According to AACR2 21.4D1 and 21.4D3 for works by heads of state, other high government officials, popes, and other high ecclesiastical officials, catalogers are to enter a person's personal heading and a person's corporate heading as main entry and added entry in the same bibliographic record. Entering both a person's personal and corporate headings in the same bibliographic record leads to the retrieval of identical sets where a person is represented in the catalog in both an official and a private capacity. This paper proposes to eliminate redundant entries in bibliographic records in order to help users find resources by heads of state (etc.) through the authority structure of the catalog. 相似文献

The use of uniform title for serials and monographic series with generic titles, a practice that began with the adoption of the Anglo-American Calaloging Rules, second edition, creates many problems and should be substantially modified or discontinued. Alternative practices would be to place the qualifier to a generic title in the 245 (title) field itself or to return to the use of corporate author main entry. Although local procedures can help make uniform titles manageable, adjustments in current uniform title procedures should be made in AACR2, even before AACR3 is published, and these adjustments should be incorporated into AACR3. 相似文献

For almost half a century, music librarians, media librarians, and professional associations have advocated classifying audiovisual materials using the same classification scheme that a library uses for print materials. Despite this strong advocacy, not all media materials have been classified. Music moving image materials have often received the same lack of subject classification access as sound recordings and other media resources. Libraries are now replacing their videocassette collections with DVDs and are presented with the opportunity to rectify this situation. A discussion of the advantages of including class numbers in the bibliographic records for music moving image materials will also demonstrate the applicability and advantages for video collections in general. 相似文献

The availability and content of on-line bibliographic records for curriculum materials are evaluated in this study. Records were selected from the OCLC OnLine Union Catalog, the predominant on-line bibliographic network providing cataloging to all types of libraries including school libraries and others supporting curriculum material collections. Based on a sample of shelflist cards for curriculum materials from the Instructional Materials Laboratory collection of the University Libraries at California State University, Northridge, a quantitative assessment is made of the content of the matching OCLC records. Study results suggest that the availability and content of OCLC catalog records for curriculum materials may satisfy the bibliographic information and access requirements of curriculum materials collection librarians. 相似文献

This paper discusses some common problems which catalogers of Slavic materials may encounter in establishing Slavic headings under AACR2. Three categories of headings have been selected: geographical, corporate and personal names concerned with the Soviet Union. Emphasis is placed upon cases where a cataloger may apply the rules correctly, but still establish an incorrect heading. During the past 25 years, Swedish research libraries have witnessed three changes of catalogue code and the implementation of a computer system, first intended for integrated use but recently changed into supporting local stand-alone systems. The present code, based on AACR2, rejected 21.1B2 for serials, preferring t~tle as main entry in all cases. Motion pictures are usually entered under title. This cataloging tradition is examined against AACR2 and earlier codes to determine its source, and to assess the extent of its compliance with, or deviation from the current cataloging code. The authorship conditions of motion pictures are discussed in an attempt to establish criteria for choice of main entry that are consistent with general principles of cataloging. Suggestions are made for modifying AACR2 to accommodate the main entry needs of motion pictures and other works with comparable authorship conditions. 相似文献

Study findings suggest that access to Spanish language adult fiction through bilingual records in the OPAC is mutually beneficial for RA librarians and patrons. Subject access depends on local cataloging policies regarding enhancements for bibliographic records and catalogers' Spanish language proficiencies. Without incentives to enhance bibliographic records, local bilingual cataloging will continue but may not be shared. Reader advisory can be improved with the multicultural RA tools, multilingual RA websites, incentives to libraries for enhancements to non‐English records, and linking individual bibliographic records in OPACS to reviews and comments for titles in languages other than English. 相似文献
