Abstract The context of rural Alaska provides many challenges for the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in the delivery of education via distance technologies. Audioconference courses have been and continue to be the backbone of the University's distance delivery system. This paper discusses the potential of a FirstClass® Server using telecommunications, e‐mail, student‐to‐student interaction, submission of assignments, timely instructor feedback, and the transfer of files and multimedia documents in an asynchronous manner. Survey data were collected from students who received instruction using this system, as well as the traditional audioconference delivery method. Analysis of the data indicated some positive aspects of the FirstClass system that enhance the distance‐delivered instruction. 相似文献

该对澳大利亚远程教育进行印象透析：澳大利亚远程教育的办学模式是双重模式，即传统校园教育与现代远程教育由同一母体的一所大学来运作。由于母体相同，其教学要求相同，进而考试要求相同，毕业时的凭、学位也相同。又由于母体相同，其所获得的经济支撑也大体相同，具体表现为把远程教育学生按学时折算成全日制(Full-time)学生，政府同样拨款；而且除管理费外，收费标准基本上一样。以同一所大学为母体，以同等教学要求和经济支撑为两翼，所以，澳大利亚的远程教育才得以稳步前行。 相似文献

Meta-analysis provides a method of quantitatively summarizing and comparing empirical literature to reduce Type I and Type II error. The meta-analysis described here indicates a slight student preference for a traditional educational format over a distance education format (average r = .031, after the deletion of outliers), and little difference in satisfaction levels. A comparison of distance education methods that include direct interactive links with those that do not include interactive links demonstrates no difference in satisfaction levels. However, student satisfaction levels diminish as additional information is added to the available channel of instruction (e.g., written to audio to video). The findings support those of researchers arguing that distance education does not diminish the level of student satisfaction when compared to traditional face-to-face methods of instruction. 相似文献

Field independent students are generally expected to perform better academically than those who are field dependent, and this is particularly marked in distance learning where students learn without the traditional support offered in conventional instruction. In this paper two studies of the relationship between field dependence and academic learning in the context of distance learning are reported with Bachelor of Health nursing students in Hong Kong. In both studies field independent nurses performed significantly better than field dependent ones. Some implications of these findings for distance learning are discussed. 相似文献

A comprehensive meta-analysis of the research following Glass, McGraw, and Smith's (1981) technique integrated findings from twenty-five comparative studies from 1990 to 2003 targeting student achievement and distance education in allied health professions. Student achievement was assessed through course grades and resulted in an overall effect size of 0.15, a very small positive effect for distance learners when compared to traditional students. Several dependent variables—education levels, models of distance education, and instructional design components—related to the effect size. In the distance education setting, working professional students significantly outperformed graduate and undergraduate students. Open learning and synchronous instruction were the most effective distance education models of instruction. Instructional design components implemented into a distance education course resulted in greater student achievement scores. 相似文献
