Latino Portrayals in Local News Media: Underrepresentation,Negative Stereotypes,and Institutional Predictors of Coverage

Given the rise in negative rhetoric about Latinos in the U.S., it is essential to examine whether this negative tone extends to general, local news as well. An analysis of 2426 news articles drawn from 55 local newspapers in 2015 reveals several important findings. First, despite the intense spotlight on Latinos, they are still underrepresented in local news media. Relative to the other ethnic groups and whites, Latinos are more likely to be portrayed through negative stereotypes. However, the probability of this negative coverage is smaller for news media with a big proportion of Latino audiences, or for publicly-owned media outlets.  相似文献

The new Special Educational Needs and Disability legislation in the Children and Families Act 2014 intends to raise the aspirations of young people with special educational needs and their families, and improve their life outcomes. But what do raised aspirations and better outcomes look like for young people who have a life‐limiting impairment? This article draws on data from a parent evaluation of a lottery‐funded Transition to Adulthood project for boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), called ‘Takin’ Charge’, focusing in particular on whether or not the project helped parents of boys with DMD prepare for the future. Key themes that emerged were the importance and novelty of older role models with DMD in the project who were able to share their journeys into adulthood, the support between families that the project enabled, the meaning of family resilience and aspirations for a normal life. The use of solution‐focused questioning with families affected by a life‐limiting impairment is also explored.  相似文献

随着物质生活水平的逐步提高,人们越来越重视城市的文化功能.但是在现实中,我国的城市发展过于强调经济指标,而忽视了文化建设,导致许多城市面临着文化缺失的问题.体育文化与城市文化,是社会主义文化的重要组成部分.文章分析总结了我国城市发展中的文化缺失现象,对体育文化与城市文化发展的相容性进行分析,认为促进体育文化的发展在一定程度上丰富了城市文化,增加了城市文化的内涵与活力,是繁荣城市文化的重要途径.提出要在塑造文化价值观、创建独特的文化发展模式、协调好文化事业和文化产业的关系、促进文化互动交流和文化创新等几个方面来推进城市体育文化的发展.  相似文献

This paper comments on Darcia Narvaez's Kohlberg Memorial Lecture, published in this issue, with respect to her contrasting ethics and economics, or morality and market. My basic claim is that ethics and economics, properly understood, are just two sides of the same coin. One main point is that all morality solves cooperation problems and includes positive and negative sanctions to uphold it. The second claim is that competition in market economies is, in principle, ethically justified, and where it creates a problem, it is not just an ethical problem, but by the same token an economic one with which economists are concerned.  相似文献   

武术的文化解释

摘要：武术不仅是“术”，而且是显学和玄学的文化复合体，蕴藏着复杂而深奥的话语符号及精神意义。为了探骊武术文化的本真渊源与精神，对于武术及其高级阶段的内家拳进行研究，主要采用文献研究法，从文化形态学、文化人类学、宗教哲学和体育学等视角，运用格尔茨的文化“深描”理论，对其学术范式及认知图式进行文化阐释。研究认为，武术是生命科学所涉，武术文化是觉醒的文化；武术文化的原初属性，是其“观念—意义”、“武—道”的符号—结构—编码系统，更多地依赖道德直觉、本能体悟等符号解码系统；内家拳是武术的代表和精髓；道家修真文化和隐逸文化促成了内家拳的原初精神——返璞归真，内家拳进而传承和践行着道家、道教的精神和价值——悟道蓄德；以武入道是武术文化的终极意义。研究价值在于构建系统的武术文化深层分析体系，厘清内家拳丹道武学的机理，挖掘武术背后“道德直觉”的隐形文化式样，还原武术的原初文化精神和普世价值，促进国粹民粹的内化传承。  相似文献

摘要：当前我国冰雪体育产业发展势头强劲背后依旧存在很多突出问题，冰雪体育热点区域极化与产业链结构非均衡发展并存是当下存在的主要结构性问题。以我国冰雪体育产业为研究对象，从协调发展的视角出发，运用文献资料法、数据分析法和专家访谈法，结合非均衡发展的实际情况，考察其现状和问题，发现：我国冰雪体育产业规模和产值均处于上升期，市场空间大；自然禀赋差异悬殊导致区域发展不均衡。对此，提出非均衡发展区域战略、非均衡发展产业链战略以及协同创新、平衡渐进的协调发展战略，并进一步提出对策与建议，为我国冰雪体育产业健康可持续发展提供参考。  相似文献

The investigation is intended to generate knowledge about this largely under‐researched phenomenon based on the personal accounts of those who are actually experiencing it.
