本文是关于高校e-learning应用现状的调查研究。笔者以广东省16所高校为研究对象,采用焦点团体访谈法对来自上述高校的18位教师或教育技术从业人员进行了访谈,然后使用内容分析和现象解释学方法对访谈数据进行分析与讨论。研究结果表明,我国高校教师对e-learning的现状、概念、原理、方法和实践等还存在着片面或错误的认识,高校在实施e-learning的过程中也存在诸多误区。针对这些错误认识和应用误区,本文分析了其原因并提出了切实可行的解决方案。  相似文献

Since 1925, six reputational rankings of Ph.D.-granting English departments have been published. Though almost two-thirds of such departments are located at public institutions, most of the highest-ranked departments throughout these years have been at private universities. In addition, of those highly ranked English departments in the most recent (1982) ranking that ranked higher than their universities, overall, most are private; of those highly ranked English departments that ranked lower than their universities, overall, all are public. There has been great stability since 1925 in the highest-ranked English departments, with few departments entering or leaving this group.  相似文献

As students move between universities on different continents, they are expected to adjust rapidly to the academic and cultural practices of their host university. Many of these students are higher educational professionals in their home country and on their return home they are faced with the challenge of how to fit back into – or whether to make changes in – their institution's established academic practices. I explored international PhD students' understanding of, and responses to, the perceived differences between academic cultures of host (UK) and home universities. Whereas some students regarded the changes made in how they conducted and wrote up educational research as temporary and strategic in order to pass the PhD course, others saw themselves as change agents. They were keen to transform academic practices once they returned home and were already actively working out politically and practically how to go about this. By reflecting on how educational research practices are changing and being influenced by the movement of academics between countries, I suggest how UK university departments can respond positively to the differing research practices in which international students engage in their home institutional contexts.  相似文献

The demand by people with disabilities to university education has been growing in recent years. A pilot study of five universities reviews their equity profiles and on‐the‐ground practices in relation to students with disabilities. Particular attention is paid to departments of Social Work which are postulated to contain the conditions under which disability issues in education might be recognised. The research suggests that there are major resource problems in meeting needs, exacerbated by bureaucratic conflict in government, and a limited willingness by resource‐pressed universities to plan effectively the recruitment and support of students with disabilities. Academic departments and their chairmen have long been a part of colleges and universities. A tendency toward more centralization as a result of state and federal requirements could threaten the status and loci of power within departments. The present study seeks information on the outlook of departmental chairmen in order to provide background information on what motivates chairmen and their outlook on roles required to be played.This study, which has 1,198 responses from chairmen in 38 state universities, focuses on the perception of chairmen on where major decisions are made (university, college, or departmental level), characteristics of departments by academic field, and selected personal attributes of chairmen. The implication is made that goals, duties, and satisfactions of chairmen should be given serious attention before the institution responds to external or internal pressures to restrict the decision-making process.  相似文献

We have created an inventory to characterize the teaching practices used in science and mathematics courses. This inventory can aid instructors and departments in reflecting on their teaching. It has been tested with several hundred university instructors and courses from mathematics and four science disciplines. Most instructors complete the inventory in 10 min or less, and the results allow meaningful comparisons of the teaching used for the different courses and instructors within a department and across different departments. We also show how the inventory results can be used to gauge the extent of use of research-based teaching practices, and we illustrate this with the inventory results for five departments. These results show the high degree of discrimination provided by the inventory, as well as its effectiveness in tracking the increase in the use of research-based teaching practices.  相似文献

University managers should be aware of the importance that efficiency has for their own universities, orientating their actions towards research and teaching excellence. This study estimates teaching and research efficiency of the different departments of a university and tests the complementariness versus trade‐off between them. The results obtained show high levels of efficiency for the departments analysed, which is important for budget allocation, as one of the main challenges faced by a university is the allocation of budgets to different departments. The results also support the trade‐off between teaching efficiency and research activity, the complementariness between teaching efficiency and research efficiency, between research efficiency and time deducted from teaching, as well as the complementariness between research efficiency and administration activity.  相似文献

Mr. Robert Mallet, chancellor (recteur) of the Academy of Paris, submitted to the Ministry of Education a plan for the creation of universities in the region of Paris. The Council of Ministers approved the design: there are now thirteen universities, seven of which are in Paris itself and four in the suburbs, while the remaining two are the institutions of Dauphine and Vincennes. It appears that none have more than 22,000 students (and several have considerably fewer). These thirteen universities comprise four elements: (a) complete Unités d' Etudes et de Recherches (UER), i.e., study and research departments, existing already since December 1968, and found only within the new universities; (b) UER departments resulting from a new split-off from older UERs which were too large, or indispensable to the running of several universities; (c)new UER departments created along with the new universities; (d)units of instruction. In these units, which were not planned by the Orientation Law and are not as autonomous as the UER departments, are assembled faculty members, professors, and assistants attached to other universities, who provide certain supplementary courses. …  相似文献

一专多能型辅导员自20世纪80年代以来成为高校政治辅导员发展的一大趋势。教育主管部门、各高校也日益注意到一专多能型辅导员队伍建设的重要性,在重视政治辅导员的一专多能对班级工作的促进作用的同时,更加关心政治辅导员一专多能素质的全面提高。为此,需要我们建立并完善政治辅导员专业学位制度、政治辅导员"双证书"制度、政治辅导员资格证书制度、政治辅导员培训制度、政治辅导员职务岗位聘任制度和政治辅导员公开选拔制度,以此来保障一专多能型辅导员队伍的建设与发展。  相似文献

This article briefly reviews the coverage of higher education in the pages of this journal since its inception. It reflects on the changing role of the academic journal during this period, on some of the related changes which have taken place in academia itself as well as changing fashions in the study of history of education. Its central arguments are that the ways in which the history of universities and higher education have been treated in History of Education are, at one and the same time, both a reflection of these developments and a commentary on them. It concludes with a call for new and wider approaches to the study of higher education which go well beyond the narrow institutional and national accounts which have dominated recent writing to reflect contemporary globalisation and the swiftly changing world in which we live now.  相似文献

Shifts in the labor market require adaptive responses on the part of formal organizations. Such organizational responses are shown in changes in recruitment strategies. This study examines how departments in comprehensive colleges and universities formulate their faculty recruitment strategies and set standards for new faculty personnel. Comprehensive institutions are neither research universities nor liberal arts colleges. Even though most offer graduate degrees at the master's level in such areas as teacher training and business programs, they are predominantly devoted to undergraduate education. Lacking strong ties to distinctive beliefs and identities, these institutions have become increasingly vulnerable to environmental changes.Based on extensive fieldwork at four institutions, this paper focuses on twenty faculty searches conducted over a period of substantial changes in academic labor markets. Several common search episodes are identified.The general pattern of recruitment strategies is shaped by the rule of status competition in a prestige hierarchy: less prestigious organizations compete for institutional legitimacy by adopting the norms of more prestigious organizations. Search-related practices in these comprehensive institutions are, therefore, organized around the institutional rituals that conform to the standards of more prestigious research universities and elite liberal arts colleges. Search and recruitment practices often reflect a ritualized form of preoccupation with credentials, specialities, and procedures. Despite their initial emphasis on specific goals, those involved in the search were less concerned about search outcomes than about processes.  相似文献

This paper investigates how differences in resource endowments of universities shape variation in their response to regulatory pressures. Earlier research on higher education institutions tends to conceive regulatory rules as the primary basis of action and does not attend to differences in the salient characteristics of universities. This paper is based on the premise that satisfying regulatory demands requires resources that are compatible with these demands, making resource endowments of universities a potentially significant source of variation in their responses to regulatory pressures. We empirically investigate the relationship between human resource characteristics of economics, management, and political science departments of Turkish universities and how these departments responded to the intensifying regulatory pressure to publish more in indexed journals. Findings reveal that departments which predominantly employ researchers trained in North American universities published significantly more in indexed journals between 2000 and 2008. These departments are better endowed with respect to resources that are necessary for publishing in indexed journals, most importantly knowledge of theory, methodology, and style sought by indexed journals. The paper shows that attending to differences in resource endowments of universities as well as regulatory goals and tools facilitates understanding of how regulation-driven processes unfold.  相似文献
