风之塔:古希腊的风向标、日晷及水钟

摘    要:位于雅典卫城脚下的风之塔,将风向标、日晷和水力计时系统结合在一起,集中展示了古希腊科学技术与日常生活的互通。本文以风之塔自身的物质特征和实际功能为主要视角,结合文献资料和学者研究,对这一特殊的科学仪器进行考察和阐释。风之塔的设计和建造集合了天文、地理、数学、建筑、机械、工程等多种古代知识,并体现了古希腊知识体系的连续性。作为古希腊科学和技术的公共建筑载体,风之塔深刻嵌入到当时市民、商人、旅人的日常生活与智识生活之中,在今天也依然是进行科学技术史研究和科学教育的珍贵资源。

Tower of the Winds:Wind-vane, Sundials and Water Clock of Ancient Greek

Abstract:Located at the foot of the Acropolis, the Tower of the Winds, which was identified as a combination of wind vane, sundials and water clock, has showcased the interaction between knowledge, technological development and daily life in the late Hellenization period. Based on actual inspection, literature and research results made by scholars, this paper investigates and explains physical characteristics and practical functions of the Tower of the Winds. Its design and construction not only integrate the knowledge of astronomy, geography, mathematics, architecture, machinery and engineering, but also embody the continuity of the knowledge system of ancient Greece. As a public facility that carried the knowledge of ancient Greek science and technology, the Tower of the Winds was deeply embedded in the daily life and intellectual life of citizens, travelers and merchants at that time. And it is still a valuable resource for the study of the history of science and technology and science education today.
