The content of the term software tools (STs) is discussed in the light of the current development trends in information and communication technologies. The list of possible classification areas of STs is presented that is critical to binding scientific and technical information (STI) to these areas. The main categories of objective representation of STs, available sources of STI on STs, and peculiarities of obtaining (retrieving) STI from these sources are characterized. A 28-group classification of STI about STs by contents (subject matter) is suggested. The areas where it is possible to utilize the suggested classification systems for describing and grouping STI units in databases and databanks are specified.  相似文献

Starting slowly in the middle of the seventeenth century, the number of scientific and technical periodicals had reached a total of ouer 1,000 titles by 1790. To deal with them as a body of literature and to provide an effectiue framework upon which to construct generalizations concerning them, it is desirable and necessary to develop a classification of the formats in which they tended to appear. Three classifications of scientific periodicals are examined: one that originated at the turn of the nineteenth century, another that appeared in 1839, and Fielding H. Garrison's classification of 1934. Various formats in the period before 1790, including those dealing with society publications, academic literature, and the essays resulting from the awarding ofprizes by scientific societies, are eramined in the light of the classification in which they appeared, and some of the issues they raise are discussed. It is fairly clear, for instance, that by the end of the eighteenth century the periodical has still not been segregated in bibliographic access and treatment, either as a vehicle for or as a repository of scientific information. Miscellaneous writings of indiuidual or multiple authors are in many cases regarded in the same light, and are sometimes indistinguishable from titles that can be regarded as bonafide periodicals. The basic differentiation to be made is that between an original and a derivative literature, without begging the question of originality in the conceptual sense. Borrowing, translating, extracting, and reprinting were so prevalent that distinctions are difficult to make in this early period. A classification of formats (types of component unit publications) is offered derived from an analysis of some of the titles on the lists, and some of the other facets under which the scientific and technical periodical of this era should be examined are listed.  相似文献

Using data from Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, and the extent of coverage by abstract information resources and indices, the worldwide output of periodicals and proceedings (including those represented in electronic form) is studied. A quantitative characterization of the entire output of worldwide editions, as well as its abstracted portion is given. To provide complete reception of needed subject information and cover a maximum number of periodicals using an information system, a method for selecting several databases, which makes it possible to get a maximum coverage of primary sources with a certain amount of duplication, is proposed. Data on abstracting are obtained as the result of analyzing the input stream of approximately 700 databases and indices. Basic statistics for the abstracted stream are given for a number of companies: VINITI (All-Russia Institute for Scientific and Technical Information, Russian Academy of Sciences), CSA (Chemical Abstracts Service), Thomson Corporation, Elsevier, CABI Publishing, CAS (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts), and several others. A list of 25 of the largest abstract journals and referral databases, with respect to the number of periodicals represented in them, is given.  相似文献

This paper traces the history of the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), charting its growth from a purely scientific and technical report center into a social science information resource as well. Acquisition criteria and some typical sources of social science and information processed by NTIS are discussed. Indexing practices and subject classification os particular interest to social scientists are reviewed. The relationship between NTIS and the Government Printing Office (GPO) is explained.  相似文献

The results of an analysis of the international flow of periodical and proceedings publications in different priority areas (the nanosystem industry and materials, information-telecommunication systems, rational wildlife management, and power and power conservation) and of critical technologies entering into them are presented. As the main sources of the information on foreign and Russian databases (SCOPUS, Current Contents. CSA, Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, RZH VINITI, and the Russian Academy of Sciences) open scientific Internet resources were used. For correctness, a separate preparation of the terminological base of each subject area was made. Lists of publications on the detailed publishing and data about the availability of access to them on various Internet platforms were compiled as a result. The characteristics of the most important electronic resources for each area are given. The publishing houses and companies responsible for the major publications on the considered subjects not accessible at present to the Russian scientific community through widely known consortia (NEIKON and the Russian Federal Property Fund) are revealed.  相似文献

The composition of the innovation infrastructure, as well as the most critical phases of information security at stages of the innovation cycle, is shown at the macrolevel. The foreign information systems focused on the support of innovation activities are considered. The integration of national information systems of the countries–members of the European Union into a single science and technology and innovation space is noted as a steady tendency. The most important Russian information systems focused on the support of innovation activities and the functionality of the Federal Portal on Science and Innovation and the Unified State System of accounting results of scientific research, development, and engineering works are presented. There is a lack of development of the communicative functions of information systems in scientific funds and federal scientific and technical target programs.
