Large collections of digital video are increasingly accessible. The large volume and range of available video demands search tools that allow people to browse and query easily and to quickly make sense of the videos behind the result sets. This study focused on the usefulness of several multimedia surrogates, in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. Three surrogates were evaluated and compared: a storyboard, a 7-second segment, and a fast forward. Thirty-six experienced users of digital video conducted searches on each of four systems: three incorporated one of the surrogates each, and the fourth made all three surrogates available. Participants judged the relevance of at least 10 items for each search based on the surrogate(s) available, then re-judged the relevance of two of those items based on viewing the full video. Transaction logs and post-search and post-session questionnaires provided data on user interactions, including relevance judgments, and user perceptions. All of the surrogates provided a basis for accurate relevance judgments, though they varied (in expected ways) in terms of their efficiency. User perceptions favored the system with all three surrogates available, even though it took longer to use; they found it easier to learn and easier to use, and it gave them more confidence in their judgments. Based on these results, we can conclude that it's important for digital video collections to provide multiple surrogates, each providing a different view of the video.  相似文献

In this paper, we present ViGOR (Video Grouping, Organisation and Recommendation), an exploratory video retrieval system. Exploratory video retrieval tasks are hampered by the lack of semantics associated to video and the overwhelming amount of video items stored in these types of collections (e.g. YouTube, MSN video, etc.). In order to help facilitate these exploratory video search tasks we present a system that utilises two complementary approaches: the first a new search paradigm that allows the semantic grouping of videos and the second the exploitation of past usage history in order to provide video recommendations. We present two types of recommendation techniques adapted to the grouping search paradigm: the first is a global recommendation, which couples the multi-faceted nature of explorative video retrieval tasks with the current user need of information in order to provide recommendations, and second is a local recommendation, which exploits the organisational features of ViGOR in order to provide more localised recommendations based on a specific aspect of the user task. Two user evaluations were carried out in order to (1) validate the new search paradigm provided by ViGOR, characterised by the grouping functionalities and (2) evaluate the usefulness of the proposed recommendation approaches when integrated into ViGOR. The results of our evaluations show (1) that the grouping, organisational and recommendation functionalities can result in an improvement in the users’ search performance without adversely impacting their perceptions of the system and (2) that both recommendation approaches are relevant to the users at different stages of their search, showing the importance of using multi-faceted recommendations for video retrieval systems and also illustrating the many uses of collaborative recommendations for exploratory video search tasks.  相似文献

With the rapid development of digital equipment and the continuous upgrading of online media, a growing number of people are willing to post videos on the web to share their daily lives (Jelodar, Paulius, & Sun, 2019). Generally, not all video segments are popular with audiences, some of which may be boring. If we can predict which segment in a newly generated video stream would be popular, the audiences can only enjoy this segment rather than watch the whole video to find the funny point. And if we can predict the emotions that the audiences would induce when they watch a video, this must be helpful for video analysis and for guiding the video-makers to improve their videos. In recent years, crowd-sourced time-sync video comments have emerged worldwide, supporting further research on temporal video labeling. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to achieve the following goal: Predicting which segment in a newly generated video stream (hasn’t been commented with the time-sync comments) will be popular among the audiences. At last, experimental results on real-world data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and justify the idea of predicting the popularities of segments in a video exploiting crowd-sourced time-sync comments as a bridge to analyze videos.  相似文献

There are a number of multimedia tasks and environments that can be collaborative in nature and involve contributions from more than one individual. Examples of such tasks include organising photographs or videos from multiple people from a large event, students working together to complete a class project, or artists and/or animators working on a production. Despite this, current state of the art applications that have been created to assist in multimedia search and organisation focus on a single user searching alone and do not take into consideration the collaborative nature of a large number of multimedia tasks. The limited work in collaborative search for multimedia applications has concentrated mostly on synchronous, and quite often co-located, collaboration between persons. However, these collaborative scenarios are not always practical or feasible. In order to overcome these shortcomings we have created an innovative system for online video search, which provides mechanisms for groups of users to collaborate both asynchronously and remotely on video search tasks. In order to evaluate our system an user evaluation was conducted. This evaluation simulated multiple conditions and scenarios for collaboration, varying on awareness, division of labour, sense making and persistence. The outcome of this evaluation demonstrates the benefit and usability of our system for asynchronous and remote collaboration between users. In addition the results of this evaluation provide a comparison between implicit and explicit collaboration in the same search system.  相似文献

The recent significant growth of social media has brought the attention of researchers toward monitoring the enormous amount of streaming data using real-time approaches. This data may appear in different forms like streaming text, images, audio, videos, etc. In this paper, we address the problem of deciding the appropriateness of streaming videos with the help of on-demand crowdsourcing. We propose a novel crowd-powered model ViSSa, which is an open crowdsourcing platform that helps to automatically detect appropriateness of the videos getting uploaded online through employing the viewers of existing videos. The proposed model presents a unique approach of not only identifying unsafe videos but also detecting the portion of inappropriateness (in terms of platform’s vulnerabilities). Our experiments with 47 crowd contributors demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. On the designed ViSSa platform, 18 safe videos are initially posted. After getting access, 20 new videos are added by different users. These videos are assessed (and marked as safe or unsafe) by users and finally with judgment analysis a consensus judgment is obtained. The approach detects the unsafe videos with high accuracy (95%) and point out the portion of inappropriateness. Interestingly, changing the mode of video segment allocation (homogeneous and heterogeneous) is found to have a significant impact on the viewers’ feedback. However, the proposed approach performs consistently well in different modes of viewing (with varying diversity of opinions), and with any arbitrary video size and type. The users are found to be motivated by their sense of responsibility. This paper also highlights the importance of identifying spammers through such models.  相似文献

Online video recommender systems help users find videos suitable for their preferences. However, they have difficulty in identifying dynamic user preferences. In this study, we propose a new recommendation procedure using changes of users’ facial expressions captured every moment. Facial expressions portray the users’ actual emotions about videos. We can utilize them to discover dynamic user preferences. Further, because the proposed procedure does not rely on historical rating or purchase records, it properly addresses the new user problem, that is, the difficulty in recommending products to users whose past rating or purchase records are not available. To validate the recommendation procedure, we conducted experiments with footwear commercial videos. Experiment results show that the proposed procedure outperforms benchmark systems including a random recommendation, an average rating approach, and a typical collaborative filtering approach for recommendation to both new and existing users. From the results, we conclude that facial expressions are a viable element in recommendation.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate videos as potential triggers of behavior. Therefore, we applied the theories of triggers and media richness to learn about the triggering efficiency of mobile marketing videos on participants’ behavioral intentions. The experiment involved three distinct test groups, each comprising 41 student participants. From the perspective of media richness theory, we observed that the different kinds of videos had quite similar effects in terms of triggering behavioral changes. However, the mechanisms explaining why triggers were present differed for each video. Further, the results reveal that the consumer's position in the information search process was the most significant reason for the triggering of any kind of effect. In addition, the instructionally designed videos were able to exert an affective triggering effect: the more participants liked the video, the more it affected their participation intention and recall scores. This study extends the media richness research by demonstrating that the effects of media richness can vary within technically similar videos, as they form different logical connections among non-verbal visual cues related to a video's storyline.  相似文献

We propose in this paper an architecture for near-duplicate video detection based on: (i) index and query signature based structures integrating temporal and perceptual visual features and (ii) a matching framework computing the logical inference between index and query documents. As far as indexing is concerned, instead of concatenating low-level visual features in high-dimensional spaces which results in curse of dimensionality and redundancy issues, we adopt a perceptual symbolic representation based on color and texture concepts. For matching, we propose to instantiate a retrieval model based on logical inference through the coupling of an N-gram sliding window process and theoretically-sound lattice-based structures. The techniques we cover are robust and insensitive to general video editing and/or degradation, making it ideal for re-broadcasted video search. Experiments are carried out on large quantities of video data collected from the TRECVID 02, 03 and 04 collections and real-world video broadcasts recorded from two German TV stations. An empirical comparison over two state-of-the-art dynamic programming techniques is encouraging and demonstrates the advantage and feasibility of our method.  相似文献

Library networks have developed transaction processing software as automation tools for technical and public services, based on generic library models. Transaction processing systems are shown to be a flexible type of design, allowing users to introduce modifications which aid their individual objectives: 92% of user institutions reported they made local modifications to standard OCLC practices and procedures. These findings are discussed in terms of network models for decision making in software use; methodology of software user studies; and diffusion of innovation processes in post-implementation stages of transaction processing software.  相似文献

An integrated information retrieval system generally contains multiple databases that are inconsistent in terms of their content and indexing. This paper proposes a rough set-based transfer (RST) model for integration of the concepts of document databases using various indexing languages, so that users can search through the multiple databases using any of the current indexing languages. The RST model aims to effectively create meaningful transfer relations between the terms of two indexing languages, provided a number of documents are indexed with them in parallel. In our experiment, the indexing concepts of two databases respectively using the Thesaurus of Social Science (IZ) and the Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) are integrated by means of the RST model. Finally, this paper compares the results achieved with a cross-concordance method, a conditional probability based method and the RST model.  相似文献

This paper presents the trends of searching queries by users from peer-to-peer (P2P) networks over an 18-month period from July 2002 to January 2004. Four data sets of search queries collected from Gnutella were studied to describe the searching trends. Major findings include (1) the percentage of duplicate queries ranging from 34% to 68% of total queries; (2) an increase in non-English queries; (3) an approximately half of searching queries specified for video or audio file types; (4) the stop word “the” accounting for one-third of total stop words; (5) the shift of queries from audio to video; and (6) P2P users demanding for timely entertainment and porn materials. Based on the findings, it is worthwhile for P2P developers to consider (1) system design that allows effective searching using multiple languages; and (2) techniques that eliminate stop words for faster searching.  相似文献

[研究目的]从视频弹幕的视角出发,挖掘网络舆情事件的话题漂移规律,提升网络舆情事件的视频情感检索精度。[研究方法]通过对视频弹幕进行主题与情感分析,提升网络舆情事件在线监测精准度,并在此基础上提出并构建弹幕迁移指数,建立一种基于弹幕迁移指数的情感监测方法,该方法首先基于BTM主题模型抽取视频弹幕的话题信息,并基于情感词典与颜文字词典计算不同时间窗口下的话题情感类别与情感强度,建立面向视频弹幕的网络舆情事件监测模型,再从话题内容的变化与视频兴趣热度两个角度构建话题迁移指数,并利用话题的情感强度变化,构建情感迁移指数。最终,基于话题迁移指数与情感迁移指数,得到加权后的弹幕迁移指数,实现网络舆情事件的在线监测。[研究结论]通过视频弹幕社区的真实数据,从逻辑层面验证了本模型的合理性,结果表明该方法能够较为准确地识别网络舆情事件迁移的关键时间窗口,为实现视频分享平台的情感可视化提供了切实可行的理论探索。  相似文献
