in this one particular course. The outcome is expected to fill in the gap as study of anxiety in MOF is still lacking. A 30-item MARS (Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale) is adapted and used in this study, because this course is predominant by complex computations. The Ss (samples) of the study are 119 students who undertook this MOF course during the study semester of December 2008 to April 2009 in UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA). It is expected that the findings will show that the Ss have a considerably high mean for mathematics anxiety; and female students have a higher mean of mathematics anxiety as compared to their male counterparts. The study confirms the expectation of the researchers. In terms of the final and overall results, it was expected that the passing percentage be dominated by the male students. However, at the end of the study, the overall performance of the female students was much better compared to their male counterparts.  相似文献

Generic skills are skills which contribute towards individual's effective and successful participation in the workplace. For juveniles, Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) is one of the platforms that provide them generic skills which enable them to compete for job market. The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of generic skills that has been inculcated through TVE on juveniles in one of the juvenile schools in Malaysia, the time the teachers spent on inculcating the skills, and the challenges the instructors face in the process. There are four focuses of the generic skills that are of interest in this study: communication, teamwork, problem solving and technology. Eight teachers and 119 juveniles were chosen as the respondents from the Juvenile School (JS). The data collected was through a set of questionnaires from the respondents, and these were analyzed by using frequency, percentage and mean score. The findings from this research show that the level of generic skills inculcated as perceived by the juveniles is at a moderate level. The perceived moderate level of skill acquire of the juveniles is justified by the moderate amount of time that the teachers believed they spend in instilling the generic skills. The teachers also suggested that the lack of understanding on what generic skills are is the main reason for not inculcating generic skills at its highest level. In conclusion, generic skills inculcation on juveniles through TVE in Juvenile School is at an average level. Measures have to be taken so that inculcation of generic skills can be increase to a higher level, as these generic skills will benefit juveniles in the labor force market.  相似文献

Batch process monitoring based on multilevel ICA-PCA   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this paper, we describe a new batch process monitoring method based on multilevel independent component analysis and principal component analysis (MLICA-PCA). Unlike the conventional multi-way principal component analysis (MPCA) method, MLICA-PCA provides a separated interpretation for multilevel batch process data. Batch process data are partitioned into two levels: the within-batch level and the between-batch level. In each level, the Gaussian and non-Gaussian components of process information can be separately extracted.I^2 T^2 and SPE statistics are individually built and monitored. The new method facilitates fault diagnosis. Since the two variation levels are decomposed, the variables responsible for faults in each level can be identified and interpreted more easily. A case study of the Dupont benchmark process showed that the proposed method was more efficient and interpretable in fault detection and diagnosis, compared to the alternative batch process monitoring method.  相似文献

The Weibull distribution has been widely used in reliability fields. A mixed Weibull distribution represents a popu- lation that consists of several Weibull subpopulations. In this paper, a new approach which combines the least-squares method with Bayes’ theorem, takes advantage of the parameter estimation for single Weibull distribution is developed to estimate the pa- rameters of each subpopulation. The estimates given by this paper also satisfy the maximum likelihood equation. The estimates of the failure rate of the mixed Weibull population are given. An actual test data is computed by using the proposed method. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test turns out that the proposed method yields more accurate result.  相似文献

Labeling information in a complex irregular region is a useful procedure occurring frequently in sheet metal and the furniture industry which will be beneficial in parts management. A fast code-based labeler (FCBL) is proposed to accomplish this objective in this paper. The region is first discretized, and then encoded by the Freeman encoding technique for providing the 2D regional information by 1D codes with redundancies omitted. We enhance the encoding scheme to make it more suitable for our complex problem. Based on the codes, searching algorithms are designed and can be extended with customized constraints. In addition, by introducing a smart optimal direction estimation, the labeling speed and accuracy of FCBL are significantly improved. Experiments with a large range of real data gained from industrial factories demonstrate the stability and millisecond-level speed of FCBL. The proposed method has been integrated into a shipbuilding CAD system, and plays a very important role in ship parts labeling process.  相似文献

In this paper, a mathematical model consisting of forward and backward models is built on parallel genetic algorithms (PGAs) for fault diagnosis in a transmission power system. A new method to reduce the scale of fault sections is developed in the forward model and the message passing interface (MPI) approach is chosen to parallel the genetic algorithms by global single-population master-slave method (GPGAs). The proposed approach is applied to a sample system consisting of 28 sections, 84 protective relays and 40 circuit breakers. Simulation results show that the new model based on GPGAs can achieve very fast computation in online applications of large-scale power systems.  相似文献

It is hard to define a single set of ethics that will cover an entire computer users community. In this paper, the issue is addressed in reference to code of ethics implemented by various professionals, institutes and organizations. The paper presents a higher level model using hierarchical approach. The code developed using this approach could be adopted easily by the entire community of computer users working in different environments. The hierarchical approach allows refinement and customization of code at lower levels to address the needs of diverse sub groups of users. It also provides comfort of flexibility as well as the potential for evolution. The work reported here is in continuation of the research reported in an earlier paper (Wyne,2009).  相似文献

A cluster analyzing algorithm based on grids is introduced in this paper,which is applied to data mining in the city emergency system. In the previous applications, data mining was based on the method of analyzing points and lines, which was not efficient enough in dealing with the geographic information in units of police areas. The proposed algorithm maps an event set stored as a point set to a grid unit set, utilizes the cluster algorithm based on grids to find out all the clusters, and shows the results in the method of visualization. The algorithm performs well when dealing with high dimensional data sets and immense data. It is suitable for the data mining based on geographic information system and is supportive to decision-makings in the city emergency system.  相似文献

It is difficult to study the mean value properties of the higher-Kloosterman sums S(m,n,q;k) for any positive integer k.In this paper,the fourth power mean of this exponential sums is studied by combining congruence theorey with the analytic method,and an interesting asymptotic formula for it is obtained.The new result is an important generalization and improvement of the previous.  相似文献

This paper presents a distribution free method for predicting the extreme wind velocity from wind monitoring data at the site of the Runyang Suspension Bridge (RSB), China using the maximum entropy theory. The maximum entropy theory is a rational approach for choosing the most unbiased probability distribution from a small sample, which is consistent with available data and contains a minimum of spurious information. In this paper, the theory is used for estimating a joint probability density function considering the combined action of wind speed and direction based on statistical analysis of wind monitoring data at the site of the RSB. The joint probability distribution model is further used to estimate the extreme wind velocity at the deck level of the RSB. The results of the analysis reveal that the probability density function of the maximum entropy method achieves a result that fits well with the monitoring data. Hypothesis testing shows that the distributions of the wind velocity data collected during the past three years do not obey the Gumbel distribution. Finally, our comparison shows that the wind predictions of the maximum entropy method are higher than that of the Gumbel distribution, but much lower than the design wind speed.  相似文献

根据前人研究成果结合学校实际,建立了大学生信息素养评价体系,该体系分为四个一级指标、九个二级指标、二十个三级指标。体系建立后,采用层次分析法进行了权重的确定。文章在对各指标的权重确定时,考虑到评价的主体(教师、辅导员)和客体(学生),在确定权重时综合主体和客体的权重,加权求平均值,获得最后该研究体系的最终权重,这个结果相对公平和科学。最后,通过三层模糊评判,对随机选择的数据进行校验,证明了该评价体系的科学性。  相似文献

日志是计算机取证、入侵检测分析的重要数据来源,运用关联规则挖掘算法对日志进行分析是获取日志中所蕴含有用信息的重要方法,针对基于置信度-支持度框架的常用关联规则挖掘算法在日志分析中存在的不足,引入日志关键属性的概念,提出了基于关键属性约束的关联规则挖掘算法。实验结果表明,该算法能有效阻止无趣规则的产生,提高挖掘结果的有效性。  相似文献

针对遥感图像波段选择传统手工方法的不足,应用粗糙集理论,从纹理分析的多个角度选择特征,多方面挖掘数据的关键属性;通过核属性时方法计算达到简化决策表中的条件属性的目的,得到图像分类的关键波段和一些次关键波段;实现了波段的自动选择.该算法比传统方法更客观更简便,为遥感图像波段选择提供了崭新的方法.  相似文献

Teacher professional learning is widely accepted as a mediating factor for enhancing student outcomes. While many teachers across the world engage in professional development (PD) to enhance their professional learning, what is less evident is how to support that learning to result in change following teacher PD. Acknowledging that not all teacher PD needs to result in new practices and change, this paper focuses on a transformative model of PD, focused on implementing and sustaining change. This paper offers evidence of successful implementation and sustainability of practices by drawing from in-depth semi-structured interviews with teachers and principals in five Irish case study schools. It reports on the Systemic Factors to support implementation and sustainability of change: Support, Initiative design and Impact and Teacher Agency. Implications are drawn for bridging the gap between knowledge and practice or teacher PD and change within schools.  相似文献

In recent times, Australia has recognised and enacted a range of initiatives at service, system and community levels that seek to embed sustainability into the early childhood sector. This paper explores the impact of a professional development (PD) session that provided opportunities for early childhood educators to learn and share ideas about the theory and practice of sustainability generally and early childhood education for sustainability (ECEfS) specifically. The PD was entitled ‘Living and Learning about Sustainability in the Early Years’ and was offered on three occasions across Tasmania. A total of 99 participants attended the three PD sessions (one 5 hour; two 2 hour). The participants had varying levels of experience and included early childhood teachers, centre based educators and preservice teachers. At the start and end of the PD, participants were invited to complete a questionnaire that contained a series of likert scale questions that explored their content knowledge, level of understanding and confidence in regards to ECEfS. Participants were also asked at the start and end of the PD to ‘list five words you think of when you consider the word sustainability.’ A model of teacher professional growth was used to conceptualise the results related to the changes in knowledge, understanding and confidence (personal domain) as a result of the PD related to ECEfS (external domain). The likert-scale questions on the questionnaire revealed significant positive changes in levels of knowledge, understanding and confidence from the start to the end of the PD. Differences as a function of length of PD, level of experience and role are presented and discussed. The ‘5 words’ question showed that participants widened their understandings of ECEfS from a narrow environmental focus to a broader understanding of the social, political and economic dimensions. The early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector has been characterised as having a pedagogical advantage for EfS suggesting that early childhood educators are well placed to engage with EfS more readily than might educators in other education sectors. This article argues that PD is necessary to develop capability in educators in order to meet the imperatives around sustainability outlined in educational policy and curriculum documents in ECEC.  相似文献

为了提高超点检测的精度并控制测量资源的使用,提出了一种基于抽样和数据流算法的超点检测方法.该方法通过抽样从概率上保证发送或接收大量流的节点能被检测,同时采用数据流技术建立了IP table和流BF(BF)两个数据结构.其中IP table结构用于判断IP是否已经被创建,如果已经被创建,则将属于该IP的所有后续的流记录在流BF结构中:如果IP table结构中不存在该IP记录,则对属于该IP的流进行抽样.对提出方法的精度和内存需求从理论上进行了分析,并采用CERNET数据进行验证.理论分析和实验测试表明,提出的超点检测算法的测量误差基本控制在5%以内,而其他算法的误差在10%左右.另外,由于使用BF数据结构,提出的算法在使用空间上也优于其他算法.  相似文献

Professional development for early childhood educators (ECE PD) is an essential component of supporting a professional early childhood workforce. Yet research on ECE PD frequently centers on narrow fidelity data, while teachers’ individual voices and teaching contexts are only rarely considered in order to understand teacher experiences with PD initiatives. This qualitative case study utilizes the critical ecology of the early childhood profession framework (Miller et al., Early childhood grows up: Towards a critical ecology of the profession, Springer, London) to examine process-related questions in a large urban district’s PD initiative connected with the launch of a new district-developed kindergarten curriculum. Examining teacher experiences through an ecological lens, the study focuses on two kindergarten teachers, viewing them as active agents in their own professional learning and situating them within their particular teaching contexts. Data sources included classroom observations, teacher interviews, and curriculum fidelity data. Although fidelity data provided some information about teacher responses to the PD, triangulating this data with teacher accounts of adapting the curriculum to their particular context enabled more nuanced understandings about how teachers adapt information from PD sessions to their particular teaching contexts. This study demonstrates the need for research on ECE PD to go beyond fidelity data to explore process-related questions about teachers PD experiences.  相似文献
