| Abstract: | Today''s world is changing in various ways and at an unprecedented pace. A number of big trends, the so-called megatrends, can be identified worldwide and to a certain extent influence the life of everyone. Science, technology and innovation play an important role in this changing world. And science literacy is more important than ever before. As they are important actors in the field of public engagement with science and technology, science museums and science centres face a series of opportunities and challenges. Which role can they play to increase science literacy in our changing world? How can they become more relevant and enhance their impact with regard to an increase of science literacy? By analyzing the reality of globalization, demographic change, technological change, information explosion and sustainable development, this paper discusses the necessity of scientific literacy and the role of science museums and science centers in the changing world. |
