Zhuangzi is the masterpiece of Zhuangzi, and Walden is the masterpiece of Henry David Thoreau. This paper intends to study the similarities of Zhuangzi’s and Thoreau’s outlooks on life by analyzing Thoreau’s origin with Taoism and the absorption from Taoism in Walden. By making a large amount of analysis and comparison of the texts in these two works, the paper comes to such a conclusion: both Thoreau and Zhuangzi advocate to simplify people’s material life and to seek voluntary poverty; they are willing to enjoy the solitude and pursue the spiritual independence and freedom; they prefer to return to nature, live harmoniously with nature and therefore reach the realm of"unity of heaven and humanity". They pay more attention to human existence and their spiritual state. In the complicated modern society, people devote themselves to seeking a materially rich life. However, they do not attach enough importance to spiritual richness. As a result, the whole human society is facing a serious spiritual crisis in modern times. This paper examines the specific research question of how co-membership in discourse style and life experience influences teacher’s coauthoring on student’s narratives in the ESL teaching and learning context in the United States. As a case study,a specific student’s classroom narratives are transcribed and analyzed. The research findings indicate that a shared discourse style and an overlap in life experience between the teacher and the student will exert positive influence on the teacher’s coauthoring on the student’s narratives. Above all,sharing the same discourse style makes it possible for the teacher to recognize the rhythm of the student’s narratives,to detect the moments when the student needs interactional support and offer help,and to quickly notice a potential ending of the student’s narrative and expand it with open-ended questions and comments. In addition,an overlap in life experience makes it possible for the teacher to go deep into the student’s narratives by contributing specific and concrete thoughts rather than responding with superficial ideas. 相似文献

The two English versions of Lu Xun’s stories, translated by Julia Lovell and the Rangs, are to be studied from the ecotranslatological perspective. A comparative study of the two English versions is made to figure out how the two translators linguistically and culturally make adaptive selections in the process of translation of Lu Xun’s stories—In other words, how the eco-environment has greatly influenced the two translators’ decisions to make adaptations and choices in linguistic and cultural aspects.The thesis discovers that the eco-environment has greatly influenced the process of translating Lu Xun’s stories into English and eco-translatology is feasible to analyze the two translations, that both the Yangs and Lovell have offered successful translations by making adaptive selections and selective transformations. Therefore, neither of the two translations is superior or inferior to one another in different translational eco- environments. Hopefully, the thesis may enrich current researches on the Yang’s and Lovell’s translations and may be useful for the further study of applying eco-translatology to studies on other translators and their works. 相似文献

"Beauty is truth, truth beauty"-the famous line in English romantic poet John Keats’Ode on a Grecian Urn-has triggered wide discussion and numerous interpretations. From the point of"negative capability", a phrase first coined by Keats himself, this paper is attempting to display the consistency between that poetic line and the poet’s creation and life attitude on the whole. For this purpose, this paper will mainly introduce and interpret five of Keats’famous odes in the order of their display of his"rising acceptance of life": Ode to a Nightingale, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to Autumn, Ode on Melancholy and Ode on Indolence. As a typical car-dependent city, Los Angeles (LA) is extensively used as an example in research to illustrate car influences on city form. Focusing on the features of LA’s geologic conditions and civil circumstances, we argued that the relationship between LA’s low-density pattern and car dependence is more involved than previously deemed simple causality. The low density should be primarily credited to the spacious requirement of the mining industry, frequent earthquakes and multiethnic population of the city. Oil reserves in LA fueled its economic boom and fast urbanization that coincided with the start of mass production of cheap cars, and cars became medium-priced consumables for average families. Politicians preference for short construction-period projects enabled fast establishment of LA’s highway infrastructure. The popularity of car use in return faciliatated further development of the low-density pattern of the city. The low-density urban form and car dependence created environmental and social problems for LA. Looking at P. R. China’s motorization and urban development, we found that the trajectory of Beijing’s motorization between 1978 and 2003 coincides with that of the U.S. in the 1910s and 1920s. Lessons from LA’s urban and transportation development should be suggestive to China’s urban and transportation planning. 相似文献
