Past innovation research has largely neglected potential effects of corporate governance issues on strategic choices, and thereby on innovation management outcomes. The theory of upper echelon implies that strategic choices result from idiosyncrasies of top management teams (TMT). Building on this theory, we hypothesize that TMT diversity enhances firm performance by facilitating an innovation strategy that increases the firm's new product portfolio innovativeness. Our findings support the relevance of considering a corporate governance view for explaining innovation outcomes. Empirically, we can show that TMT diversity has a strong impact on the strategic choice of firms to focus on innovation fields. Such focus then drives new product portfolio innovativeness and firm performance. As corporate governance arrangements thus seem relevant in the context of innovation management, we can derive implications for both policy makers and innovation researchers.  相似文献

Antecedents of corporate spin-offs in Spain: A resource-based approach   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We explore the antecedents of corporate spin-offs for a sample of 3462 Spanish firms between 1992 and 2002. Using a resource-based approach, we identify three reasons firms engage in spin-offs: (a) to create complementarities, (b) to appropriate residual rents, and (c) to focus on the core business. Specifically, we find that spin-offs are more common among firms that belong to a group able to create networks and new knowledge that can be exploited through spin-offs. In addition, we find that spin-offs are more frequent in firms that wish to exploit strategic advantages achieved through knowledge investments and in firms that increase efforts to the focus on the parent firm's core competences.  相似文献

Knowledge has become the main competitive tool for firms. Just as knowledge is considered as the most important strategic resource, knowledge management (KM) is considered to be critical to a firm’s success. Several attempts have been undertaken to identify and define the different KM processes. From the literature review, four key dimensions stand out as affecting KM processes: knowledge creation, knowledge transfer, knowledge storage/retrieval, and knowledge application. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the KM and value literature by determining the importance of the different processes of KM for increasing value creation and value capture in firms. The context for the research hypotheses is the Spanish banking industry in 2010. The results support a positive relationship between KM and value creation, and between value creation and value capture.  相似文献

Patent trolls (or sharks) are patent holding individuals or (often small) firms who trap R&D intensive manufacturers in patent infringement situations in order to receive damage awards for the illegitimate use of their technology. While of great concern to management, their existence and impact for both corporate decision makers and policy makers remains to be fully analyzed from an academic standpoint. In this paper we show why patent sharks can operate profitably, why they are of growing concern, how manufacturers can forearm themselves against them, and which issues policy makers need to address. To do so, we map international indemnification rules with strategic rationales of small patent-holding firms and large manufacturers within a theoretical model. Our central finding is that the courts’ unrealistic consideration of the trade-offs faced by inadvertent infringers is a central condition for sharks to operate profitably.  相似文献

A well-developed and aligned knowledge management (KM) strategy and active top management participation are two of the key strategic issues in KM. The studies on KM strategy and the role of top management have mainly focused on big firms. The basic requirements and resources of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are different from big firms. Consequently, KM practices are different in SMEs as compared to big firms, and a thorough study of various aspects of KM for SMEs is needed. This research work is an attempt to study strategic issues in KM in SMEs in India, with particular reference to the automotive component sector. Customer-focused knowledge is the most common KM strategy among Indian automotive component manufacturers. Top management is more active and supportive in KM initiatives in international auto component manufacturers. Indian SMEs need to focus more on the strategic issues in KM for reaping the benefits of KM for sustainable competitiveness.  相似文献

Managers frequently find themselves involved with problems in which decisions are difficult to reach due to the complexity of the problems or the number of factors involved. Furthermore, many such problems, particularly those dealing with strategic management issues, are problems in which there is no one “right” answer. This paper examines the development of expert systems in the strategic planning area by focusing on the strategic option of corporate divestment. This option is receiving increasing attention from managers; however, managers find it difficult to adequately integrate all factors that must be considered when reaching a decision. Further, there are relatively few “experts” available to firms considering such a move. Thus, this research proposes and describes the creation and development of an expert system to be applied to the general area of strategic management while using the divestment option as an example. The basic development concept could serve as a model for other uses of expert systems in the strategic planning field.  相似文献

This project examines how Australian high technology companies approach the synergy between corporate R&D and strategic management. Research hypotheses are tested empirically using the data collected from a number of Australian firms in three selected industrial sectors: information technology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The results suggest that the responding firms have been aware of the importance of integrating R&D decision making with corporate strategic management as well as the consistency between R&D and competitive strategies. In particular, the development of higher value-added products with a focus on a particular market segment has been stressed in directing corporate R&D programs and projects.  相似文献

通过对257家新兴企业中高层管理者和研发人员的调查数据,本文研究了员工信息素养对外部知识效应的影响,重点分析了员工信息素养对外部知识获取与内部创新能力之间关系的调节效应,并运用模糊集定性比较分析(fsQCA)技术探讨了企业规模对员工信息素养的制约效应。结果表明:员工信息素养对技术知识和市场知识的吸收效果均有促进作用;此外,企业规模越大,员工信息素养对技术知识与创新能力之间关系的促进作用越小。本研究结论不仅丰富了员工素养与企业创新等领域的理论空间,同时也为战略性新兴产业企业在开放式创新环境下有效提高员工信息素养、增强外部知识吸收、提升创新能力和创新绩效提供了实践指导。  相似文献

绿色创新是企业实现可持续发展的新型路径,同时也是企业在遵从环境规制的压力中塑造战略性优势的必然要求。传统研究聚焦于企业绿色创新的合规性,但忽略了合规性绿色创新与战略性绿色创新的和谐统一。据此,本文基于最优区分理论,以我国2013年~2017年上市公司为样本,将绿色创新分为合规性绿色创新和战略性绿色创新两个维度,旨在探究绿色创新两个维度对企业绿色形象的影响机制研究。研究结果发现:① 合规性绿色创新和战略性绿色创新均对企业绿色形象具有显著的正向影响,但战略性绿色创新相比合规性绿色创新更能提升企业绿色形象;② 环境伦理文化正向调节合规性绿色创新/战略性绿色创新与绿色形象的关系;③ 政治关联正向调节合规性绿色创新与绿色形象之间的关系;但未能显著调节战略性绿色创新与绿色形象之间的关系。本文拓展了绿色创新研究范畴,深化了绿色创新对绿色形象的作用机制研究,同时对引导中国企业积极落实绿色发展具有重要的推动作用。  相似文献

在对长三角地区136家企业战略人力资源管理、公司创业和组织绩效等变量数据调研的基础上,应用结构方程模型研究表明:企业战略人力资源管理实践对公司创业战略的设计和执行有着显著的促进作用,公司创业对组织绩效也有着积极的影响.这个结论表明,企业应当实施适当的SHRM实践在公司内部营造创新氛围、激励雇员承担更多的风险和实施积极"主动"的市场、研发等战略,促进公司内部创业战略的设计和执行,构建企业长期竞争优势.  相似文献

虽然大量研究都发现战略人力资源管理可以提高企业绩效,为企业带来竞争优势,但目前对战略人力资源管理和企业新产品开发绩效之间关系和影响机制的研究十分缺乏。本文以中国制造业企业的151组CEO-人力资源经理配对数据为样本,实证分析了战略人力资源管理措施对新产品开发绩效的影响及其作用机理。基于资源基础论的观点(Resource-based View),研究结果表明:战略人力资源管理对新产品开发绩效具有显著的正向影响;公司创业在战略人力资源管理和新产品开发绩效的关系中起着中介作用;创业导向正向调节战略人力资源管理与公司创业之间的关系。本文从理论上丰富了战略人力资源管理和新产品开发绩效的关系研究,实践上对企业提高新产品开发绩效具有重要的启示作用。  相似文献

Evidence suggests that some factors can determine the successful implementation of strategic IT systems, i.e. Business Intelligence (BI). Although BI systems can provide companies with insights into their business operations they are painstakingly difficult to implement. Most frequently, employee resistance and change management related issues have been identified as the main causes of system implementation failure. This is particularly true for Chinese firms, where cultural nuances such as personalism and particularism serve as powerful barriers to ‘intelligence’ sharing. In this case study, we report how Chinese CEOs can overpower these restraining forces to facilitate implementation success. Preliminary evidence from our case firm suggests that a strong, committed and adaptive leadership style provides a basis for effective BI exploitation. Further, we also identify some strategic and tactical actions that Chinese CEOs can use to foster a knowledge sharing culture that is conducive to BI systems implementation.  相似文献

本文基于431家长三角制造业企业问卷数据,运用多元线性回归,探究TMT异质性对企业协同创新绩效的影响机理。研究结果表明:TMT异质性不仅对协同创新具有直接影响,还通过战略导向和协同学习的中介效应产生间接影响;TMT异质性有助于企业制定战略导向,促进企业进行高效的协同学习;环境动态性对战略导向、协同学习与协同创新绩效的调节效应显著。由此,企业应构建异质性的TMT,以提升其协同创新能力。  相似文献

当前后发企业的技术寻求型的跨国并购发展迅速,然而并后成功实现整合并获得技术升级的企业并不多见,一直以来是困扰后发跨国企业的一大难题。本研究在二次创新理论的基础上构建了全球化进程中的动态演化模型,试图通过组织学习与组织合法性两个维度,解释后发跨国企业如何在跨国并购过程中实现技术能力的积累与提升。通过追踪研究中国民营车企吉利集团十余年内多次跨国并购行为,我们发现:吉利集团凭借三次螺旋上升的互补资产寻求型跨国并购,利用组织内外部合法性的杠杆效应,确保了并购后组织学习的有效性,正是通过这种全球二次创新的动态演进模式,吉利集团成功实现了后发者的追赶。  相似文献

In a thirty-year period, firms in the high-end computer industry compete for technological leadership with select subgroups of firms. A clustering technique is used to identify these subgroups of firms. In each of the three such ‘races’ that I identify, a firm's racing rivals influence the evolution of its own technology frontier. This approach complements life-cycle and other models of technological evolution. A central role is assigned to strategic interactions between firms. Different kinds of strategic interactions lead to intra-race and inter-race behavior. I demonstrate how such inter-firm interactions map into technological evolution at the industry level and suggest that the patterns seen here can help us understand technological evolution in a range of environments.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to research firms’ knowledge management practices within the context of networked innovation between multiple actors. The analysis is based on case research carried out with six companies. Based on earlier literature and the theoretical framework of the paper, two models of networked innovation can be distinguished according to knowledge management needs: networks focusing on the transaction of explicit knowledge and intellectual property, and networks focusing on the co-creation of new knowledge and business opportunities. The paper argues that a strategic approach to knowledge management is a key element of success within networked innovation, both in the theory and in the practices of firms. In that way, firms are able to manage knowledge within networked innovation when they understand their partners’ business models and strategic intents, for example their motivation to collaborate.  相似文献

与传统跨国公司不同,新兴经济企业主要采用跨国收购的海外进入模式。最近的跨国收购综述(SHVP)并没有反映这一点。本综述旨在更新SHVP的综述,特别关注发达国家和新兴经济情境的比较。本文将综述的主题限定于价值创造和整合战略。综述表明:对于价值创造支脉,相对于经济金融领域的研究,行为理论和战略管理领域的研究更能突出新兴经济企业跨国收购的独特性。此外,经验研究发现的不一致反映了理论及其边界的不明确以及研究方法的局限。对于整合战略支脉,相对于一般收购的整合研究,新兴经济企业跨国收购整合战略的经验研究非常有限。这些结论构成了研究中国企业跨国收购的重要跳板。基于此,我们发展了一个基于研究情境、理论范式、研究支脉、研究议程和研究方法的跨国收购研究理论框架,并提出未来非常有潜力的研究方向。  相似文献
