Relevance and Quality of Universities’ Community Service: a study of Griffith University

In their mission statements most universities refer to the provision of community service. There is a continuum of such services. At one end is the general and indirect contribution through their teaching and research programmes. At the other are the specific and direct contributions through the use of their expertise and facilities. Within this context, Griffith University implemented a systematic assessment programme of its direct and specific community services. To gather data on the nature and extent of these services, the University conducted a detailed survey. To assess the quality and net effect of these activities, a programme of impact studies was conducted. Elements from the University bid for the opportunity to be included and 19 services which varied widely in aims, scope and target‐community were selected for funding. Evaluation methodologies adopted in these studies had in common an emphasis upon faculty‐community collaboration, a commitment to multiple data sources and types, and a concern for identifying trends and recommending improvements to current practices. This paper gives further details of this innovative approach to the evaluation of the community service performance of a contemporary university, and makes recommendations arising out of this project which may assist other universities in reflecting upon their policies and practice in this area.  相似文献   

农村居民流域生态治理参与意愿的距离效应——以石羊河流域为例

明确农村居民流域生态治理参与意愿的距离效应,是提升生态治理效益评估精度及充分理解公众诉求的重要前提。本文基于石羊河流域390户农村居民实地调研数据,借助选择实验法获取流域居民生态治理参与意愿,运用MNL模型分析了距离对不同流域区段农村居民生态治理参与意愿的影响。结果表明：与以往研究得出的“距离衰减”规律不同,石羊河流域中游农村居民生态治理参与意愿随着距河流和水库距离的增加而增强,以及下游农村居民生态治理参与意愿随着距水库距离的增加而增强,呈现出“距离强化”规律。据此建议：①将距离效应纳入到生态治理效益核算的方法体系,以提高核算精度;②生态治理政策设计应更多地考虑公众诉求的差异性,以获取公众支持;③生态治理方面的宣传教育工作可结合距离效应进一步细分宣传对象。研究旨在为内陆河流域生态治理的相关政策制定提供更具针对性的依据。  相似文献   

Double stochastic resonance induced by varying potential-well depth and width

The role of potential-well depth and width on stochastic resonance (SR) driven by colored noise with different noise correlation times is explored and evaluated by deriving the analytic expression of output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as a most widely used indicator for quantifying SR phenomenon. Double resonance peaks are observed and shifted between single peak and double peaks when SNR is expressed as the function of varying potential-well depth, varying potential-well width, additive noise intensity, multiplicative noise intensity and the intensity ratio between two noise, respectively. Moreover, the SR behavior induced by varying potential-well depth is different from that induced by varying potential-well width. Even the shapes of SNR curves under different correlation times and coupling strength for potential-well depth are opposite to those for potential-well width and furthermore they are also of dependence on initial conditions. Above clues may be helpful to the precise control of SR by varying potential-well depth and width separately for weak signal enhancement.  相似文献
