In response to changing user needs, the library sought ways to meet new challenges and engage users outside of the building. Librarians were removed from the service desk in order to offer support at locations around campus. The service desk in the library was staffed primarily by paraprofessionals with librarians providing support as needed. Targeted staff training was offered, and different scheduling models were used over a period of time. Restructuring the service desk was a complicated endeavor but provided a number of benefits including expansion of services. Along the way, challenges were met and recognized as learning opportunities.  相似文献

Providing research consultations is an essential job responsibility for all academic librarians. One software option that can help to facilitate the process of scheduling research consultations is Springshare’s Appointments Scheduler (SAS), a feature within their LibCal software product. SAS has a number of features that make it easy for patrons and librarians to create, manage, and optimize the appointment. Summary

Electronic library services and myriad online resources are shifting the roles and workloads of academic reference librarians. Reallocation of staffing through a differentiated reference desk service model provides time to author curriculum-centered online research guides and tutorials, bibliographies, and webliographies. The expanding electronic information environment also opens new opportunities for teaching partnerships with university faculty. This article showcases a librarian's collaborative work with a history professor, noting student benefits/reactions and implications for future collaboration.  相似文献

This paper presents an example of constructive alignment in practice. Integrated technology supports were deployed to increase the consistency between learning objectives, activities and assessment and to foster student-centred, higher-order learning processes in the unit. Modifications took place over nine iterations of a second-year Marketing unit and were guided by a design-based research approach. The aligned technologies were embedded in voluntary weekly tasks, feedback, lecture participation and research skill acquisition. Findings indicate that constructive alignment strengthens and is strengthened by technology supports, resulting in consistently improved learner experiences in small (under 60) and large (over 500) face-to-face cohorts, over time and in comparison to benchmark data derived from over 65 similar units. Heuristic themes emerging from the study conceive constructively aligned technology interventions as gateways, springboards and enablers to improved learning and learner experiences.  相似文献

The development of new technologies and ensuing pedagogical research has led many tertiary institutions to integrate and adopt online learning strategies. The authors of this study have incorporated online learning strategies into existing educational practices of a second year anatomy course, resulting in half of the course content delivered via face-to-face lectures, and half delivered online via tailored video vignettes, with accompanying worksheets and activities. The effect of the content delivery mode on student learning was analyzed by tailoring questions to content presented either face-to-face or online. Four practical tests were conducted across the semester with each consisting of four questions. Within each test, two questions were based on content delivered face-to-face, and two questions were based on content delivered online. Examination multiple choice questions were similarly divided and assessed. Findings indicate that student learning is consistent regardless of the mode of content delivery. However, student viewing habits had a significant impact on learning, with students who viewed videos multiple times achieving higher marks than those less engaged with the online content. Student comments also indicated that content delivery mode was not an influence on learning. Therefore student engagement, rather than the mode of content delivery, is a determinant of student learning and performance in human anatomy. 混合学习作为一种新型教学模式,实现了传统面对面教学模式和在线学习模式的融合,使得英语学习朝着个性化和交互式自主化的方向发展,从而有效提高了大学英语教学效果.因此,研究混合学习模式对提高英语教学具有重要意义.本研究通过对170名非英语专业大学生进行问卷调查和英语写作测试,探索了混合学习模式对大学生英语写作水平及写作动机的影响.研究通过建立小型语料库,并利用语料库检索分析软件Wordsmith分析语料库中作文文本的词汇复杂度、词汇稠密度、词长、句数和句长五项指标,应用社会科学统计软件SPSS13.0对所有数据进行描述性分析和相关分析.研究结果显示,混合学习模式对提高英语写作水平有积极的促进作用;学生的英语写作学习动机明显增强,尤其是内在动机得到显著提高;学生对于混合学习满意度较高.文章最后探讨了混合学习在大学英语写作教学方面的优势以及本研究的局限性.  相似文献

Abstract

In January 2020, liaison librarians at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) adopted the online appointment scheduling tool “Microsoft Bookings” for student research consultations. We have found that a consistent web-based scheduling system has decreased demands on liaisons’ time, provided an easier referral method for our front-line desk staff, and lowered barriers for student access. In this column, we discuss our process and outcomes, as well as practical suggestions for those interested in adopting such a program at their institution.  相似文献

行政执法协商作为一种柔性的执法方式,有效地弥补了强制性执法的不足,充分彰显了“以人为本”的执政理念。但它也是一把双刃剑,在发挥积极影响的同时,存在着协商交易、假意协商、违法协商等滥用的风险。目前,行政执法协商这一新型执法方式还处在一个摸索前进的阶段。因而,只有进一步从执法裁量权、协商执法程序、执法人员素质、监督机制等方面提出相应的完善建议,才能使执法协商真正发挥出营造和谐执法秩序的目标。  相似文献
