图书馆专业化作为图书馆学理论的一个命题以及图书馆人长期追求的一个目标,正受到来自图书馆界内外部过度社会化的挑战。尽管社会化是图书馆事业可持续发展的路径选择之一,但决不能以动摇图书馆专业化根基为代价。图书馆过度社会化对专业化造成的威胁体现在四个方面：(1)在职能层面正陷于过度发展休闲职能而挤压基本职能的误区;(2)在机构层面正遭遇社会属性不断突出、愿景与使命不明、组织结构复杂多样、法人治理整体水平低、基层图书馆专业性受外包限制等困扰;(3)在业务层面因外包范围从事务类扩展至专业类工作而导致图书馆采编水平降低、馆藏质量下降与读者活动专业性弱化,正面临职能根基与职业精神动摇的风险;(4)在职业层面因大量社会从业人员与志愿者被引入专业岗位而影响了馆员队伍专业性,并引发了图书馆学专业教育生存危机。本文以图书馆专业化学理依据为基础,从矫正过度社会化的视角提出未来图书馆专业化实践路径：(1)引导职能专业化须适度发挥休闲职能,其边界在于能否保障图书馆文献信息服务基本职能,并在休闲职能中体现图书馆信息、教育、文化与科学功能;(2)维持机构专业化须坚持图书馆专业属性不动摇,恰当确立专业使命与愿景,推动法人... 相似文献

Existing research argues that studies of the value of public libraries support libraries by demonstrating their worth to society. Knowledge of research methods, value and research gaps can potentially strengthen the field of value research and support policymaking and development of libraries. Among 16,683 records retrieved from a systematic literature search, 39 studies were selected for systematic review within this topic. Findings indicate that studies focus on examining libraries as valued community assets in several aspects. It is recommended that further research explore how library services enhance democracy, reading and culture. Moreover, further research is needed that systematically reviews how libraries articulate their value to stakeholders. Concluding remarks state that value can be a robust measure for emphasising and developing libraries' worth towards society. By systematically reviewing how value is emphasized in activities, libraries are provided with the means to advocate political empathy and to develop towards community needs. 相似文献

A survey of U.S. libraries owning fiction from Canadian publishers revealed important differences in how Canadian fiction is acquired by U.S. public and academic libraries. Public libraries demonstrated remarkable uniformity in how they acquire Canadian fiction, academic libraries great diversity. The importance of reviews—especially in public libraries and especially reviews in a small core of journals—was confirmed. Other factors contributing to the acquisition of Canadian fiction especially by U.S. academic libraries are described and their impact analyzed. The paper ends with a warning that one must not conclude from these findings that public libraries in general depend uniformly or primarily on reviews for the bulk of their fiction selection. As a follow-up to their 2001/2002 study on printing services in academic libraries, the authors explore how the provision of printing services has changed over the last twelve years. This article explores how libraries are choosing to fund printing services as well as how technology, such as scanning and mobile devices, has changed the way printing services are provided. The results of the 2013 survey find a greater percentage of libraries are using a fee-based system for printing, and, while some technology is providing greater data and control for printing services, other technological advances are having unintended consequences for libraries’ printing infrastructure. 相似文献

Academic libraries have long been seen as trustworthy stewards of user information, but in an increasingly dispersed digital environment, it has become challenging for libraries to provide completely safe online experiences. This essay, written from the perspective of a systems librarian at Boston College, suggests that academic libraries need to re-invent their privacy practices to better align with today's online reality. A collaborative, holistic approach is proposed: embedding privacy into how libraries collect, how they implement online access, how they teach, and how they advocate for privacy on their campuses. By taking a comprehensive look at privacy concerns across the library and the campus, and by developing practices grounded in the ethical underpinning of our profession, academic librarians can begin to earn back the trust of our users. 相似文献
