Summary Information from government sources is being added to the Internet at an ever-increasing rate. Catalogers at Penn State are working with AACR2, OCLC's Internet Cataloging Project (Inter-cat), and the creators of the Penn State Libraries' World Wide Web Home Page to include both Internet sites and electronic publications in the library's online catalog. The use of cataloging records to show relationships between Internet resources and the printed materials that they supplement or replace is demonstrated. 相似文献

Summary The published literature specific to electronic serials cataloging over the decade of the 1990s and the work of CONSER, MARBI, the ALCTS Committee to Study Serials Cataloging, and others were reviewed to identify issues and developments. The proliferation and the changing nature of e-serials were challenges to catalogers throughout the period examined. Policies and procedures were offered by CONSER and its members. Multiple versions, revising AACR2, metadata, and aggregator databases were among the issues actively discussed at the close of the decade. 相似文献

Using the manual prepared by Steven J. Miller (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries) in 2003, and revised February 2005, the instructor updated some parts of the course as necessary for this workshop. The workshop was taught in two days and divided into six sessions. Day one covered core sessions (sections 1–3: Introduction, Original Cataloging, and Updating Integrating Resources Records), and day two covered optional sessions (sections 4–6: Copy Cataloging, Record Modification and Maintenance, Case Studies, Updating Loose-leafs). Emphasis was on electronic integrating resources as they present more challenges, and catalogers are more familiar with updating loose-leafs. Session 7, Selection of Online Resources and Options for Providing Access, was omitted due to time constraints and its lesser relevance. This report highlights some of the most important new rules and codes for cataloging integrating resources. 相似文献

The cataloging of music sound recordings is both challenging and interesting. As the technologies used to produce sound recordings change, these changes must be reflected in both cataloging theory and practice. Three formats: analog disc, cassette tape, and compact disk, all of which are readily available on the market, present special challenges to catalogers who must consider what might be the most effective way of handling these materials following the AACR2 cataloging rules and interpretations from Library of Congress. This paper examines the actual cataloging of those formats as done by several institutions and raises questions such as how to handle these materials in ways which will eliminate redundancy and increase efficiency in the practice of cataloging. Finally, an alternative approach, drawing on AACR2 practice in other areas, is suggested. 相似文献

This preconference was a presentation of the Electronic Serials Cataloging Workshop created by the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP). The workshop assumed a general knowledge of print serials cataloging and focused on issues specific to cataloging electronic serials.
