This article presents the results from a survey intended to determine how academic libraries in the United States manage and promote their state document collections. In November 1996, a six-part questionnaire (including general information; coordination of state documents; selection and acquisition of state documents; location of and access to state documents; use of state documents; and electronic access to state documents) was distributed to 350 academic libraries including one flagship institution in each state and 300 institutions randomly selected from the Higher Education Directory, 1996. Two hundred seventy-seven libraries responded to the questionnaire, for a return rate of 79.1 percent. The answers to the survey indicate that about 54 percent of the respondents participate in a state document depository program, and less than 50 percent have a designated librarian coordinating state documents. State documents are acquired either through purchases or through the depository program, are circulated and integrated with the general collections, classified in accordance with the Library of Congress classification system, and accessed through the library Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The librarians responding to the questionnaire perceived the use of state documents as limited. 相似文献

Rising cost and declining revenues have hampered the financial affairs of state governments, forcing many to curtail services, reduce employee benefits, and trim the workforce, calling into question the fiscal sustainability of many state governments. As a result, stakeholders are demanding greater accountability and increased transparency into state government finances. An important link or communication tool between state governments and stakeholders is the comprehensive annual financial report. The comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR), produced by state governments, provides some insight into how taxpayer dollars are spent and the benefits derived therefrom. This article analyzes the extent to which the states electronically archive the CAFR on their websites and the accessibility of the reports to users searching state government websites. 相似文献

As a part of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP), the Library of Congress (LC), partnering with the Center for Technology in Government (CTG), launched an effort in 2005 to integrate state governmental entities into the national network to preserve born-digital information that is both significant and at risk of loss. The main theme that emerged from the efforts of LC, CTG, and the state and federal digital preservation community was the importance of partnership efforts and collaborative strategies for the preservation of state government digital information. Based on the findings of the initiative, this paper discusses challenges and opportunities regarding interorganizational collaboration and community building for digital preservation of state government information. Following the community of practice framework, it is recommended that a “state government digital information preservation community” be developed to facilitate collaboration across agencies and knowledge professionals in state governments. 相似文献

针对国家和地方科技成果转化政策执行效率不同的问题,采用内容分析法,从政策结构、政策内容、政策目标、政策工具手段及政策实施效果方面分析国家和江苏省成果转化政策。结果表明,国家和地方科技成果转化政策在结构内容上相互对应,在战略目标确定、政策着力点及政策实施效果检查上有所区别。最后,对国家和地方相关政府部门进行科技成果政策制定实施提出参考建议。 相似文献

This study analyzes the state library job application forms of the 50 state libraries for compliance with the federal government Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's guidelines for pre-employment inquiries. The analysis revealed a small number of discrepancies compared to the total number of items checked, but over one-half of the states did not meet all the items on the checklist. Library administrators should periodically review their job application forms for compliance with federal and state laws with local equal employment opportunity specialists or their state civil rights commission. 相似文献

The author claims that neoliberal discourse plays “hide and seek” with the state, which appears at the same time absent and present, negated, and necessitated. In order to test its limits, the paper historicizes such discourse by engaging with the Italian case. More specifically, this study examines the most representative figure of Italian neoliberalism, former prime minister and media tycoon, Silvio Berlusconi, and his ambiguous relationship with the state. Drawing on Marx and Gramsci's conceptualization of the state, the paper sheds light on the Italian context as well as the more general characteristics of the neoliberal state. 相似文献
