Academic libraries are spending considerable time and study on redesigning spaces. The use of technology is often an important part of these redesigned spaces. The space redesign goals at F.D. Bluford Library focus on creating open, activity-promoting, colorful spaces that are designed to be attractive to students. The goals also focus on implementing hybrid spaces that allow students to work alone or in groups, with support for mobile technologies like laptops or tablets. The space redesign goals focus on upgrading the quality of desktops available but reducing the number of desktops. This study examines the question “Does our library renovation significantly change computer use in the redesigned area?” Key findings include that, in defiance of expectations, there is no significant decrease in desktop usage despite the decreased number of computers. However, findings show there is a significant difference in tablet use, despite tablet-friendly spaces and charging options. Surprisingly, our students use fewer tablets. Laptop usage shows no significant difference. In summary, our research shows desktop computing—especially high-quality desktop computing—appears to still have a role in academic libraries even in the mobile technology age.  相似文献

In this study, researchers observed student study behaviors in the libraries of four post-secondary institutions. In all, 2,773 observations were made. This research replicates and expands an earlier study and addresses its limitations. The results of a logistic regression test indicate whether students had a mobile device readily available and where students chose to study in the library best predicted whether they demonstrated a study, as opposed to a non-study, behavior. Specifically, if students were found in quiet study or computer areas, they were more likely to be performing study behaviors. This research has implications for library stakeholders making decisions about the use of library space. Most importantly, this research demonstrates that library spaces are widely used for diverse purposes.  相似文献

[目的/意义]通过对国内移动图书馆用户研究成果的综述,分析讨论移动图书馆用户研究取得的成就和存在的问题,并提出未来的研究思路和内容。[方法/过程]采用文献计量法对国内移动图书馆用户的研究成果进行评述,侧重主题内容的分析。[结果/结论]当前国内移动图书馆用户研究主要集中在用户需求、用户体验、用户采纳3个方面,未来应促进不同研究者之间的合作,形成稳定的研究团队,构建定性与定量相结合的方法体系,开拓用户满意度、用户认知、移动图书馆成效评估等新的研究领域。  相似文献

[目的/意义]总结国内外移动图书馆用户行为的研究现状,为我国移动图书馆用户行为的理论研究和实践工作提供参考。[方法/过程]依据用户生命周期理论将移动图书馆用户行为划分为认知、采纳接受、持续使用三个阶段。从文献数量分布、行为主体、行为影响因素、理论与模型应用、研究结论等方面,采用定量和定性相结合的方法,对国内外移动图书馆用户行为研究的文献进行梳理和分析。[结果/结论]提出未来研究建议:应综合多种理论模型构建符合移动图书馆特定情境的理论模型;应采用多元化研究方法,重视质性研究在分析用户的感官体验、认知体验、服务体验、情感体验等方面的重要性,以获得定性的事实依据;应加强移动图书馆可持续化研究,重视用户持续使用的内容分析,挖掘用户行为动态发展的规律、影响因素及作用机理,以发现和改进移动图书馆在发展和建设中的不足,提高移动图书馆的服务质量。  相似文献

Health sciences libraries are often challenged to make decisions regarding physical space allocation without quantitative data to support specific user preferences. This multisite, longitudinal study sought to answer the following questions related to academic health sciences libraries: (1) Which library spaces are popular with health sciences patrons? (2) How does time of day and allocated seating space affect patron choices? (3) What similarities and differences occur in space usage across four different health sciences libraries? Results suggest health sciences libraries must develop a nuanced understanding of their patrons’ preferences to best serve patrons’ needs regarding space allocation. Libraries can benefit from these types of methodological studies that target specific populations, supporting more informed space allocation decision making.  相似文献

Colleges increasingly are recognized as student workplaces, inspiring campus leaders to create healthier campus environments. Yet challenging this vision is burgeoning research regarding the health risks of sedentary behavior, an under-studied college health concern that implies deleterious health outcomes and, by extension, academic impediments as well.Can movement be incorporated into academic activities such as studying or reading? This question—particularly relevant to libraries due to their increasing use as study spaces—requires the expansion of standard methods of evaluating student health needs and behaviors. We propose Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) methods as a novel way to investigate sedentary behaviors in a campus library and identify designs and practices to help promote movement.In 2012 and 2013, as part of an undergraduate architecture class, we conducted two POEs of Berkeley's newest library to learn how the space is used and, inspired by new research about the perils of sedentary behavior, we also considered how the library could be used. Through our findings we confirmed the changing role of campus libraries as study spaces, observed social and built environment contexts of sedentary behaviors in library settings, and identified possible interventions to introduce postural variation and physical activity into observed patterns of library use.  相似文献

本文对移动图书馆的概念进行了界定,以技术接受模式为理论基础,识别了感知有用性、感知易用性、感知成本、使用态度、使用行为意向5个变量,进而提出感知有用性、感知易用性、感知成本、使用态度、使用行为意向变量间相互影响关系的假设,最终形成高校学生对移动图书馆使用行为意向的影响因素概念模型。在对武汉市高校学生问卷调研的基础上,通过结构方程模型分析,结果表明,感知有用性对使用行为意向具有显著的正向影响关系,同时感知有用性还分别对使用态度具有显著的正向影响关系。感知易用性对感知有用性有正向显著影响关系,感知成本对使用态度有显著负向影响,使用态度对使用行为意向有显著正向影响。因此,为了顺利实现移动图书馆的推广需要注重其有用性和易用性,最大限度降低其感知成本。  相似文献

[目的/意义]利用用户画像的构建方法,探究并呈现高校移动图书馆用户群体的差异化行为特征,有利于图书馆更为精准地知晓潜在的用户需求和实际使用行为,对于改进图书馆服务营销策略具有重要的参考意义。[方法/过程]总结用户画像在图书馆的实践现状,提出基于移动图书馆特定情境下构建其用户画像标签体系,借鉴VALS 2用户细分的态度量表从使用心理偏好入手重构标签描述体系。以标签体系设计问卷并调研高校移动图书馆用户的人口统计属性、使用行为和使用心理偏好等变量,利用因子分析、聚类分析和判别分析法选取适宜的用户画像个数。借助R语言wordcloud2软件包可视化展示不同用户画像的特征标签云,针对每个画像,结合人口统计属性、使用行为和特征标签展开描述与讨论。[结果/结论]提出一种构建特定业务情境下用户画像的分析方法,为高校移动图书馆提升精准用户定位和开展差异化服务提供实证研究参考。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 对比用户在使用WAP和APP这两种方式访问移动图书馆时的检索行为,为移动图书馆的服务创新提供参考。[方法/过程] 通过对某高校图书馆OPAC系统移动端日志数据进行统计分析,从搜索会话、查询式、高频关键词以及检索方式等方面展开研究。[结果/结论] 发现用户更多地是使用WAP访问移动图书馆,相比之下,在使用APP访问移动图书馆时,用户更倾向于在短时间内进行较少的查询来结束搜索会话;使用这两种方式查询的高频关键词所属领域有很大的相似性,中文检索多集中在数学、管理学、经济学、社会学等领域;简单检索是用户访问移动图书馆时使用的主要检索方式,通过WAP访问的用户选择其他检索方式的比率要大于通过APP访问的用户。  相似文献

This article is a response to the excellent “Using Mobile Technology to Observe Student Study Behaviors and Track Library Space Usage” by Susan Thompson. Thompson reviews the literature regarding user counts on mobile devices and describes the California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Library's evaluation of SUMA, Counter+, and CloudOn. After trialing these mobile technologies, CSUSM selected CloudOn. At New York University Abu Dhabi, we use Google Forms to conduct user counts on an iPad and Google Sheets to evaluate these data. We find that Google Forms are easy to set up, modify as necessary, and present the data in easy-to-manipulate spreadsheets.  相似文献

��[Purpose/significance] The demand for readers to access library information services through the mobile has become increasingly prominent, but the development of mobile library service models has fallen into problems such as single development form, lack of humanistic features, and poor service results. Through case study and analysis, this paper seeks for the construction and development strategy of mobile library service mode in colleges and universities, and provides important reference for the construction of mobile library service.[Method/process] Taking 42 "double first-rate" universities' mobile libraries as the research object, and using the method of network, literature research and case analysis. Studying the current status and development strategies of APP service, mobile webpage and WeChat platform.[Result/conclusion] The research found that both APP and mobile webpage use the fixed templates generally. The content and function homogenization phenomenon is serious, which lead to poor user experience. The management of WeChat Official Accounts is unevenness of quality, and the penetration rate of Mini Program is not high. Focus on some part of mobile library, instead of providing all services. Develop WeChat library and perfect service promotion. These will become the important measures to improve the mobile library services.  相似文献

A library in higher education plays a primary role in students' learning on campus. In addition to individually-focused studying, students come to a library for various purposes, such as group learning, collaborating, and socializing. To support students' different types of learning, appropriate physical and functional environments of the spaces must be provided. However, the environmental effects of learning spaces have not been explored extensively. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced students to remain and study at home for extended periods, and it is expected that the pandemic experience has affected students' space use patterns. This study aims to examine the effect of the pandemic on students' library usage and to investigate the necessary environments to effectively support students' learning activities. Data was collected via interviews with 12 students. One of the main findings is that, even though students used the library less during the pandemic, they expected to use it as much as pre-pandemic or even more after the pandemic. Furthermore, both physical and functional environments were associated with the study performance and wellbeing of the students. Therefore, understanding students' learning activities and preferred environments in a library is critical to providing appropriate spaces supporting students' learning performance and wellbeing.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 针对已有移动图书馆高校用户接受行为影响因素实证研究结果之间的不一致问题,对该领域相关实证研究加以梳理和再分析。以明确影响移动图书馆高校用户接受行为一般性因素在程度和方向上的差异。[方法/过程] 利用元分析方法,通过系统收集与移动图书馆高校用户接受行为相关的实证研究文献,梳理和识别影响移动图书馆高校用户接受行为的关键因素。从移动图书馆的知识内容特征、技术媒介特征、用户个体特征和接受情境特征等4个维度构建移动图书馆高校用户接受行为因素模型。[结果/结论] 研究发现影响我国移动图书馆高校用户接受行为的主要因素为:感知有用性、任务-技术匹配、感知质量、感知易用性、便利条件、个体创新、自我效能、社会影响、主观规范和感知成本等10个因素。其中,感知成本和任务-技术匹配对移动图书馆高校用户接受行为的影响不显著,个体创新和自我效能对移动图书馆高校用户接受行为的影响最大,感知易用性和感知有用性是影响移动图书馆高校用户接受行为最显著的变量。  相似文献

Habitual wayfinding is a revised wayfinding model for academic libraries, where there is a high percentage of repeat users. Using the unique spatial characteristics of a specific academic library, this study explores the wayfinding patterns of repeat users and evaluates the impact of patrons' travel habits on their library space usage. The GIS tool ArcMap is employed to visualize library traffic and detect potential patterns of habitual wayfinding. The impact of habitual wayfinding behaviors on library space usage is analyzed. Findings suggest that travel habits formed through past frequent actions can lead to consistent navigation preferences toward certain function units and significant usage differences even within the same function unit in a library. In addition to proposing this modified wayfinding framework and studying its relevance in explaining library space usage patterns, this study also makes a methodological contribution through a novel approach of detecting potential traffic patterns by visualizing routing data and quantifying its details at the route segment level. The framework, methodology, and findings have important implications for understanding space use in academic libraries and can be valuable to libraries considering conducting space evaluation and space rearrangement projects.  相似文献

The incorporation of participant-generated photography in research can be a powerful means of studying participants' perspectives and experiences. Approaches such as photovoice and photo-elicitation that incorporate participant-generated photography are increasingly being used in library and information science to study topics such as information needs, information seeking, and use of library space. This article describes two recent studies that used mobile apps (PixStori and EthOS) to facilitate participant-generated photography and photo-elicitation processes in research exploring the information practices of children and young adults, including the affordances, challenges and practical considerations identified by the researchers. Affordances of these apps within a research context include recordability, immediacy, portability, visibility, and durability. Challenges and practical considerations in using these apps in research settings include data security and storage, device failures, app failures, user instruction, cost, and ethical considerations.
