Accounting for quality: arts evaluation,public value and the case of “Culture counts”

Arts policy has a longstanding relationship with the concept of “quality” and the ways in which organisations measure, evaluate and account for it. Culture Counts, an evaluation system and digital platform, compiles data from standardised evaluation surveys of different stakeholder groups – organisations, audiences, critics, funders and peers – and provides the means to compare and triangulate data in an accessible format. As a result, it claims to provide a more effective, democratic tool for quality measurement of art, which demonstrates the public value of funding [Department of Culture and the Arts, & Knell, J. (2014). Through qualitative research with two consortia of organisations involved in Culture Counts pilot projects in Manchester, England and Victoria, Australia, we explore these claims, comparing the reception and promotion of the system in both countries and considering its potential incorporation into policy assessment frameworks and adoption within arts organisations’ existing evaluation capacities.  相似文献

Measuring the value of theatre for Tyneside audiences

What values do theatre and dance hold for audience members? And how do these values differ between subsidised, amateur, and commercial performance? This paper addresses these questions through a survey of over 1800 spectators for theatre and dance in Tyneside in northeastern England, as well as a parallel set of focus groups, in the spring of 2014. These methods, which are designed for comprehensiveness and comparability, are being used across Europe by the Project on European Theatre Systems, a working group of theatre sociologists. Our research showed two sets of values which performances achieved; one was a common measure of performance quality, while the other described the values particular to subsidised work. This allows us to articulate both the general value of the arts and the particular values which subsidy (attempts to) facilitate. This has implications for both understandings of cultural value and for cultural policy, as the distinction between the two groups was not clean. We also found that amateur theatre participated in the same value system, but with an increased emphasis on loyalty and community cohesion. The paper concludes a methodological reflection on the use of quantitative methods in theatre studies.  相似文献

摘要：武术是中华民族优秀的文化遗产，有其特殊的文化内涵和价值功能，它不仅传达着一种文化，更传递着一种精神,而武化教育的实质就是倡导武术精神。主要采用文献资料等科研方法,围绕着武化教育的实质，以及武术精神的当代价值等方面展开论述，其目的是更加全面地了解武术所蕴含的精神价值，探讨其在时代背景下如何发挥其自身优势更好地服务当今社会。研究认为：武术精神与中国传统文化有着千丝万缕的联系，它不仅成为凝聚民族力量、彰显国家意志的利器，而且对于培养国民的尚武精神，唤醒民众对传统文化的自觉发挥了重要作用。当前应该大力弘扬武术精神中所表达的“忠、义、信、勇”的精神实质，更好地提振民族精神，团结民众，凝聚力量，为实现中华民族伟大复兴的“中国梦”做出贡献。对于进一步唤醒民众对传统文化的自觉，培养国民的尚武精神，更好地服务中华民族伟大复兴的“中国梦”都有着十分重要的现实意义。  相似文献   

实用主义体育与体育教学内容的实用性分析

摘要：实用主义体育是沐浴着美国实用主义哲学与实用主义教育学的基本思想，承继并改造欧洲自然主义体育的基本理念和内容发展而来。20世纪初传入我国后，促使我国的学校体育教学内容发生了一系列变化，这些变化在某种程度上，促进了我国学校体育的完善和发展，但同时也造成体育学科的严谨性、科学性和适用性受到损害。这种现象在当今的体育基础教育改革中亦时有隐现，致使我国的基础体育教育受到了一定的影响。为了准确、清晰地研究和把握实用主义体育的精神实质，对体育教育领域的价值和存在的问题，本研究以体育教学内容的选择为着眼点，采用文献资料法，深入分析了自然主义体育与实用主义体育的基本差异，实用主义体育教学内容的理论基础、源流和发展。在充分认识体育教学内容“实用性”基本含义的基础上，研究结论认为，追求体育教学内容“实用性”，首先强调以“体育教学内容”这一核心要素为本，尊重学生作为实用性的基本指向；其次，强调应认识并厘清体育的本体价值和工具价值，在此基础上，努力对体育教学内容本体价值追求的回归，实现对体育教学内容工具价值的理性“扬弃”。  相似文献

功能训练的理念来源于康复领域，现已逐步应用到运动训练中。由于乒乓球运动的项目特征，乒乓球运动员肩关节、腰椎关节、膝关节、踝关节、腕关节等部位容易出现运动损伤。通过对乒乓球运动员常出现的功能问题进行分析，寻找存在的常见问题，进而提出相应的功能训练建议。乒乓球运动员可根据情况，增加改善肩关节、胸椎关节、髋关节、踝关节的活动范围的训练，提高肩胛骨、核心和下肢稳定性的训练，以及改善肩袖、躯干肌力不平衡的训练，通过针对性的功能训练有效减少乒乓球运动员损伤的发生。  相似文献   

The application of inertial measurement units and functional principal component analysis to evaluate movement in the forward 3½ pike somersault springboard dive

Based on technological and analytical advances, the capability to more accurately and finitely examine biomechanical and skill characteristics of movement has improved. The purpose of this study was to use Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and Functional Principal Components Analysis (fPCA) to examine the role of movement variability (assessed via angular velocity), on 2 divers (1 international level; 1 national) performing the forward 3½ pike somersault dive. Analysis of angular velocity curves during ive-flight identified 5 fPCs, accounting for 96.5% of movement variability. The national diver’s scatter plots and standard deviation of fPC scores illustrated larger magnitudes of angular velocity variability across dive flight. For fPC1 and fPC3, magnitudes of SD variability were 282.6 and 201.5, respectively. The international diver illustrated more consistent angular velocity profiles, with clustering of fPCs scores (e.g., fPC1 & 3 = SD’s of 75.2 & 68.0). To account for lower variability in the international diver, the ability to better coordinate movement sequences and functionally utilise feedback in response to initiation of the somersault position is highlighted. Overall, findings highlight how both IMUs and fPCA can more holistically and finitely examine the biomechanical and skill characteristics of movement sequences with the capability to inform athlete development.  相似文献

采用文献资料法、逻辑演绎法等方法分析边区体育发展的历史动因和历史价值，目的在于揭示其发展与繁荣的历史必然性，准确把握当代体育发展的历史逻辑，并从中获得历史借鉴和启示。陕甘宁边区体育的发展与繁荣，抗日战争与民族意识的觉醒为其提供了精神动力，领导身体力行与专业组织的成立为其提供了组织保障，自己动手丰衣足食的方针与大生产运动为其提供了物质基础，专门的培训机构与体育人才的培养为其提供了技术支持。陕甘宁边区体育具有军事化、大众化和常态化特点，其历史价值在于：增强了军民的体质，提高了部队战斗力；促进了边区人民的空前团结，凝聚了民族力量；为新中国体育的发展开辟了新的路径，积累了宝贵的经验，提供了人才支持和技术基础。陕甘宁边区体育的发展启示我们：当代体育的发展不仅需要崇高的理想来引领、健全的组织来领导、专业的人才来支撑、先进的文化来保障，而且必须具有鲜明的服务“健康中国”“美丽中国”的时代主题和服务服务于广大普罗大众的价值取向。  相似文献
