Parents are significant contributors to the development of their children. They are the primary caretakers, managers, behavior models, disciplinarians, and agents of socialization and change for their children. It is accepted that parents can be trained as effective teachers of their children with disabilities. In Turkey, there are very limited opportunities, services, schools, parent education and support services for children with disabilities and their parents. Therefore, we have been carrying out studies to contribute to the understanding of the parents, specifically, on how a child with a disability affects their life and how they can be trained to become co-teachers and co-therapists. The time has come for closer coordination between secular postgraduate education in counseling and counselor training of clergymen under religious auspices. Secular and religious educational objectives for competent counselors are similar—both desire to train individuals who can meet the needs of other people. Any uniqueness that may belong to the clergyman as a counselor lies within the context of competent counseling, not outside of it. If people's needs for counseling are to be more fully met there must be a new effort toward coordination. If such coordination can be effected, both education and religion will be enriched. Action can begin at the local level in practical ways.  相似文献

Although the establishment of the Free Trade Pact between Canada and the US in 1989 was thought to be a solution to foreseeable economic difficulties in Canada, the reality is that North America is in an economic recession at the present time. Economists and politicians grasp at every positive economic indicator that shows the slightest trend upward, but unemployment stands at an average of 14% across the country. Despite a downturn in economic activity, Canadian engineering services captured about 8% of the international design market, with the US being the single largest market segment [l]. In view of the development of more global markets for engineering services, it is important that Canadian engineers be trained to be competitive in other world markets, i.e. in Europe and Pacific Rim countries. This paper outlines the professional and educational systems in Canada relative to the training of engineers but centres on the training of civil engineers at the University of New Brunswick and the evolution of the civil engineering programme over a period of 40 years from 1952 to 1992.  相似文献

Recognition at the full professional level of engineers coming from two different countries with totally different systems is a very difficult task. However, in the context of globalization of all human activities, particularly engineering services, it is essential that well-developed countries take very serious efforts using an open-minded approach to establish the parameters that will permit the ultimate objective of international recognition to be achieved. While there are many ways to move toward this objective, one recognized method of making very important steps is certainly the signature of mutual recognition agreements by major players in the trade of engineering services. In this context, this paper presents the features of a bilateral agreement that has been signed between France and Canada for the recognition of engineers at the full professional level from both countries. This agreement is the first of its kind for Canada. Many features of the agreement are worthy of note for others trying to identify the parameters to achieve an agreement between two countries having very different systems. How this success was achieved is explained, giving full attention to those factors that contributed to the conclusion of this agreement.  相似文献

Across the world countries are advocating the education of children and young people with disabilities in mainstream schools. There is also increasing interest in developing effective coordination of the specialist services pupils with disabilities receive from different agencies. This is accompanied by growing recognition that such care coordination can positively influence the experience of inclusion for children and their families. However, while the literature of care coordination generally includes education as a core provider, there is little evidence on involvement of education professionals and the outcomes for children and schools. These issues are addressed by the findings reported here on the role of key workers in care coordination and their relationship with schools. The findings draw on interviews with professionals from seven key worker services across England and Wales, parents and carers who were recipients of these services and teachers in schools serving children supported by key workers. These interviews are part of a wider multi‐method study exploring the effectiveness and costs of different models of key worker services for disabled children. The data reveal the range of education and school issues addressed by key workers and the factors influencing their work with teachers. The benefits for children, families and schools of key worker involvement are identified and the implications for schools explored. Consideration is also given to the advantages and disadvantages of teachers themselves taking on the role of key workers. It is argued that key workers can improve home–school relationships, facilitate the contribution of teachers in inter‐agency working, enable mainstream schools to better meet the individual needs of pupils with disabilities and improve their inclusive practice.  相似文献

Recent studies indicate particularly high incidence rates of bulimia nervosa among college students. In this paper the special need to services to identity, treat and prevent bulimia nervosa on college campuses is discussed. Eight general principles about the nature of bulimia, its prevalence in society, and sociocultural factors which promote the disorder are presented to help guide the development of effective services. Potential resources available on campus that can provide needed services are identified along with target groups toward which the services should be directed. Included among the resources are the faculty, residence hall personnal, and medical and mental health professionals on the staff. The need for educational, referral, and support services as well as treatment services is emphasized. The benefits of a campus committee to oversee the development and coordination of campus services are also discussed.  相似文献

This article describes a therapeutic program for child abusive parents that is psychoeducationally based and is conducted through home visits by trained behavioral interventionists. The immediate goals of the intervention are to teach abusive parents effective child management procedures based on social learning therapy and to modify faulty or excessive expectations these parents have toward the behavior of their children. The general model is discussed as well as criteria for selection of parents for home intervention services, the differences between home intervention with abusive and non-abusive parents and the procedures used in home intervention services. FINLAND is a small North‐European country with a population of about 5 million. It has historical ties with Sweden and Russia. Consequently, there are two official languages in the country: Finnish and Swedish. The education system is based on a 9‐year comprehensive school. Education is compulsory for all children between the ages of 7 and 16. Health and welfare services for children with disabilities are mainly provided within the regular services but special services are ensured by special laws. Special education services are provided at every level of education and learning environment modifications range from remedial education to individual instruction at home. In the comprehensive school about 16% of all pupils receive special education in some form. The majority of special pupils receive part‐time special education by resource room teachers. Individual and group integration has increased strongly during the last decade and more emphasis is placed in the development of individual special education programming.  相似文献

This article reviews the primary concepts underlying the current movement toward the provision of comprehensive school-linked services for children and families in low-income communities and the implications of this movement for school psychologists. The development of collaborative partnerships involving schools, public, and community-based agencies is an attempt to increase the availability and accessibility of needed services to children and families. The adoption of collaborative governance and a case management system is intended to offer an alternative to the proliferation of separate categorical programs and the associated lack of coordination among programs. The hope is to emphasize prevention and efficient early intervention. Collaborative efforts can provide an opportunity for role expansion among school psychologists. This possibility is discussed within a consultation model of service delivery that is consistent with the collaborative nature of school-linked services and with the preventive stance that orginated them. School psychologists are in a position to contribute to team consultation, case management, and needs assessment. Implications for training are drawn.  相似文献

Abstract

The prevalence of on-campus psychological services throughout the country attests to the sympathetic support they receive from key constituencies-faculties, administrators, students, and boards of governors-at their respective institutions. However, on all college campuses there are also normative institutional resistances to the delivery of psychological services with which such programs must continually contend. 从我国社区养老服务发展的现状来看,我国经济欠发达城市在社区养老服务方面普遍存在着服务基础设施不足、服务的内容单一、养老服务水平与质量低下、专业工作人员与志愿服务人员缺乏和老年人自身的参与度低等问题。以开封市社区养老服务为例,“他助”(即政府、社会和家庭)与“自助”(社区和老年人自身)的社区养老服务思路可以对完善我国经济欠发达地区社区养老服务提供帮助。  相似文献

The purpose of this qualitative study is to understand how educational scaffolding may explain changing patterns of student success in mathematics in the era of developmental education (DE or remediation) reform in Florida College System (FCS) institutions. Specifically, we apply the concept of scaffolding to underprepared FCS students who are at risk of dropping out or failing gateway courses (the first credit-bearing college-level class in a course sequence) because they lack the academic skills necessary to succeed in college-level coursework, particularly in mathematics. We present data from focus groups conducted at 10 FCS institutions, suggesting that a reduction of scaffolding in math remediation occurred in the areas of course sequencing, instruction, and coordination with academic support services following state-level policy changes. In light of these findings, we offer a discussion of practical recommendations for college administrators related to academic advising, instructional strategies in DE courses, coordination between developmental and college-level instructors, student success courses, and the integration of DE instruction with academic support. We also suggest directions for continued research on the effects of policy changes in the FCS and DE reform efforts across the country.  相似文献

Over 6 million older Americans are hearing impaired. Many of them are facing the decision to seek help through hearing aids. Once the decision has been made and amplification is obtained, a program of aural rehabiliation can facilitate adjustment to the hearing aid and foster more successful communication. Unfortunately, the number of professionals trained to provide rehabilitative services to hearing‐impaired persons are few relative to the number of persons who need these services. This paper describes a model for delivering aural rehabiliation services through providers trained by audiologists certified by the American Speech‐Language‐Hearing Association. After being trained, staff at senior centers, nursing homes, and state or local agencies who deal with either hearing impairment or aging could serve as program providers. The model program consists of four phases: education, desensitization, rehabilitation strategies, and responsibility training.  相似文献
