The ＂reproduction theory＂ was conceived and born in the research into educational inequalities in Western countries. Famous as the theory is, when it is to be applied in the research into education in China, a few factors must be taken into consideration： the subjects investigated must be educational inequalities that have come into being in the context of China; a shift in theoretical approach and expression is needed, with the Functional approach as the dominant research method; in terms of the standpoint of the researcher, whose academic mission and realization of social ideals should be closely and fully integrated; in terms of research method, the principle of combining both the macroscopic and microscopic approaches and analysis on the basis of actual facts should be adopted so as to effectively analyze and solve the problems plaguing the education of China and to promote the localization of the western reproduction theory in China. 相似文献

Australia currently faces a skill shortage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professions unlikely to improve if the current trend of low enrolments in high-level mathematics in secondary school continues. Many factors seem to contribute to this trend, and amongst them, research recognises student attitudes towards mathematics and careers in STEM. Research also shows that teachers and classroom practices are key agents to change these attitudes. This paper examines teachers’ perceptions of students’ attitudes towards mathematics and careers in STEM, as well as classroom practices emanating from those perceptions. Combining data from two studies, a large-scale survey and an intervention, we argue three main points: (1) student attitudes and teachers’ perceptions of those attitudes quite clearly differ, (2) targeted interventions showing links between mathematics and careers in STEM can have an influence on students’ perceptions of STEM careers and (3) an implementation of classroom ability grouping based on standardised test scores can be disadvantageous to students who have a natural inclination towards STEM and positive attitudes towards mathematics. 相似文献

We use a unique longitudinal sample of student teachers (“interns”) from six Washington state teacher training institutions to investigate patterns of entry into the teaching workforce. We estimate split population models that simultaneously estimate the impact of individual characteristics and student teaching experiences on the timing and probability of initial hiring as a public school teacher. Not surprisingly, we find that interns endorsed to teach in “difficult-to-staff” areas are more likely to find employment as public school teachers than interns endorsed in other areas. Younger interns, white interns, and interns who completed their student teaching in suburban schools are also more likely to find a teaching job, all else equal. Prospective teachers who do their internships at schools that have more teacher turnover are more likely to find employment, often at those schools. On the other hand, few of the characteristics of an intern's cooperating teacher are predictive of workforce entry. Finally, interns with higher credential exam scores are more likely to be hired by the school where they did their student teaching. 相似文献

in Denmark, Victoria (Australia) and the International Baccalaureate. The introduction of the graphics calculator required
those responsible for writing examination questions to consider how to assess mathematical skills within this new environment.
This paper illustrates the types of mathematics skills that have been assessed within the graphics-calculator-assumed environment.
The analysis of the examination questions indicated that only two out of the six mathematics examinations considered demonstrated
any significant change in the types of skills assessed in conjunction with the introduction of the graphics calculator. The
results suggest that it is possible to reduce the use of questions assessing routine procedures (mechanical skills) with a
graphics calculator, but it is also evident that there have not been major changes in the way that examination questions are
written nor the mathematics skills which the questions are intended to assess. 相似文献

Several trends in the principal’s role emerged during the first year of administrative reforms. These included high levels of workload and stress as they implemented the new system; negotiation of new relationships with parents and community members; concerns about opportunities for women in leadership; a higher political profile for principals in the New Right context; and tensions between the leadership and managerial aspects of their role. The move to self management has given New Zealand principals a higher degree of autonomy and power than ever before and, as the reforms begin to impact on the education system, there is a need for continuing public debate about the parameters of the principal’s role in relation to the social and educational roles of schools. In addition new models for professional development are needed together with a regulation of the pace of change to reduce workload and stress. 相似文献

A thorough understanding of chemical bonding requires familiarity with the particulate nature of matter. In this study, a two‐tier multiple‐choice diagnostic instrument consisting of ten items (five items involving each of the two concepts) was developed to assess students’ understanding of the particulate nature of matter and chemical bonding so as to identify possible associations between students’ understandings of the two concepts. The instrument was administered to 260 Grades 9 and 10 students (15–16 years old) from a secondary school in Singapore. Analysis of students’ responses revealed several alternative conceptions about the two concepts. In addition, analysis of six pairs of items suggested that students’ limited understanding of the particulate nature of matter influenced their understanding of chemical bonding. The findings provide useful information for challenging students’ alternative conceptions about the particulate nature of matter during classroom instruction in order to enable them to achieve better understanding of chemical bonding. 相似文献
