AbstractAbsence from sport participation among girls from ethno-cultural minorities is often highlighted as an inclusion policy challenge. Based on 35 interviews with community sports coaches, managers and partners, we explore how the absence of girls is problematized in four Swedish sports-based interventions, focusing on how problems, as well as the means and the ends of social inclusion, are articulated. The girls are assessed as being in need of social change due to their alleged social exclusion. Absence is explained by “patriarchal norms” as well as by the introvert conduct of the girls themselves. Girls-only sports activities performed by female coaches as role models are described as a way for girls to gain social inclusion and to become emancipated from subjugating norms. In conclusion, participation in community sport is highlighted in discourse as crucial for adopting powers of emancipation. A similar discourse could be recognized elsewhere, inside and outside the realm of sport. 相似文献

This study, using a longitudinal design with a Swedish cohort of young readers, investigates if children’s early word decoding ability in second grade can predict later academic performance. In an effort to estimate the unique effect of early word decoding (grade 2) with academic performance (grade 9), gender and non-verbal cognitive ability were controlled for in hierarchical regression models. Results show that even after accounting for these factors, word decoding successfully predicted subject marks as well as attendance in advanced courses and language classes. The authors conclude that children’s early ability to decode words could be an important factor for predicting performance in school and, thus, stress the importance for schools to investigate children’s early word decoding ability. 相似文献

In research on learning, one of the fundamental questions concerns issues of language and thought. A number of empirical studies have revealed the interplay between understanding of subject matter and meanings of language expressions to be more dynamic and ambiguous than is commonly acknowledged. The aim of this article is to outline an alternative intentional-expressive approach to the interplay between use of language and understanding of subject matter as a contribution to the theoretical development in research on learning. The approach is based on a conception of language that focuses on the function of learners’ language use in relation to subject matter in developing and expressing understanding. The learner is seen as an agent, and the focus is on the use of language from the learner's perspective. Four aspects of the relation between learners and subject matter are described and discussed. Conclusions concern the value of this approach as a complement and alternative to the dominant communicative and cognitive approaches to the role of language in learning. 相似文献

In Sweden radio and television programs for educational purposes are produced by a special unit within Sveriges Radio (SR), but there is also a production unit outside the organization SR producing educational programs, in the first place for adults (TRU). In the near future these two units are to be joined into one. In the Educational Program Department of SR there is a special group concerned with research and development questions. For the time being there are four full‐time posts as researchers, and within the framework of the budget of the program department the research group has it's own budget for research and evaluation of radio and television in instruction. The aim of this internal research ‐‐ exemplified in this paper ‐ is to give producers such experience as can be of value both for the assessment of individual products and for production work in the long run. 相似文献

In an effort to contribute to the further development of educational relative autonomy theory, this article raises a few basic issues with regard to the relationships between the internal structuring of schooling and educational functions of social reproduction and change. The concepts of positive, negative and critical correspondence are introduced in order to analyse different forms of structuring in schooling in relation to the commodity form of economic production. The historical significance of different forms of correspondence is touched upon, and the potentials of critical correspondence between schooling within the State and the commodity form are discussed in terms of a contradiction between the functions of efficient accumulation and legitimation. 相似文献
