There is growing concern regarding the amount and type of violence that young children are exposed to on a daily basis. Through media, popular toys and video games violent images are consistently present in children’s lives starting at a very young age. This paper discusses (a) the growing presence of young children’s exposure to media violence, (b) the influence of media violence on early childhood development and well-being, (c) the impact of media violence on young children with disabilities, and (d) recommendations for addressing this national dilemma within the context of family-professional partnerships. Understanding and respecting young children’s religious background is an important way of respecting diversity. Due to the traditional separation of church and state, many professionals tend to ignore the significant influence of religious belief and training during the early childhood years. Sharing high-quality picture books simultaneously enables adults and peers to expand their understandings of different faiths and to communicate their respect for and interest in young children’s religious education. This editorial concludes with a selective list of picture book titles that focus on different faiths that are suitable for children in the primary grades.  相似文献

部分高校科技期刊青年编辑职业发展状况的性别差异研究

【目的】了解高校科技期刊青年编辑在学历、职称、工作状况与态度、对收入满意度、学习情况、学术业绩等方面是否存在性别差异,并对其原因进行探讨。分别从编辑部、女性编辑自身角度提出发展建议,为进一步完善青年编辑队伍建设和提升编辑个人职业素养提供参考依据。【方法】 2015年5月至8月,采用随机问卷方式,对137名中国高校科技期刊20～40岁青年编辑人员进行了职业发展状况调查。对各统计项的频次和有效百分比进行了计算,并利用spss16.0统计软件,对男女青年编辑的学术业绩差异进行t检验,其他项目差异采用卡方检验。 【结果】 青年编辑职业发展问卷中各统计项的男女比例均有不同程度差异;男女青年编辑在近3年参加业务骨干、青年编辑培训人数、每周自学时间、人均主持编辑学课题数目方面的差异均存在统计学意义。【结论】 性别差异对青年编辑的职业发展有一定影响,但是有限;女性青年编辑不应妄自菲薄,应发挥自身先天优势,更好地为高校科技期刊发展贡献力量。  相似文献

An implementation and outcome evaluation of a multicomponent sexuality education programme for high school students

Numerous classroom-based interventions have aimed to improve sexual health outcomes for young people, yet few have shown strong, lasting effects. Ecological approaches that address multiple levels of a young person’s environment offer largely untapped potential to positively change sexual behaviour. This paper presents results of a cluster-randomised trial of a multicomponent sexuality education intervention that integrated a classroom curriculum, parent education workshops and materials, peer advocate programme, and sexual health services at 10 urban high schools. An implementation evaluation, employing quantitative and qualitative instruments, was conducted to examine whether the individual components of the intervention were delivered as planned and how they were received by the target populations. Multilevel modelling was used to evaluate the effect of the multicomponent intervention on outcomes at one-year follow-up. Results showed that the intervention components were successfully implemented with and well received by target populations. Students receiving the multicomponent intervention reported greater increases in the use of sexual health services (odds ratio [OR] = 1.73, 95% CI = 1.09–2.75) and the likelihood of carrying a condom (OR = 2.71, 95% CI = 1.44–5.09) relative to those receiving a control condition. No effects were found for other behaviours, possibly due to low prevalence of sexual activity in the sample and the small number of schools randomised.  相似文献
