Creating and disseminating knowledge through research and teaching has long been regarded as the hallmark of the modern university. However, new university business models have called into question the ‘bundling’ of teaching and research, and sustained research on the relationship between teaching and research has found little evidence of an insoluble connection between the two activities. In this article, we explore the relationship between teaching and research from the perspective of universities’ institutional discourse. We use corpus-assisted discourse analysis to examine the relationship between research and teaching as presented in two sets of institutional texts currently influential in UK Higher Education: Research Excellence Framework environment statements and Teaching Excellence Framework provider submissions (a total of 2143 documents and 12,492,071 words). Our findings show that, while universities emphasise the value of research to their teaching, they do not always emphasise (or sometimes even decry) the influence of teaching on their research. We empirically evidence that, according to what universities themselves write in institutional texts, teaching and research are not always in a mutually beneficial entanglement, but often rather a one-way relationship in which research expertise and institutional prestige are used to bolster claims of teaching excellence. This has implications for the communication of both the vision and the purpose of a university in regulatory exercises and wider policy, but also speaks to the broader idea and practice of being a university in the twenty-first century.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 对比分析数据管理能力成熟度模型,为图书馆选择与应用数据管理能力成熟度模型提供参考方案。[方法/过程] 通过模型文本的研究,介绍各模型的结构。采用比较分析法从评价维度(功能域)的设置、模型的组织体系、评价标准与规则、可操作性、公开度等5个方面对7个数据管理能力成熟度模型进行评析。[结果/结论] 每个模型具有其特色功能。CMMI、DMM、DCAM和中国DCMM的评价维度较为全面,中国DCMM即中国-数据中心服务能力成熟度模型具有较强的操作性,且其定量与定性相结合的评价方法值得借鉴。研究数据管理的能力成熟度模型(雪城大学秦健教授团队)和研究数据管理能力成熟度模型(澳大利亚ANDS)考虑图书馆数据管理的实际情况,可作为首选模型。基于各模型的对比与评析结果,形成3种适应不同情境的图书馆选择与应用数据管理能力成熟度模型的方案。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 灰色预测法可有效处理情报研究中广泛存在的小样本数据,通过对灰色预测法在情报研究中的应用情况进行梳理,总结其在应用过程中存在的不足,为灰色预测法在情报研究中的进一步应用提供参考。[方法/过程] 通过综述情报研究中涉及灰色预测法的相关文献,从数据选取、模型构建和解决的问题等方面对情报研究中灰色预测法的应用进行概述,总结当前情报研究中灰色预测法的应用所存在的问题,并提出改进建议。[结果/结论] 在方法应用上,已有研究主要采用数列灰预测,且模型集中在单变量灰色预测模型,根据预测对象不同,灰色预测法已经在包括期刊分析、图书馆运行管理、热点主题分析及科研机构评价方面得到了很好的应用,未来可根据预测对象特点及研究目标尝试不同的灰色预测方法,扩宽灰色预测法在其他方面的情报研究问题中的应用。  相似文献

本文应用文献资料法、数据分析法,以欧洲足球五大联赛2017/18赛季经营状况为载体,从职业足球俱乐部内部经营和市场环境两方面讨论和研究治理做法和经验,从而指出五大联赛市场平稳有序和职业足球俱乐部可持续发展的经验。从我国足球国情出发,结合五大联赛市场治理经验,探索中超联赛市场治理创新,研究认为:创新治理主体结构,形成“三位一体”的治理格局,明确中超治理主体责任;创新职业足球市场治理体制,提高中超市场自治能力和水平;创新职业俱乐部内部治理体系,创造职业足球俱乐部健康可持续发展生态;创新治理价值体系,打造足球产业经营全产业链,创造中超市场盈利模式。  相似文献

[目的/意义]研究方法在学术研究中发挥着至关重要的作用。确认图书馆情报学领域主要的研究方法,并对它们进行了解熟悉,以在开展研究时能合理选择、灵活使用,确保研究质量。[方法/过程]对近2 000篇图书馆情报学领域的研究文献以及相关研究方法论文进行内容分析,在此基础上对研究方法的类分命名、图书馆情报学界主要的研究方法的确定、特点和使用注意事项进行介绍和讨论。[结果/结论]研究方法应以数据收集法而不是数据分析法命名。图书馆情报学领域常用的研究方法包括实验法、问卷法、理论研讨法、内容分析法、访谈法和书目计量法,每种方法都有各自的特点。因而在选择使用时,既应根据具体研究课题及研究方法之特性,也要考虑使用注意事项,并尽量在同一研究中采用两种或更多的方法,以扬长避短,更有效地展开研究。  相似文献

重大体育赛事的举办在一定程度上能推动承办城市转型发展,但也可能对当地经济产生某种不良影响,这主要源于对重大体育赛事与城市经济发展的内在规律和作用机制认识不够清晰。以2000-2017年22项具有全国影响力的重大体育赛事为基础,利用中国70个大中城市面板数据,采用双重差分法,分析重大体育赛事对城市经济发展的影响。发现:全样本数据下重大体育赛事的举办会促进城市第一产业向第二、第三产业发展;对比国内和国际赛事,重大体育赛事对第三产业的促进作用均显著高于第二产业;以1 085家上市公司数据为样本,采用事件研究法进行分析,发现不同行业利用重大体育赛事的窗口期存在显著差异。  相似文献

Science has greatly contributed to the advancement of technology and to the innovation of production processes and their applications. Cleaning products have become indispensable in today’s world, as personal and environmental hygiene is important to all societies worldwide. Such products are used in the home, in most work environments and in the industrial sectors. Most of the detergents on the market are synthesised from petrochemical products. However, the interest in reducing the use of products harmful to human health and the environment has led to the search for detergents formulated with natural, biodegradable surfactant components of biological (plant or microbiological) origin or chemically synthesised from natural raw materials usually referred to as green surfactants. William James (1919) characterises hypotheses as either live or dead. A hypothesis is live when it is taken into account as a ‘real possibility’. We follow James’ suggestion to not attribute intrinsic properties to hypotheses, but rather investigate how they came into being and look at the effects they generate. Expectations of digital technologies are a topic of vivid debate in the insurance industry. Before these expectations can become ‘live’, they have, in the first place, to be generated by market devices. We investigate how the reinsurance blogpost platform Open Minds functions as an ‘expectation generation device’ on the future of insurance markets. Combining Beckert’s work on the role of fictional expectations with the pragmatist turn in sociology of markets, we propose to study ‘expectation generation devices’, provoking expectations on economic markets. In our empirical analysis, we demonstrate the explicit fictional character of the Open Minds contributions, and analyse how a contained space of openness is generated to provoke expectations. We demonstrate how Open Minds can become live through circulation to other expectation generation sites in the insurance industry and beyond. We conclude by reflecting on the importance of expectation generation devices as a particular type of market devices.  相似文献

The article presents an analysis of 93 essays written in an upper secondary school context. The essays were collected in relation to a larger research project, which went on for 5 years in a Danish upper secondary school (2010–2015). The material represents both genders and the students are 15–17 years old. We deploy a theoretical framework taken from Norbert Elias’ notion on established-outsider relations [Elias, N., &; Scotson, J. L. (1994 [1965]). The established and the outsiders. London: SAGE] as well as his use of personal pronouns [Elias, N. (1978). What is sociology? London: Hutchinson, Elias, N. (2001). The society of individuals. New York: The Continuum International Publishing Group] in illustrating how people negotiate, position and navigate within figurational contexts [Elias, N. (1994 [1939]). The civilizing proces. Oxford: Blackwell.]. We do this in an effort to interpret how young people negotiate ‘we-I-relations’ when it comes to their sporting identity. Elias’ processual framework provides a tool for a much needed analysis of how young people continually orientate and develop their sense of selves. The web of human interdependencies and processes of change are key words when it comes to understanding the social practices and doings of the students’ constructions of self-steering. The emerging creative practices of digital collections are increasing in prominence thanks to the access to, and appeal of, data visualizations. Interactive data visualizations, such as a map, timeline, chart, graph, or artist’s rendering of data, enable users to pursue their own research interests within a collection and participate in new areas of research. Use of these data visualizations enhances the scope of the collection and enables a modern and diverse thematic collection to emerge. This article considers the question: Does the addition of data visualizations affect how users participate with a research collection? Impacts on collection development, application of user-centered design, and analysis of users’ exploratory strategies are discussed. Examples of data visualizations used in digital humanities projects and digital collections are presented as case studies.  相似文献
