Today's academic librarian is frequently called upon to function as a subject specialist, with or without advanced degrees in other disciplines. One method of monitoring trends within a given field is to study its literature; another is to attend conferences in the discipline. Discipline-specific conference attendance by academic librarians provides opportunities to interact with faculty in their disciplines that result in an increased communication with faculty, improved reference expertise, and more focused collection development. This paper describes the Texas A&M University Libraries' support for conference attendance and examples of the resulting benefits. 相似文献

In this article, guest writer Ruth Jenkins from Berkshire Heathcare Foundation Trust reflects on two conferences she attended in 2014, LILAC and SLA. Through the process of reflection, she considers the benefits that attending conferences can have to library and information professionals in the health sector. In particular, she discusses the opportunities and areas for learning and professional development that conferences can offer including evidence‐based practice and current awareness, gaining new knowledge and objectivity, and networking and the unexpected benefits of conferences. 会议文献是重要的信息资源,但当前图书馆对其管理比较分散,资源建设缺乏系统性。对CPCI收录会议数据展开分析以了解其出版特点,结果发现：80％以上的会议文献在会议召开后两年内出版;会议文献在“工程技术”和“医药卫生”领域数量较多;连续性会议名称非常不规范等。在此基础上,对会议文献资源建设现状、难点进行了分析,并提出了有针对性的资源建设策略。 相似文献

With conference season upon us, consideration is given to the importance of subject‐specific and library association conferences. The biennial Health Libraries Group (HLG) conference meets both these criteria and takes place in Greater Manchester in July. The conference provides an opportunity for peer‐to‐peer learning, identifying new trends and professional rejuvenation. An open invitation is given to attend the Health Information and Libraries Journal‘Writing for Publication’ workshop at the HLG conference. An overview of three bursaries available from the Health Libraries Group and Library and Information Research, both groups of the UK Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) is provided. [目的/意义] 回顾五届欧洲信息素养教育大会（ECIL）,为国内同行了解全球信息素养教育研究现状和未来发展趋势提供参考与借鉴。[方法/过程] 通过参加ECIL的亲身感受并结合历届会议资料与相关论文分析,从会议概况、与会国家分布、会议主题和研究热点、会议交流形式以及中国学者与会情况5个方面对会议进行归纳总结,探讨全球信息素养教育的最新进展以及发展方向。[结果/结论] ECIL平台一定程度上反映了全球信息素养教育的发展趋势,即聚焦信息素养教育的实践应用、拓展信息素养教育的研究领域、延伸信息素养的相关概念、丰富信息素养教育的服务对象、创新信息素养教育的教学方法和手段。中国学者通过参加ECIL展示了中国高校和科研院所在信息素养教育领域的最新成果。最后,建议中国信息素养教育界在内容和形式两方面借鉴ECIL先进经验。 相似文献

The emergence of data intensive science and the establishment of data management mandates have motivated academic libraries to develop research data services (RDS) for their faculty and students. Here the results of two studies are reported: librarians' RDS practices in U.S. and Canadian academic research libraries, and the RDS-related library policies in those or similar libraries. Results show that RDS are currently not frequently employed in libraries, but many services are in the planning stages. Technical RDS are less common than informational RDS, RDS are performed more often for faculty than for students, and more library directors believe they offer opportunities for staff to develop RDS-related skills than the percentage of librarians who perceive such opportunities to be available. Librarians need opportunities to learn more about these services either on campus or through attendance at workshops and professional conferences. 相似文献

Communication is a practical discipline where the research has a potential to make profound and positive differences. The interaction that is allowed at conferences presents an opportunity for communication pedagogy, research, and service to transform in meaningful ways.
