This article describes initiatives undertaken by one academic medical library to support patrons using handheld mobile devices. These initiatives included efforts to assist patrons with installation and use of mobile information resources, educate librarians regarding content and navigation of mobile apps and websites, and leverage tools to promote the library in a mobile environment.  相似文献

This article covers the use of Quick Response (QR) codes to provide instant mobile access to information, digital collections, educational offerings, library website, subject guides, text messages, videos, and library personnel. The array of uses and the value of using QR codes to push customized information to patrons are explained. A case is developed for using QR codes for mobile delivery of customized information to patrons. ABSTRACT

Library patrons are adopting mobile devices for personal and other uses. The ubiquity of mobile devices will lead to changes in how and where learning and education happens. Libraries have wanted to become ubiquitous by making resources and services available anywhere, anytime. Reference librarians can use mobile devices and applications to include services in mobile learning environments. Challenges to libraries include uncertainty about which technologies to adopt in a rapidly changing technology landscape, the cost of technology adoption, staffing for 24–7, diversity of needs and preferences among library patrons, and the need to offer stable, consistent services. The combination of mobile librarians, mobile patrons, and mobile content provides an opportunity to move closer to the ideal of the ubiquitous library.

[目的/意义]移动图书馆的发展使得公众随时随地享受图书馆公共馆藏资源成为可能.基于用户角度分析影响移动图书馆用户使用行为意愿的因素,对推动移动图书馆的应用可起到重要作用.[方法/过程]鉴于用户对移动图书馆的使用意愿受到多方面因素的影响,以整合式技术接受与使用模型理论为基础,引入感知风险、信息质量、服务质量3个变量,构建出6个变量的移动图书馆用户使用行为意愿影响因素理论模型,采用实证研究方法,通过结构方程模型探究6种因素对用户使用行为意愿的影响作用.[结果/结论]数据分析表明,感知风险变量对移动图书馆用户使用意愿产生负向影响,绩效期望、信息质量和服务质量3个变量对移动图书馆用户使用意愿产生正向影响,而努力期望和社会影响两个影响因素显著性未达到标准.  相似文献

通过分类、分层随机抽样的方式对北京、南京、上海、杭州、深圳等地用户对图书馆移动信息服务需求进行调查分析,结果表明:信息内容需求方面,图书馆用户对专业性阅读和休闲性阅读都有需求,对专业性阅读需求程度高于休闲性阅读,内容载体形式以图书、期刊和报纸为主;在信息服务需求方面,目前用户最需要的移动终端是手机,对图书馆开展个性化服务的需求很强烈。进而提出了图书馆移动信息服务的内容模式、技术模式和服务策略。  相似文献

Veterans are a unique population that can be found in libraries across the United States. Libraries of all types are developing new approaches to the veterans in their patron populations in the wake of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This study identifies several common strategies that libraries, especially public and academic libraries, are employing to support their patrons who are veterans, as well as distinctions in strategy according to library type. Public libraries in Kenya were established with the aim of providing information services to the general public. The Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) is responsible for providing services through its library network across the country. In the past, to combat illiteracy, the library launched various initiatives, including mobile services and community libraries. The public libraries are in a transition period of moving from paper library services to incorporate modern digital technologies for information access. Summary

Problem/difficult patron incidents that occur in libraries are on the rise. Library administrators and library employees have attempted to decrease the number of incidents by providing staff training and formulating policies and rules to control the situation. The purpose of this article is to share the proactive steps that the Education and Behavioral Sciences Library, Penn State University Libraries, took to prevent or decrease the incidences of difficult patrons as the library prepares to relocate. The focus was on assisting the frontline staff members, who work on the reference desk, to acquire the competencies they need to provide consistent quality reference services to patrons, and to reduce incidences of unsatisfied, difficult, and problem patrons.  相似文献

[目的/意义]总结国内外移动图书馆用户体验研究现状,分析移动图书馆用户体验研究取得的成果及存在的不足,对未来的研究内容进行展望。[方法/过程]通过对文献内容分析,从移动图书馆用户体验内涵及要素研究、移动图书馆用户体验模型研究、移动图书馆用户体验测评研究和移动图书馆用户体验提升研究4个方面对当前研究成果进行梳理。[结果/结论]对未来的研究建议与展望:在理论方面,完善移动图书馆用户体验理论体系,注重多学科交叉研究和探索新的用户体验研究方向;在实践方面,探究多元化研究方法,加强可持续化研究和深化用户体验提升研究。  相似文献

The school librarian is a manager — despite what others and they themselves might believe. The school library management experience resembles that of the public, special, and academic library. There are common issues of self-sufficiency, conflicting roles, problematic patrons, and lack of respect. School library managers face unique challenges as well. They often have unusually constricted budgets, dubious personnel support, little time to plan, and facilities that are routinely co-opted for other purposes. They are expected to be technology experts and teach on a regular basis. They act as “loco parentis” for their patrons. They must not just promote their services but advocate for their existence. Graduate library schools often offer few courses in school library management for a variety of, usually economic, reasons. Traditional management courses should be supplemented by in-the-field experience and observation as well as input from practicing school librarians. In conclusion, I offer a wish list of school library management tips from my 30+ years of experience.  相似文献

用户体验直接影响到用户对移动图书馆平台的接受程度和满意程度.在分析移动图书馆平台用户体验内涵的基础上, 提出一个量化移动图书馆平台用户体验的指标体系, 并通过测试任务, 分析用户对移动图书馆平台现有功能的用户体验现状.结果表明:用户对移动图书馆平台的总体评价是积极的, 但在技术、交互方面的体验评价不高;同时, 不同使用时间的用户的具体体验感受也存在一定的差异.进而有针对性地提出移动图书馆平台的发展建议:注重各个服务模块之间的融合, 以提高整体用户体验, 尤其是要着力提高用户与平台之间的交互体验.  相似文献
