随着计算机技术的普及应用,研究生学位论文几乎全部采用计算机录入、排版和打印,由此产生了大量的"原生"电子文本,文章探讨了高校图书馆如何管理这些学位论文:借鉴一些知名大学图书馆对学位论文的处理办法,建立电子学位论文提交系统和论文全文服务系统,积极参与CALIS高校学位论文全文数据库的建设.  相似文献

中国学位论文收集与服务系统建设是国家学位论文资源保障体系的主体框架和初级阶段,是整合国内学位论文资源、实现开放共享和联合服务的具体行动,其构建建立在多部门、多个系统协同合作的基础上.文章通过问卷调查、实地调研等方法,对我国国家层面学位论文管理和服务现状进行系统分析,以此为基础,提出了中国学位论文收集与服务系统建设目标和总体框架,阐述了学位论文共享管理体系的构建措施,分析了学位论文元数据集中共享的技术路线、全文分布服务实现的技术方案及其具体建设措施.最后对学位论文收集与服务体系下一步的发展路线和服务推进进行了展望.  相似文献

电子博硕学位论文建设是学位论文开放获取实践的基础,也是机构知识库建设的一个特例分支,国家级的公益性服务体系建设及OA实践在我国内地尚未有效起步,相关研究也缺少系统性。本文以IR可持续发展理论为指导,结合国内外先进经验,指出推动我国学位论文OA实践的关键在于组织引导和机制变革,应建立自上而下的、以OA为宗旨的权威集成服务体系和配套制度体系,包括驱动机制、授权机制和保障机制,保持电子博硕学位论文服务体系建设与主客观环境的协调发展。为此,提出“三大策略+三大机制”的实践框架和实施建议。  相似文献

This work takes advantage of the current status of the development of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) at the University of Louisville to reexamine a previous study that compared ETD and non-ETD producing authors' use of the professional literature. As with the previous study, this effort found no noticeable difference in the two groups of doctoral students' referencing behavior. This review of 100 dissertations and their 13,926 references confirmed the previous work's conclusions that doctoral students' publication format is not reflective of their library research. These findings suggest that librarians need not amend their efforts in response to academia's on-going development of ETDs and that differences between ETD and non-ETD authors are unrelated to their utilization of library resources.  相似文献

Given the thousands of theses and dissertations (TDs) that are produced each year, and their role in advancing their disciplines, it is well worth disseminating them as widely as possible. A great leap forward in increasing TD distribution has been the electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) movement. ETD information in catalogs provides valuable basic access, especially when bibliographic records are contributed to large databases. While these bibliographic records can be created automatically by harvesting author-supplied metadata from ETDs, for fuller access, cataloger mediation is needed to remove errors and numeric entities; plus name authority control. The National Agricultural Library's Aquaculture Information Center has developed an expert-system based Advisor for supporting reference-related inquiries. The system was created to help improve access to basic resource tools and information in aquaculture, one of the rapidly expanding disciplines within agriculture. System developmental stages are described, including the selection of software and determination of types of information to incorporate into the system. Data distribution is discussed in terms of user groups and feedback mechanisms. The basic expert advisory system was enhanced and linked to external programs, including bibliographic databases through remote access and CD-ROMs. Future projections include external linkage to full-text files and images on laser videodiscs and CD-ROMs. Cooperative updating is encouraged as a means to facilitate the universal role of libraries and information services to disseminate information.  相似文献

Electronic information formats such as optical media or multi-media used in colleges and universities present challenges for academic library policy makers. Some policy areas that should be considered for electronic and interactive formats are familiar and some are new. This paper describes areas of policy and decision points for services involving new and emerging formats such as hypermedia, interactive multi-media and full-text electronic files. Topics include: planning, staffing, collection development, security, access and services. From Jan.-April 1996, the University of Evansville Libraries compared the EBSCODOC and CARL UNCOVER document delivery services in the context of fulfilling article requests that were not completed using the OCLC/ILL subsystem as well as in providing “rush” service. Both services had comparative strengths and weaknesses. EBSCODOC's strength was its comprehensiveness; its weakness was speed of delivery. CARL UNCOVER's strength was the speed and reliability of delivery; its weakness was a 41% rate of fulfillment. Recommendations include further testing of full-text document suppliers in order to identify the best service or services to completely meet the needs of academic libraries.  相似文献

The development of services provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), which dates back to 1836, is described. MEDLINE, a database of 10-plus million references and abstracts to the world's biomedical literature, was put on the World Wide Web for free searching in 1997 as a system called PubMed, whose use has grown to over 250 million searches per year. PubMed features a variety of links between MEDLINE references and related information – full-text journal articles, DNA sequence data, medical knowledge bases, etc. – at websites within and outside NLM. PubMed is a major component of a larger NLM system, Entrez, which integrates access to a number of genome-related databases with linking features similar to those of PubMed. The newest linked service, which became a reality in February 2000, is PubMed Central, the National Institutes of Health's free repository for primary research reports in all the life sciences.  相似文献

Abstract

Online full-text research services such as Questia and Ebrary are targeting faculty and undergraduates directly, offering them library-like services for a fee. This has caused a great deal of negative response in the library community, because these companies seem to be trying to compete with and undercut freely available library services. However, rejecting them outright is probably not the best answer—if only because their marketing budgets dwarf our own. This presentation will explore the impacts these services could have on libraries, as well as the ways we might use them to extend our online collections and services. If we engage these companies in conversation, we could end up with cooperation and even partnerships. They may have an inevitable impact on libraries, but it is up to us to shape that impact by taking the initiative.  相似文献
