Studies have documented the importance of dialogic classroom discourse for supporting academic outcomes such as reading comprehension and vocabulary development. This study examines the relationship between teacher talk during whole-classroom discussions in 42 classrooms and post-discussion persuasive essays from students in grades four through seven (n = 471). Teacher talk was coded by type of question (contestable, semi-open, or quiz-like) and teachers' follow-ups (prompting, pressing for reasoning, active listening), and further categorized as indicating either high or low levels of dialogic talk. Multilevel modeling that accounts for student participation rate, discussion topic, and students' demographic information shows that high dialogic teacher talk positively predicts students’ persuasive essay scores, while low dialogic teacher talk negatively predicts their scores. The study supports existing hypotheses about the role of teacher dialogic talk in whole-class settings.  相似文献

A resource dilemma is a circumstance in which an aggregate of people share a slowly replenishing “resource pool” out of which each person can “harvest” a significant amount at any time. In the first study in which the content of relevant discussion is analyzed, participants experienced an experimental simulation of a resource dilemma with either of two replenishment rates. As hypothesized, the higher replenishment rate, in comparison to the lower, was associated with larger total harvests, less variation among participants in points harvested, more positive participant judgments of their experience, and a greater proportion of types of communication content related with successful performance.  相似文献

为促进学生思考并提高响应速度,提出一种从历史研讨记录中挖掘相关信息的在线问答推荐方法。该方法包括建立技术词汇层次树、提取任务词汇、文本段落划分、特征抽取、主题识别过滤和计算文档得分6个步骤。通过设计两个实验来评估所提出的方法:第一个实验比较TF-IDF、TF-IDF+主题过滤以及TF-IDF+LSA+主题过滤三种推荐方法,结果表明使用TF-IDF+主题过滤的算法可以获得最好的推荐效果;第二个实验将系统用于一个学期的在线课程研讨中,现场评估结果表明,文档推荐系统可以促进学生研讨,并且有较高的感知有用性和易用性。本研究表明,中等相关程度的历史研讨记录可以被自动挖掘出来,并且向学生提供这些信息可以促进学生思考和研讨。  相似文献

The Lawson Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning (LCTSR) was used to gauge the relative effectiveness of three different methods of pedagogy, Reading, Presenting, and Questioning (RPQ), Experimenting and Discussion (ED), and Traditional Methods (TM), on increasing students' level of scientific thinking. The data of a one-semester-long senior high-school project indicate that, for the LCTSR: (a) the RPQ group (n?=?91) achieved effect-sizes d?=?0.30 and (b) the ED group (n = 85) attained effect-sizes d?=?0.64. These methods have shown that the Piagetian and Vygotskian visions on learning and teaching can go hand in hand and as such achieve respectable results. To do so, it is important to challenge the students and thus encourage the shift towards higher levels of reasoning. This aim is facilitated through class management which recognizes the importance of collaborative learning. Carrying out Vygotsky's original intention to use teaching to promote cognitive development as well as subject concepts, this research has shown that it is better to have students experience cognitive conflict from directly observed experiments than by reflecting on reported experience from popularization papers or writings found on the internet.  相似文献
