Until relatively recently, the concept of information literacy, and teaching the skills to enable it, was mainly a concern of academic libraries. Now, it is also seen to be of high importance within the context of health care libraries. Health care libraries and librarians can provide crucial support towards the implementation of evidence‐based practice in patient care through both information literacy skills training and by conducting mediated searches on behalf of health care practitioners. This article reports the findings from an investigation conducted by Charlotte Kelham as part of her MA in Librarianship from the University of Sheffield. Her dissertation investigated how health care librarians understand the concept of information literacy, the implications of this for their role and their perceptions around how their role is valued. This article is the first in the feature to explore personal tracking devices – in this case the Fitbit – and the relationship between their use and people's self‐perceptions and behaviour. Amber Edwards conducted the research for her MA dissertation at the University of Sheffield, graduating with an MA in Librarianship in January 2017. Her study shows that body image plays a large role in Fitbit use and that this is slightly more evident in females than males, although the differences are subtle. She argues that the results have implications for information professionals involved in teaching health information literacy. [目的/意义] 移动社交媒体在给用户带来极大便利和丰富体验的同时,其信息过载、重复、冗余等特点也使得用户倦怠、信息焦虑等负面情绪成为一个普遍现象。因此,对移动社交媒体环境下的用户信息焦虑行为进行探讨具有重要的实践意义和理论价值。[方法/过程] 对国内外相关研究文献进行梳理,从信息焦虑行为阐述、成因分析和研究对策等方面对移动社交媒体环境下的用户信息焦虑行为研究进展进行探讨。[结果/结论] 强迫使用、信息倦怠、抑郁情绪等都与信息焦虑行为相关,移动社交媒体下的用户信息焦虑行为表现为信息寻求焦虑、信息错失焦虑、信息安全焦虑、信息贮存焦虑。用户个体因素、信息资源因素、技术环境因素是其产生的主要原因。当前研究主要从构建信息焦虑行为量表(IAS)、开展实证研究、提出应对措施等方面进行,国内外在研究内容、研究对象和研究方法等方面存在不同之处。后续需要进一步开展实证研究、关注特殊群体的信息焦虑行为、为每一种类型的信息焦虑行为构建细化的量表、验证信息焦虑行为消解措施的有效性。  相似文献

This paper is based on Rachel Butler's dissertation carried out at the University of Sheffield as part of the MA Library and Information Services Management. The study examines people's online health information seeking skills, with the specific aim to identify how libraries and health services can work together in supporting digital and health literacy. A survey approach is used to explore online searching habits as well as librarian and health professionals’ views on health literacy. The key findings indicate that whilst the majority of respondents consider themselves to be health literate, there was an overall agreement that effective education and support could be achieved through the collaboration between libraries and health services, and specifically to signpost information and to provide targeted education. The limitations of the research for dissertation are recognised leading to recommendations that further study focuses on the impact of signposting and education on health literacy.F.J.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 研究职业女性网络健康信息搜寻行为,探明其影响因素,有助于健康信息平台为职业女性提供有针对性的信息服务,满足职业女性的健康信息需求。[方法/过程] 以压力应对理论和技术接受模型为理论基础,构建网络健康信息搜寻行为影响因素模型,考虑社会支持对压力作用的调节效应,以职业女性为研究对象,通过问卷调研和结构方程建模进行实证研究。[结果/结论] 研究结果显示,职业女性所面临的工作压力、家庭压力和生理压力会使女性产生焦虑情绪,从而促使她们进行网络健康信息的搜寻。同时,网络的有用性和易用性也决定了职业女性的网络健康信息搜寻行为。值得注意的是,我们发现社会支持不仅没有缓解各压力带来的影响,反而会加剧压力,尤其是生理压力的影响。  相似文献

This article is only the second in the Dissertations into Practice series to highlight the role of public libraries in health information. It is the result of an investigation into the provision of health information in East Sussex Library and Information Service, which formed the basis of Anneliese Ingham's dissertation for her MA in Information Studies at the University of Brighton. At the time Anneliese was doing her research, the service was experimenting with different ways of providing healthcare information at one of its main libraries, and they were interested in the impact of this. The provision of health information to the public is one of my own research interests, and I was Anneliese's dissertation supervisor. I thought she produced a very good piece of work, and the results she highlights in this article are applicable to all public library authorities. Anneliese graduated with an MA in 2012 and worked for East Sussex Library and Information Service, which she joined whilst she was still studying. AM  相似文献

[目的/意义]从用户视角分析图书馆帮助民众有效消减信息搜寻焦虑的作用机理,自下而上地评估图书馆在信息社会化进程中为民众提供公共文化服务的实际成效。[方法/过程]通过对708位图书馆用户进行问卷调查,运用结构方程模型对个体特征、图书馆使用行为、图书馆使用体验和信息搜寻焦虑之间的相互作用机理进行实证检验。[结果/结论]个体的教育、经济差异通过中介变量对信息搜寻焦虑产生显著影响,表现为教育水平较低、经济收入较高的两组群体焦虑感更强;图书馆使用体验越好,越有助于消减用户日常信息搜寻活动中产生的焦虑感;图书馆使用行为对信息搜寻焦虑不存在显著影响,但对其子维度认知能力障碍与信息利用障碍存在间接的负向影响。  相似文献

This feature has been co‐authored by Anna Cunningham and her supervisor Frances Johnson. It is based on the research Anna conducted for her dissertation, which she completed as part of her MA in Library and Information Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. The study explored how people assess the trustworthiness of online health information, and the participants were asked to talk aloud whilst viewing information on the consumer health information website patients.co.uk. The study confirmed that their assessment was based on the information usefulness and credibility as well as identifying the factors relating to information quality and website design that helped to form these judgements. This article is the first in the feature to highlight the social network site Twitter as a tool for health information and it reports on a study by Emma Hughes, who completed an MSc in information and library studies at Aberystwyth University in 2014. Emma's research investigated the quality of health information available on Twitter, in particular the information available on UK alcohol consumption guidelines. Her research suggests that users searching for this information would need certain literacy skills to interpret it correctly. However, there is no doubt that Twitter is an increasingly popular resource for information dissemination and health professionals, and organisations should be encouraged to use it frequently as a tool for sharing information. 目的:了解医学生图书馆焦虑现状,为探索改善医学生图书馆焦虑的干预模式提供依据。方法:以小班为单位,整群随机抽取安徽医科大学二、三年级在校学生为研究对象,采用方差分析分析图书馆焦虑的危险因素。结果:到馆率低、对信息素质教育重要性的认识程度不够、信息能力差、接受图书馆利用教育晚和信息环境条件差是图书馆焦虑的危险因素。结论:图书馆应丰富馆藏信息资源,提供全方位的服务。学校应重视信息素质教育,使学生能充分、有效地利用图书馆的信息资源。  相似文献

This paper is based on Victoria Charnock's MA dissertation carried out as part of her Masters in Leadership and Management in Healthcare at the University of Salford and supervised by Professor Hardiker. A review of current literature was conducted to provide a robust and dimensional definition of data quality in the field of health care. This was used as the basis on which to assess the effect that electronic health care records has had in practice, specifically on data quality and according to the dimensions of accuracy, completeness and use of data. All of the papers reviewed referred to the importance of accuracy and completeness, identifying the advantages of electronic health records in their use of standardized data entry controls. Drawing on the third dimension in the definition, use of data, the impact that system design may have on data quality and implications for staff training is further discussed and recommendations made. [目的/意义] 探索突发公共卫生事件中农村中老年人向正在接受高等教育的子辈寻求事件相关信息的代际反哺行为及其形成过程,以期为农村地区的风险信息的传播构建新路径,同时亦为政府部门进行乡村治理提供可实践的思路。[方法/过程] 基于动机信息管理理论,重点关注突发公共卫生事件中农村中老年人的不确定性差异、焦虑、结果预期和效能是否会影响他们的信息寻求行为。同时,在获得相关信息后,他们是否会表现出信息采纳和信息传递的行为。在新冠肺炎疫情发生期间,利用问卷调查法收集数据,通过统计分析软件进行研究假设的验证。[结果/结论] 通过分析发现,不确定性差异会引起农村中老年人的焦虑,进而影响其结果预期和效能,最后触发他们的信息寻求行为。他们亦会采纳和传递所获取的信息,以达到共同防疫的目的。  相似文献

Based on the information-as-coping perspective, we provided a theoretical framework to understand how the quality of government information and citizens' partisanship impact citizens' wellbeing in terms of satisfaction with life and anxiety during COVID-19. With survey data from 705 respondents in Indonesia, we found that government information quality is of vital importance in helping citizens get ready to fight the pandemic, as well as lowering their anxiety. Our results show that higher information quality leads to a higher ability to respond quickly to the crisis, as well as a reduced level of information overload. While partisanship is a significant predictor of information overload, it had no significant impact on perceived quick response ability. Quick response ability and information overload, in turn, predict anxiety and citizen's satisfaction with life.  相似文献

This paper is based on Helen Kiely’s Masters dissertation on MA in Library and Information Service Management, successfully completed at the University of Sheffield in 2018. The aim of the study was to explore the extent to which users of a health care library service understood common terminology used by clinical librarians/information professionals. A survey was developed based on the terminology used for common services and was distributed to staff and students at an acute NHS Foundation Trust. One hundred and eight people participated over a four week period and were asked to provide definitions to the terms. Analysis of the responses for accuracy and common themes indicates that jargon can be a barrier to user access and recommendations are made with respect to the need for outreach to users and the language used in this practice for creating better accessibility. [目的/意义] 图书馆焦虑是影响我国高校学生图书馆资源利用的主要障碍,对图书馆焦虑及其影响因素进行的研究,有助于图书馆更深入地了解用户心理,进而提升为用户服务的质量。[方法/过程] 采用访谈法、问卷调查法、数理统计等方法,从资源、检索、制度、员工、知识、舒适度和情感7个维度及用户的一般人口学特征、个人特质、信息素养培训状况3方面来研究我国高校学生图书馆焦虑现状及其影响因素。[结果/结论] 通过构建图书馆焦虑测量常模,发现我国高校学生图书馆焦虑处于中度焦虑水平。研究还表明,资源、检索和制度维度是影响图书馆焦虑的主要因素,用户在各维度的图书馆焦虑程度与其性别、年级、年龄、学习成绩、所属高校类型、一般性焦虑和自尊状况以及是否参加图书馆培训和信息检索课程等自身因素有关。本研究为我国图书馆焦虑实证研究提供测量工具;了解图书馆焦虑形成的原因及其影响因素,提出解决图书馆焦虑的具体策略,为图书馆开展读者服务工作提供参考。  相似文献

This research aims to provide an analytic and critical review of research on information seeking anxiety (ISA) with a view to inform the information professionals, especially those engaged in information literacy instructions about the existing situation. This study established the background of the proposed phenomenon, provided integrated analysis of the available research, and discussed the theoretical and practical implications of ISA on information services, especially information literacy instruction. Although the results from previous studies were not comparable, directly due to varied geographical contexts and research methods, it was nevertheless possible to draw some common conclusions regarding the users’ anxiety related to information seeking tasks. This review overwhelmingly indicated the manifestation and prevalence of ISA among students in the digital environment. Some personal and academics variables of students appear to be correlated with ISA. The results of reviewed studies indicated the necessity for a need-based information literacy curriculum for alleviation of anxiety related to students’ information-seeking tasks.  相似文献

Objective: The article gives an account of a study on the impact of facilitating information literacy education (FILE) on its participants, health librarians who have attended this course between 2007 and 2010. Methods: The analysis presented here is based on the first stage of the research, funded by the Higher Education Academy Information and Computer Sciences and consisting of an online survey. This survey was conducted in Autumn 2010 and examined the respondents’ examples of information literacy practice before and after FILE. Results and conclusion: Two main outcomes can be drawn from the data. First, that overall the respondents’ provision of information literacy education has shifted from a tutor‐centred approach (where the trainer decides what the learner needs) to a learner‐centred approach (where the learner decides what he/she needs). And secondly, that the impact of FILE should be seen in terms of a self‐perpetuating professional development, rather than measured in terms of specific changes that occur at set times (e.g., at the end of the course or 6 months after completion). As one FILE participant puts it: ‘When FILE ends your career as an information literacy professional starts.’  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which organized training on accessing library resources affects library anxiety. The researchers revised and used the Multidimensional Library Anxiety Scale created by D. J. Van Kampen-Breit, which was designed to assess an individual's perception of an academic library and the information search process. Participants were given a pretest prior to information literacy sessions and a posttest following these sessions. Data analysis suggests a significant decrease in students’ anxiety levels following information literacy training sessions. The results of this study were applied to C. C. Kuhlthau's Information Search Process model and have implications for librarians, instructors, and students regarding factors related to library anxiety and its effective management.  相似文献
