美国“图书馆作为公众科学社区中心”项目旨在通过公共图书馆社区锚点的身份扩大公众科学的实践范围、提升公众科学素养,在全美范围内产生了广泛影响,值得我国学习借鉴。本文利用网络调查法对该项目进行研究,分析其实践举措,为我国公共图书馆推动公众科学的发展提供有益借鉴。具体来说,可通过吸引民众参与公众科学项目、开展公众科学项目科研数据管理与共享服务、提升图书馆馆员公众科学服务能力和构建以公共图书馆为枢纽的全国公众科学协作网络等措施,将公共图书馆打造成为公众科学的社区中心,支持公众科学的普及和可持续发展。 相似文献

[目的/意义]对美国高校图书馆公众科学服务现状进行梳理总结，以期为我国高校图书馆开展公众科学服务提供借鉴。[方法/过程]选取美国已开展公众科学服务的9所高校图书馆作为调研对象，从图书馆网站"公众科学"栏目的设置情况、公众科学项目推荐、资源推荐以及公众科学实践活动的开展等方面进行分析和总结，在此基础上对我国高校图书馆开展公众科学服务提出建议。[结果/结论]指出我国高校图书馆应加强公众科学教育，引导馆员和公众积极参与公众科学实践；在图书馆网站上建立功能完善的"公众科学"栏目；开展形式多样的公众科学活动；充分利用创客空间推动公众科学服务的发展；设置公众科学服务岗位；发挥图书馆学会和联盟的力量，鼓励和指导高校图书馆开展公众科学服务。 相似文献

Public libraries in all developed countries are facing change and similar challenges, which are related to profound environmental changes such as market orientation and privatization. This study probes the question: Do the established and traditional norms and standards of public librarianship structure the way these challenges are met and coped with, or are these professional standards losing their structuring power? Three metropolitan library systems representing three different levels of environmental turbulence are compared. The main conclusion is that field external, environmental tendencies decide the direction of change. Field norms do, however, count. If overlooked, they form a basis of resistance. The librarians hypothesized to be the defenders of professional values, (i.e., the librarians showing the highest degree of field activity) are more inclined to accept field external changes than their more professionally passive colleagues. The study and its findings may contribute to the arsenal of theoretic approaches within library and information science (LIS) as well as to practical public library management. 相似文献

Public libraries serve as valuable assets in meeting a community's strategic goals. This article investigates strategies for the development of public libraries in Lagos State, Nigeria. Observation and questionnaire methods were used as research tools. The population of the study consists of librarians and users of public libraries in Lagos State. The eleven public libraries and twenty local government libraries in the state were surveyed. The major findings were that public libraries in Lagos State were not adequately funded and that the parent body has yet to meet the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) standard of public library establishment. Public librarians in South Korea assist users in obtaining information on a variety of topics. However, health-related information and services have a lower profile than other services due to a perceived lack of librarian expertise in searching and evaluating health resources. Although public library users are actively seeking health information, it has become critical for both public librarians and users to develop skills for using and evaluating Internet health resources. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify a set of useful criteria to evaluate online health web sites for both librarians and library users. From a comprehensive literature review, 33 criteria related to health website evaluation were identified. Using this set of criteria, South Korean public librarians and users were asked to rate the importance of each criterion in surveys. A strong consensus was found between the two groups. The top 10 most highly rated criteria from both groups were identified and compared. The results led to the development of an initial set of 12 evaluation criteria for health websites. It is expected that the final set of criteria will be used by public librarians to recommend the best health websites to their users. Although the study was conducted in South Korean public libraries, the findings are applicable in providing evaluation services of health websites to libraries worldwide. 相似文献

美国图书馆职业资格认证标准分为公共图书馆员、中小学图书馆员、图书馆管理者3类,其中公共图书馆员职业资格认证标准根据是否需要图书馆学硕士学位或图书馆学与信息科学硕士学位可细分为两类及其对应的不同等级;中小学图书馆员职业资格认证标准分为全国通用的和州立的两种类型,后者较为普遍,涉及教师许可证、硕士学位、图书馆媒体内容测试、其他测试和资格证书评价需满足的条件5个方面;图书馆管理者职业资格认证标准包含预算与经费、技术管理、组织与人事管理、建筑规划与管理等9个领域需达到的要求。上述3类认证的认证机构是不同的,但认证程序基本相同,且都可采用等级认证、学历认证、考试认证或交叉认证。对美国图书馆职业资格认证标准与实施制度的分析有助于为我国图书馆职业资格认证提供借鉴。 相似文献

An online survey distributed to librarians at public libraries across North America established some interesting trends in public librarians’ perceptions of ebooks and teens. Some of the findings of this study are that teen library users strongly prefer to read print books for their recreational reading and show very little interest in ebooks or ebook programs offered by public libraries. Survey respondents indicate that teen library users remain largely unaware of or disinterested in the advantages of ebooks in providing them a convenient, private, and customizable recreational reading experience. Even when public librarians offer ebook programs for teens through school outreach, these programs tend to focus on the titles in the collection and the download process, rather than the specific benefits of ebook reading. More active promotion of these advantages could potentially appeal to teens, especially to non-library users and reluctant readers. 相似文献

Results of a 2017 survey of 983 public librarians in the U.S. and Canada show that libraries increasingly provide opportunities for both youth and adults to practice yoga at the library. This article examines how these public library yoga programs work and what impacts they have. Most libraries have limited means to assess the impact of these programs. Nonetheless, over 80% of responding librarians said participation in yoga programs had met or exceeded their expectations, and 60% said yoga programs have brought new users into their libraries. These results suggest that yoga programs in public libraries are having significant effects. 相似文献

This exploratory qualitative study examines how whiteness functions in the field of library and information science (LIS) within higher education institutions. Utilizing a critical phenomenological approach, three questions guided the inquiry: (1) How is whiteness embodied by academic librarians, (2) What perceptions do academic librarians hold that contribute to the maintenance or disruption of habits of whiteness in libraries, and (3) How and where is whiteness embedded within academic library settings and the field of LIS?The aim was to begin understanding whiteness in libraries as an experientially-grounded and systemically reproduced phenomena. Four academic librarians participated in semi-structured interviews that explored participant identity and experiences with race, specifically whiteness, in their professional lives. Data were analyzed using a cyclical coding approach resulting in six themes. This research may contribute to a better understanding of the way libraries function as racial projects and can assist librarians in seeing the importance of adopting critical reflexivity as a tool for recognizing and disrupting systemic habits of white normativity in libraries. 相似文献

Social network analysis (SNA) as theoretical framework and quantitatively oriented methodology offers public libraries and public library researchers an as-yet-unexplored way into their big data stories based on these library connections with their community. SNA offers library and information science researchers a methodology, and suggests a new research agenda, to better envision the relationships public libraries have with their communities both in-person and online by exploring the kinds of ties they have, how these ties lead to relationships, and how these relationships can be characterized. The quantitative orientation of SNA combined with its methods of data analysis in the forms of networks and hubs could give libraries the “hard” data they are so often in need of to demonstrate their value to their political leaders, and could uncover new directions in library use and library relationships. 相似文献

America’s public libraries have faced changes because of technology’s challenges—but a disruption that’s just as dangerous is the gradual dwindling of the public funding that they have historically relied on. To meet the formidable challenges, librarians will have to go back to their historical “roots.” So-called “public” libraries, after all, were actually founded by large bequests from private donors such as Andrew Carnegie and Samuel Tilden. Modern-day librarians—from Virginia to Montana—that have embraced the crucial work of fundraising have been able to devise imaginative, sometimes Internet-based, solutions to overcoming budget shortfalls. This study investigates the current state of continuing professional development activities for information professionals in academic libraries, as well as their perceptions of the value of different continuing professional development activities. A questionnaire was used to collect data from 63 librarians and information professionals working at five Kuwaiti academic libraries, located in two public and three private universities. The findings of the study revealed that, generally, information professionals in academic libraries are of the opinion that they possess personal and professional skills that enable them to serve library users. Moreover, continuing professional development activities and programs are perceived as important for developing a professional workforce and maintaining professional competence. 相似文献

At Webster University, solo librarians manage libraries on six campuses in Africa, Europe, and Asia. On the home campus in St. Louis, ten librarians at a traditional library serve faculty, staff, and students at metro and military campuses across the U.S., at international campuses, and online. To ensure consistency for users, librarians have constructed a network to communicate and collaborate across borders. The librarians meet on a monthly basis using WebEx software and collaborate asynchronously on instructional projects using LibGuides. Library committees have international librarian representation. The libraries have centralized cataloging and electronic resources at the home campus library. As librarians built an instructional webinar series, they worked together to brainstorm topics and partnered to deliver content to all students. This paper will discuss how this network was built, challenges to communication, and the benefits of tapping into the diversity and expertise of librarians around the world. 相似文献
