Breaking Down Barriers for Student Parents and Caregivers with Family-Friendly Library Spaces

Abstract

In 2016, J. Murrey Atkins Library at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte opened a reservable study room where student parents and caregivers can study with their children on campus. In 2018, the library opened a second family-friendly study room to meet the needs of our growing campus community. To inform the room design, the library conducted a mixed methods research study that included a user survey, an examination of room reservation and usage data, and one-on-one user interviews. This paper focuses on the user-centered design process used to inform the development of the second, family-friendly, library study room.  相似文献   

Applying a family systems perspective for understanding parent—professional relationships: a study of families located in the Anglo‐Jewish community

Under current government directives, parents, along with professionals, are ascribed a central role in contributing to the processes associated with meeting their children's special needs. Yet many obstacles continue to hinder the achievement of good working relationships between parents and professionals. For parents located within minority ethnic communities, however, it is known that the challenges to attaining partnership working are often further heightened. Drawing on the day‐to‐day experiences of six families located in one minority ethnic context ‐ the Anglo‐Jewish community ‐ the author uses family systems theory as a useful lens through which parents' understandings of, and responses to professionals can be further interpreted and understood. 作为体育市场化改革的产物，社会体育指导员职业与市场经济密切相关。目前，我国社会体育指导员职业发展还未能完全摆脱计划经济思维模式的影响，现行的社会体育指导员体制还难以满足市场竞争需求，社会体育指导员职业资格证书制度缺乏市场针对性和灵活性。今后我国社会体育指导员职业建设应牢固树立市场经济意识，以市场需求为导向，完善社会体育指导员体制，建立面向市场的职业资格证书制度，落实职业准入制度，借助市场途径推广社会体育指导员职业，并可考虑对社会体育指导员职业进行更名。  相似文献   

“互联网+”背景下学前儿童家长成长教育课程资源的建设现状与改善策略探讨

0-6岁学前儿童家长学习意愿强,手机操作和互联网使用熟练,建设科学合理系统的学前儿童家长成长课程资源将有利于提升家庭教育质量。结合互联网+平台数据分析可知,现有的0-6岁学前儿童家长互联网成长平台多为企业搭建,以盈利为主要目的,提供优质用户体验为特色,但教育课程资源呈现不专业、不系统,公益性不足,成长性不够的特点。建议政府和教育部门应加强家长成长教育课程资源平台的质量和迭代的监控,加强优质国外家庭教育资源的译介,加强企业和非企业优势互补的合作,加强关注家长自身成长的教育课程资源建设。  相似文献

‘Nowhere that fits’: the dilemmas of school choice for parents of children with Statements of special educational needs (SEN) in England

Giving parents a choice with regard to their children's education has been central to the political discourse of school reform at least since the 1988 Education Reform Act (ERA). With regard to children with a Statement of special educational needs (SSEN), a plethora of policies and laws have given parents the right not only to choose a school, but also to appeal to decisions in the best interest of their children. Yet, despite the discourse of school choice, the implementation and practice of such reforms is neither assured nor simple. Participants in this study indicated that they have little choice of suitable provision and are having to compromise either the academic or the social aspects of their child's schooling. This article argues that for many parents whose children have a Statement of SEN, the choice of a school is often a dilemma, as ‘nowhere seems to fit’.  相似文献
