[目的/意义]通过对2014年高校阅读推广活动优秀案例的分析,为我国高校图书馆开展阅读推广工作提供借鉴与参考。[方法/过程]使用网络调研法、文献调研法和访谈调研法,对获奖案例及其承办单位的阅读推广活动进行分析、梳理和总结。[结果/结论]高校图书馆开展阅读推广活动时应当举办创意活动以激发阅读兴趣,设立专题书展唤醒沉睡好书,联合职能部门提高活动层次,吸纳学生社团加强组织力量,利用全媒体扩大活动影响,建立长效机制创造品牌效应。  相似文献

分析英国公共图书馆为特殊群体开展阅读推广活动所取得的成效,以期对我国公共图书馆特殊群体服务提供借鉴及经验指导,促进公共图书馆服务均等化。文章采用文献研究法、案例分析法以及邮件调研的方式,选取英国部分公共图书馆阅读推广活动案例以及英国国家扫盲信托基金会(National Literacy Trust)和阅读机构(The Reading Agency)的阅读项目等进行分析研究。并对我国公共图书馆特殊群体阅读推广活动提出3点建议:加强公共图书馆与社会机构间的合作;注重品牌服务的评估机制;拓宽品牌阅读项目的受众群体。  相似文献

The emergence of social media has radically transformed the way we create and consume information. These changes have in turn given rise to new models of librarianship centered on principles of participation, interaction, and collaboration. Over the last decade, academic libraries have eagerly adopted social media as a means of enhancing services and connecting with a new generation of users. But how exactly has this technology changed libraries? In what ways has the social web transformed library services or our relationships with users? This article attempts to assess the impact of social media on academic libraries in the United States through a review of the literature published since 2005. In particular, it looks at how academic libraries have used social media to improve or develop new services. By comparing published case studies with the theoretical literature, this article seeks to separate theory from practice and determine the extent to which the social web has transformed library practice. The author concludes that, despite several noteworthy examples, the majority of social library applications ultimately fail to live up to the transformative potential promised within the literature and that this failure may have more to do with philosophical rather than technical limitations.  相似文献

This article examines salary conditions among the staff of Estonian university libraries. Previous research has shown that academic librarians are not always satisfied with their salaries, whether in developing or developed countries. The data used in this paper are based on a review of relevant literature and on the results of the original online survey created by the paper’s authors and administered in 2011/2012 in Estonian university libraries. The results are interpreted in the light of the literature, the legislation of Estonia, and the authors’ opinions, which are based on long-term working experience in Estonian academic libraries. The study concludes that the biggest challenge today for Estonian university libraries is salary: it is critical that these libraries increase their employees’ salary and thereby improve their economic status. We hope that the issues raised by this research will be helpful not only for library managers but also for library employees generally.  相似文献

Academic libraries are flocking to online social networking sites in an effort to meet users where they are. Pinterest is the latest of these rapidly growing online social networking tools. The author of this article reports results from a survey on academic libraries’ presence on Pinterest. The survey found most academic library pinboards are in their infancy. Findings suggest that before establishing a presence on Pinterest, libraries should focus on planning institutional profiles and boards. Example institutions are highlighted, and tips are offered for setting up profiles and pinning, based on information from the survey.  相似文献

The primary objectives of this research article are to explore the concept of communication tools using Facebook, and to evaluate the performance of the East West University (EWU) Library Facebook page as a communication tool. The EWU Library Facebook page uses a variety of strategies and techniques to engage with its patrons. The author's intention is to examine this library Facebook page, which is explored using a case study method. This article also focuses on how Facebook facilitates collaborations between the library and the patron's community, as well as the implications for academic libraries in the future. This case study reviews the literature on the use of social networking while focusing on Facebook as a communication tool and engaging libraries in social networking. The article emphasizes the author's experience of working in an academic library to identify the main trends in providing services based on posting various topics through the Facebook page of the EWU Library, Bangladesh. The numerous issues in adapting Facebook as a communication tool and an exploration of the opportunity and drawbacks of the use of the Facebook application in academic libraries are also discussed.  相似文献

澳大利亚大学图书馆应用Rodski用户满意度调查方法从用户的角度评价图书馆的服务工作绩效,找出图书馆服务工作的重心及急需图书馆改进的领域,以利于整体把握和推进图书馆质量管理工作。文章从调查目的及指导思想、RodskiGroup与澳大利亚大学图书馆馆长委员会(CAUL)合作方式、调查方法及数据统计方法、调查结果在图书馆工作中的应用等方面研究评价了这种调查方法及其给我国大学图书馆用户满意度调查研究和图书馆服务质量评估工作带来的启示。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This case study presents the Liverpool experience of using social media as an academic library to enhance audience engagement and create a community of users. It looks at the development of social media in the library, focusing on the concerted effort to grow followers and develop a meaningful use of these tools. It considers the value of taking a team approach, ensuring a diversity and breadth of output. Using social media effectively enables libraries to connect with users in a space they already occupy and bring added value to existing activities. A strong, well maintained social media presence enhances a library's national and international profile and ensures good on campus relationships with main stakeholders. This case study demonstrates the relevance of social media as a communication channel and the importance of selecting the correct platform depending on audience or aims. A review of library literature shows a general trend of technical services in academic libraries to reorganize into teams. This study was carried out to analyse strategies regarding the use of social media for academic library services in Ghana. The research design was quantitative and adopted the survey approach. Questionnaires served as the main data collection instrument. The study population comprised of one hundred and ten library staff from public and private universities in Ghana. As indicated by the study results, the library staff agreed that there was a need for a well-formulated social media strategy to help academic libraries identify the most appropriate social media tools, establish contact with targeted audience, and increase engagement rates to enable an effective and efficient distribution of its resources and services. The results also indicated that the academic libraries, however, seem to neglect these strategies which could drive patrons' use of such platforms. Recommendations therefore suggest the need to implement social media plans and policies, user engagement, social media update, and dedicated staff with the requisite skills in the use of social media platforms for library services delivery.  相似文献

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are first-year student residence groups based on a shared academic focus, interest, or social identity. Key to LLC success is co-curricular engagement, which can be greatly aided by library involvement. Because much of the literature on library outreach to LLCs was published two decades ago, the authors conducted a survey of academic librarians in North America to learn about the prevalence of library/LLC partnerships today. The authors learned that at many institutions with LLCs, the library is involved or is planning to be involved in offering outreach or programing to LLCs. Outreach to LLCs is primarily instruction- and library services- based, and the mechanism for delivering outreach varies widely across institutions. Survey results show that most libraries who target LLCs for outreach believe their efforts are successful and that the greatest challenge in sustaining these efforts is staffing.  相似文献

The apparent death of academic libraries, as measured by declining circulation of print materials, reduced use of reference services, and falling gate counts, has led to calls for a more “social” approach to academic libraries: installing cafés, expanding group study spaces, and developing “information commons.” This study compares these social models with the traditional academic library, whose spirit is best understood as “communal.” It argues that this communal spirit is unique and greatly valued by academic library users. Efforts to create a more social academic library threaten this communal spirit and may do more harm than good.  相似文献

More and more modern academic libraries are turning to student engagement activities designed to welcome students into Academia, join a community of scholars, and avail themselves of the full range of resources and services that a university library can provide. One unusual, but inexpensive and highly effective method of engaging students is bringing therapy dogs into the library. This article begins by explaining how therapy dogs differ from other types of dogs and how to counter objections to library engagement activities involving canines. It then offers a research-based rationale for human-canine interaction that is consistent with an academic library's mission. Next, the article addresses the planning/implementation phase a student engagement event involving handler/therapy dog teams, reviews the literature on successful programs at various institutions, and offers guidance to others seeking to initiate a similar program. A project of this type depends upon collaboration among faculty members, college students, support staff, volunteers, and the larger community. Finally, the article highlights results from a questionnaire administered to 449 students during a sequence of three “de-stress during exam week” events. Overall, the survey data suggest that: (1) social media was the most effective means of advertising, (2) students strongly supported the continuation of the event, and (3) 95% of the student participants considered interaction with the therapy dogs to be a means of stress reduction.  相似文献

[目的/意义]一个社区是否强大,有赖于该社区民众的内力,这种内力就是韧性。韧性是一种适应并应对变化的能力。一个有韧性的人,不仅有危机意识,有开放的心态,而且有应对变化和解决问题的素养。图书馆服务不仅潜移默化地提升民众的韧性素养,而且为他们提供了有利于学习和交流的安全舒适的空间。[方法/过程]从图书馆所处的社会背景及其需求出发,聚焦韧性与可持续发展、阅读与信息服务在韧性培育中所起的作用、韧性社会与图书馆发展3个方面的问题,通过分析图书馆的社会功能及其在社会发展尤其是在抵御风险过程中应有的作用,进一步表明图书馆与韧性社会建设之间的关联,并提出可化为具体行动的对策和建议。[结果/结论]首先,要充分认识图书馆开展韧性素养教育的意义,并以此为切入点,努力拓展图书馆参与并融入社会的发展空间。图书馆要以社会需求为导向,将各种相关服务拓展到社会、家庭和个人。图书馆不仅要开展韧性素养教育,而且要为民众提升信息素养、媒体素养、技术素养以及职业素养等创造有利条件,为他们提供和谐安全的分享和交流空间。其次,要着力创新韧性素养教育活动,开拓新的服务项目。图书馆在继续开展阅读推广活动的同时,也应将阅读推广中积累起来的成功经验和最佳实践有效应用到韧性素养活动中,并通过参与社区韧性建设,拓展图书馆服务社区的新空间和新技能。最后,要大力提升图书馆应对各类风险和危机的能力及馆员自身的韧性素养。图书馆要树立大安全观和危机管理意识,増强抵御各类风险和危机的能力。韧性素养教育的过程也是馆员自我学习和锻炼的过程,要紧紧抓住这一机遇,努力以更强大、更坚定的职业韧性投入并服务于韧性社会建设。  相似文献

The attractiveness of social networking sites (SNSs) has extended to almost all professionals in numerous human organizations including the library. Librarians as a result of this development are now making use of these sites to connect to other libraries and librarians both within and outside their environment. However, it is observed that the use and benefits derived from social networking sites by Nigerian librarians, generally, and those in academic libraries, particularly, has not been well documented. It is against this backdrop that this study examined the use of social networking sites to both the libraries and the librarians in selected academic libraries in six Nigerian States. A survey research design approach was adopted. The simple random study drew upon 200 academic librarians from academic libraries across six selected States in Nigeria. Five research questions were raised and answered by the study. The results demonstrate that Facebook and Twitter are mostly use by academic librarians. Academic librarians are making use of SNSs on a weekly basis and partially on a daily basis. Many potential benefits of SNSs were indicated both to the librarians and their libraries such as creating opportunity to connect with people across the globe, which includes those that have never been seen and those that one is not sure of coming in contact with. It was also found that SNSs give opportunity for academic libraries to incorporate SNSs as a means of creating more interactive user centered library and information services. Examples of the defects identified associated with SNSs include sexual harassment, cybercrime, fraud, and spreading of spam. It is expected that the outcomes of this study will serve as pioneer data upon which future related studies will be anchored.  相似文献

Research is a planned and scientific method of increasing knowledge that is typically funded by a country's government or funding agencies. Research activity produces valuable data. Research Data Services (RDS) or Research Data Management (RDM) services are considered vital services provided by an academic library and are focused on the management, archiving, processing, and reuse of critical research data. This study evaluates the current status of the adaptation of RDS or RDM services in Indian academic libraries (which includes a total of 186 institutions, including all of India's Central Universities (54) and Institutes of National Importance (132)). A method triangulation approach was used for the data collection, including a literature survey, library website study, online survey, and telephonic interview with LIS professionals from Indian academic libraries. Academic libraries in India are yet to keep up with those in developed countries in adopting RDM services owing to a lack of RDM policy, institutional support, and technological challenges, according to the data. The study also presents suggestions to decision-makers, higher authorities of academic institutions, and the government to develop a strong RDM policy at both the institutional and national levels defining the role and duties of the libraries in RDM.  相似文献

In order to establish recruitment procedures to fill professional vacancies, a committee was formed to investigate current recruitment and selection practices in academic libraries. The literature on recruitment was reviewed, and a questionnaire was sent to libraries at large academic institutions across the U.S. Results indicated that recruitment practices are not uniform, but that most libraries attempt to advertise widely. The survey revealed that the level of participation of professional staff in recruitment and selection procedures varies greatly. Search committees are used for all levels of professional positions, but their charges and power are not well-defined or consistent. Little standardization of recruitment and selection practices exists. Social sciences librarians may be especially interested in this application of a social science method-that of the structured survey-to a library issue.  相似文献
