The “Mexican moment” is a term created by the international press, reflecting the importance of the economic reforms recently approved by congress. This article explores the facts and figures of the local publishing industry, especially the science, technical and medical or STM publishing, at a time of the industry’s crossroads in Mexico. Starting with a general background of the country and its economy, there is information on reading habits, the challenges of printed book distribution, the professional book market in Mexico, the increasing importance of e-books and finishing with an insight into the most important book fair in Spanish speaking language.  相似文献

Notes about the February 2016 PubWest Conference (Santa Fe, New Mexico) and a panel discussion about the relationship between academic publishing studies programs and publishers. PubWest is a regional publishers’ organization in the U.S., with Canadian members. The 2016 conference—“A Passion for Books”—included keynotes, intensive sessions, and panels on making publishing more profitable. Per Henningsgaard, Portland State University, chaired the panel “What Publishers and Academics Who Study Publishing Can Learn from Each Other.” Co-panelists: Sybil Nolan, University of Melbourne; David Emblidge, Emerson College. Henningsgaard gave an overview of publishing studies programs worldwide, what they teach and how they serve students interested in entering the publishing business. Emblidge presented a publishing studies student project from Emerson College—a book proposal for an illustrated nonfiction trade book. Nolan commented on broader research interests concerning the book business and its history, shared by academics in publishing studies. Similar conferences for publishing industry professionals and publishing studies courses at various universities are noted here, as is a research project aiming to build a comprehensive database for publishing studies teaching and learning materials.  相似文献

韩国出版业的显著特点是本土出版产品单一,主要依靠引进国外图书补充国内市场,因此中国图书一直受到广泛的关注。目前,中国图书所占韩国引进图书比例不高,有一定增长空间,缺乏市场判断是影响韩国出版业引进中国图书的重要原因。另一方面,专业翻译和中文编辑的紧缺也制约中国图书在韩国的发展。中国图书所贯彻的中国文化软实力“走出去”战略,要政策推行和市场自觉结合,把握韩国读者需求,才能建立产业国际化模式,进而释放中国图书的内在价值力量。  相似文献

盗版一直是制约我国出版业发展的瓶颈,图书盗版贯穿于出版产业链的各个环节,盗版者、出版社和作者三个利益主体之间在图书市场竞合,形成典型的三方博弈。政府的介入改变原有均衡,且政府在打击盗版力度上的差异会达到三种不同的均衡状态。只有当政府打击盗版的力度足够大时,图书盗版三方博弈才能达到最佳均衡。  相似文献

Citing the small number of bookstores in operation and a poor average annual book consumption among readers in Mexico, publishing industry professionals have long lamented the moribund state of the industry, while calling for more effective legislation to protect both publishers and booksellers and the creation of programs to promote reading among citizens of all ages. But in the last couple of years moves have been made to nurture the book industry and create greater awareness of the importance of reading as a vital cultural pastime, through training programs and by harnessing technological innovation, and while there is still much work to be done, publishers and booksellers alike are optimistic that they are making progress.  相似文献

电子书阅读器在2009年是一个相当热门的话题,以亚马逊的电子书阅读器Kindle为代表的阅读器产品也成为市场上抢手的产品。电子书阅读器产业的发展也带动了真正的电子图书个人消费的增长,使得电子图书从B2B市场开始走向B2C市场,从而推动了整个出版产业的数字化进程。文章介绍了电子书阅读器的概念、技术与历史,回顾了2009年整个产业发展的进程,也分析了电子书阅读器与电子书内容相关联的商务模式和博弈双方的互相促进作用。同时评论了国内外图书馆对电子书阅读器的相关应用。最后本文指出电子书阅读器起到了连接传统出版与数字出版、传统阅读与数字阅读以及纸质社会与无纸化社会的桥梁的作用,作为深受影响的图书馆行业应该做好迎接未来的准备。  相似文献

In the Greek publishing industry, tradition and the desire for innovation go hand in hand. The industry is influenced by European developments in publishing and bookselling in terms of book promotion methods, the role of chain bookstores and the impact of information technology. Greece shares the features of other small book markets in Europe, whilst retaining the individuality defined by the Greek language and the country’s cultural and social conditions. This article provides an overview of the publishing industry in Greece through a review of the relevant literature and the available statistics. This is the only English language summary report on the major and rapid developments that have taken place in China’s book publishing industry during 2010. The key companies and individuals who have been the change agents are presented in context of the developments in traditional and digital book publishing. The transition to capital investment and shares sold in the major Chinese stock markets is described including specific examples of this completely new business practice. The further dramatic growth of the mobile phone market with related information delivery for publishers is presented with financial data for the past, present and future trends for the installed base. The new roles of the General Administration for Press and Publications (GAPP) is described in relation to the reorganization of smaller publishing companies into groups with outside capital investments. Also, the role of GAPP in relation to the new requirements of copyright for digital and electronic publishing is covered. Very interesting is the emergence of three major players in e-commerce selling both consumer products and books as a form of online department stores. Finally, the emergence of Chinese language publishing as a regional language including the mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is a welcome new development.  相似文献

Little is known about the publishing industry and the cultural complexities of Vietnam and, therefore, this article provides a summary of the essential information and related data on the demographics of the country. The development of the publishing industry is traced from 1945 before the unification of North and South Vietnam in 1975 to the present status. The role of the book publishing industry is examined in relation to television and radio media. True European integration cannot occur without developing a common cultural base that preserves diversity. An analysis of the present European publishing market and the involvement to date of the European Community in publishing sheds light on the likely impact of European unity on the industry. The book is the main force of European culture, and European publishing is healthy. To protect and enhance this vitality, the European Community must promote coordination with regard to author/publisher relations, adaptation of book distribution channels, book pricing, taxation, libraries, promotion of reading, foreign trade, control of illicit reprography, and development of information and research relevant to publishing and the book. Germán Sánchez Ruipérez is founder, chairman and CEO of Grupo Anaya and CEO of America Publishing Group. To succeed in a period of change, German book publishers need to adopt innovations, e.g., implement e-books into their product portfolio. Yet, in the book industry, the adoption of new technologies is not commonplace: Despite being the second biggest book market worldwide, only 1.2 % of all published books in Germany are available as e-books. This problem leads us to investigate the factors that determine whether publishing companies decide in favor or against entering the e-book market. Based on a standardized survey of more than 240 German publishing houses, barriers to innovation adoption are examined from a micro, meso and macro perspective. Our main findings show that individual characteristics of management and the company’s corporate culture strongly predict adoption. Also, organizational communication seems to be critical. Taking this into account, the key resource to enable innovation seems to be information underlining the necessity of communities of practice.  相似文献
