通过建立图书馆服务质量综合差距模型,提出基于差距模型的11个研究假设,并结合问卷调查所获数据,对该模型进行实证研究。实证研究结果得出评估图书馆服务质量差距的简化模型,并发现图书馆服务提供过程中存在的一些问题,从而证明以读者感知为基础的差距评估模式是客观、科学的。最后以实证研究结果为基础提出改善和提高图书馆服务质量的几点建议。  相似文献

Abstract

Distance programs utilize various strategies and technologies in an attempt to keep students and faculty connected. Express mail delivery, telephone and conference calls, electronic mail and compressed video sessions have all been used with varying degrees of success. This paper discusses the use of a novel Desktop Video Conferencing (DTVC) product, CU-SeeMe, and offers an analysis of its effectiveness in providing distance instruction and library support to a cohort of medical technology students embarked on the clinical rotation phase of their program at the University of Wyoming. We conclude that the potential benefits of this low cost technology outweigh the inconveniences of working with an immature technology.  相似文献

The traditional library organization for over forty years has been divided into technical services and public services. The age of automation, however, is bringing these two areas much closer together, and in some large academic libraries, the technical services librarian and the public services librarian are the same person. The work done in serials acquisitions and collection development is now available online in many libraries. Several libraries also have automated serials control and cataloging capabilities. With the advent of online access to serials, reference, interlibrary loan and library instruction services have simplified the work demands for the reference librarian. This conclusion suggests that cooperation between technical services and public services is the logical solution to provide the best possible service to the library patron.  相似文献

Despite the realities of the Information Society, national concerns for quality education in America have largely ignored libraries. The major cause of this neglect is the lack of perception among most educational leaders that library personnel and resources both have something to offer in the search for excellence and that librarians are committed to serving their institutions' learning priorities. To rectify this situation will require informed and aggressive leadership by librarians. Nonetheless, concerns raised by some educational leaders call for reforms that have strong implications for the instructional role of libraries. Resource-based learning can make a major contribution to preparing students for lifelong learning, active citizenship and risk taking. A number of recent, current and projected activities and publications are described. These can offer a good foundation for librarians wishing to promote information literacy and/or resource-based learning.  相似文献

A review is presented of the creation, activities and evolution of the Regional Serials Committee of the Serials Section of the American Library Association's Resources and Technical Services Division. For approximately ten years the committee has been using various means to evaluate serials matters and to inform librarians concerning these. The committee has sponsored workshops and published helpful manuals. Energies are now being directed toward the collecting of educational materials to be used in serials/training for acquisitions, check in, claiming, cataloging, binding, retrospective conversion, public service and automation. The purpose of this chapter is to address the issues of information seeking behavior within a context of an information poor life style. Several factors can be attributed to an information poor world. For example, it is one in which the mass media are not viewed as providers of useful information. Moreover, this is a world in which there is a parsimony of helpful interpersonal channels. Thus, both formal and personal sources are devoid of everyday practical information of the kind that is needed by poor people. In addressing reasons to explain this phenomenon, knowledge gap theory is examined. The conclusion drawn from this analysis is that, although the mass media are perceived as sources of information for some (the "media rich"), they do not respond to the needs of the poor. Unfortunately, the role that interpersonal sources might play in this process, have not been adequately addressed by knowledge gap researchers.  相似文献
