Student evaluation of audience response technology in large lecture classes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In the past few years, audience response technology (ART) has been widely adopted on college campuses, and is especially popular among instructors of large lecture classes. Claims regarding ART’s benefits to students have received only limited empirical evaluation, and prior studies exhibit methodological limitations. The current study provides a multi-dimensional evaluation, utilizing a newly-developed measure, the Audience Response Technology Questionnaire (ART-Q). Data were provided at three points during a semester by undergraduate students (n = 854) who used ART in three large lecture university courses. Results indicate moderately positive evaluations of ART on some dimensions (e.g., ease of use, impact on attendance), with less positive evaluations on others (e.g., influence on preparation for class). These evaluations showed some variability across time of semester and course, but were not substantially affected by gender, ethnicity, or year in school. Findings are discussed with respect to the need for future research on instructors’ techniques for using ART and their influence on student perceptions and outcomes.

Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is an inflammatory exudate that can be collected at the gingival margin or within the gingival crevice. The biochemical analysis of the fluid offers a non invasive means of assessing the host response in periodontal disease. Active phase of periodontal disease process can be measured or assessed by the constituents of gingival fluid. Bacterial enzymes, bacterial degradation products, connective tissue degradation products, host mediated enzymes, inflammatory mediators, extracellular matrix proteins either together or individually can be detected in higher levels in gingival crevicular fluid during active phase of periodontitis.  相似文献

The performance of a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) system using Pseudo Noise (PN) codes and chaotic codes in the presence of a Weibull fading channel is studied in this paper. The W-CDMA system modeled using Gaussian Approximation is analyzed on a Weibull fading channel which fades the amplitude of the transmitted signal randomly according to the Weibull distribution. Closed-form expressions for Bit Error Rate (BER) are derived and expressed in terms of Meijer?s-G function. Performance measures in terms of BER are plotted versus Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) for various values of fading severity, average fading power, and channel memory using PN and chaotic codes. Performance comparison between PN codes and chaotic codes are also analyzed.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation was to study the major chromosomal aberrations (CA) like deletion, translocation, inversion and mosaic in prostate cancer patients of Tamilnadu, Southern India. Totally 45 blood samples were collected from various hospitals in Tamilnadu, Southern India. Equal numbers of normal healthy subjects were chosen after signing a consent form. Volunteers provided blood samples (5 ml) to establish leukocyte cultures. Cytogenetic studies were performed by using Giemsaanding technique and finally the results were ensured by spectral karyotyping (SKY) technique. In the present investigation, major CA like deletion, translocation, inversion and mosaic were identifed in experimental subjects. Results showed frequent CA in chromosomes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 13, 16, 18 and X. In comparison with experimental subjects, the control subjects exhibited very low levels of major CA (P〈0.05). In the present study, the high frequency of centromeric rearrangements indicates a potential role for mitotic irregularities associated with the centromere in prostate cancer tumorigenesis. Identification of chromosome alterations may be helpful in understanding the molecular basis of the disease in better manner.  相似文献

Serum ferroxidase and albumin levels were determined in 98 patients of tubercuiosis, of whom 49 were freshly diagnosed, sputum positive (group-I) & 49 were completely treated patients (group-II). Forty nine age and sex matched healthy individuals were taken as controls. Mean±SD of serum ferroxidase and albumin levels in controls, group-I and group-II was found to be 864.35±106.35 IU/L & 3.91±0.234 g/dL, 1603.76±222.65 IU/L & 3.24±0.518 g/dL and 1001.78±201.63 IU/L & 3.82±0.43 g/dL, respectively. Serum ferroxidase in group I was significantly higher as compared to controls and group-II (p<0.01). The decreased levels of serum albumin in group I, as compared to control and group-II was statistically significant (p<0.01). Serum ferroxidase: albumin ratio (Ferroxidase in International Unit per gram of albumin) in group I (50.47±10.36 IU/g) was significantly higher than controls (22.22±3.3 IU/g), (p<0.001) while in group II it was significantly lower (26.72±7.18 IU/g, p<0.001) than group-I and close to control values. Serum ferroxidase: albumin ratio (IU/g) can therefore be incorporated as a surrogate marker to assist in diagnosis and prognosis of pulmonary tuberculosis.  相似文献

In this paper, we discussed the robust finite-time stability of conic type nonlinear systems with time varying delays. Some novel conditions are derived to design a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based sliding mode control (SMC) by proposing an integral switching surface. The sufficient conditions are derived for the considered nonlinear system using Lyapunov–Krasovskii stability theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed conditions can be solved using some standard numerical packages. Finally, a practical example is provided to validate the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed results.  相似文献
