The concept of wellness, although an old one, has recently become an important part of health education. The theory behind wellness is that the person tries to achieve a state of self-directed wellness with the guidance of facilitators and educational materials, rather than being directed by an instructor. Journal clubs are an effective means to increase skills in handling evidence and support the continuing professional development of library and knowledge services workers. This editorial examines the progression of HILJ Club, an online journal club, from an idea to the launch of a dedicated platform. One article is selected per issue of the Health Information and Libraries Journal with an open discussion invited following a brief summary and reflections by a host. Participation in HILJ Club is growing. Future success is reliant on wider engagement, and an invitation is extended to join in the discussions or even host an edition. 相似文献

[目的/意义]为了让学校决策者了解学科现状、优势与不足,促进学科内涵建设,同时让图书馆实时掌握学科建设数据信息,为学科服务和资源建设提供重要依据,设计高校学科建设数据信息平台。[方法/过程]基于Pentaho BI平台,利用Pentaho BI平台的集成工具来收集与分析来自各个学科管理部门的系统数据,通过Dataverse Network平台收集与管理来自研究人员的科研数据,从而构建高校学科建设数据信息平台,对数据进行处理、分析和挖掘,产生数据报表、多维数据分析图、仪表盘和数据分类与聚类的图表。[结果/结论]高校图书馆作为学校的文献信息中心,是学校教学工作和科学研究工作的重要组成部分,因此应当积极参与到学校学科建设数据信息平台的设计与研究工作中来,并在科研数据的收集与管理方面发挥重要的作用。 相似文献

AbstractAcademic libraries typically employ a top-down approach to employee performance evaluations, which often does little to reveal an employee’s needs within the workplace and fails to provide an opportunity for supervisors to assess and reflect on how their actions impact the work environment. Using an autoethnographic approach, a supervisor and a support staff member developed an assessment instrument to evaluate the supervisor-supported work climate in one department of an academic library. This project helped promote both individual and department-wide discussion on what elements make a supportive work climate and provided the supervisor an opportunity to reflect on ways to improve support efforts. This article includes practical information as well as the lived experiences of the collaborators. 相似文献

In an effort to provide continuing education to the students working at the Hardin Library reference desk, staff members have created an online training course using the University of Iowa's course management system called ICON(Iowa Courses Online). The course has four main components-a content page, an article discussion forum, quizzes, and a challenging questions module. ICON has quickly become an essential training resource and has also provided an electronic professional community for students who primarily work in isolation. Additionally, the experience with the software has positioned the library to provide training support for the health campus and to take advantage of new technology based collaborations. 相似文献

This article is based on a study which aimed at broadening archival representation by investigating how to bring the contemporary history of the South African Portuguese community into the country’s archival heritage. To achieve this aim, the study sought to develop an archival collecting model for the records generated by Portuguese community-based organisations, since these materials are deemed an important source for preserving the social history, memories and experiences of an under-documented group, such as the Portuguese in South Africa. National and international sources were analysed and reviewed, and an empirical investigation to examine the Portuguese community organisations was conducted, in order to gain an understanding of the most effective strategies for collecting, managing and preserving these records. This article therefore proposes an archival collecting model for the records generated by South African Portuguese community-based organisations which demonstrates the processes, resources and other factors that are necessary to establish and sustain an archival collecting initiative for the Portuguese community in South Africa. It is hoped that, in addition to benefitting the Portuguese community, the model will also benefit other underdocumented communities in South Africa interested in preserving their histories and experiences. 相似文献

This research article is based on a national survey, conducted in 2016, concerning the value of an advanced subject degree in addition to a master's degree in library science (MLS/MLIS) for liaison librarians. In the article we discuss perceptions academic librarians have about their own professional education, the potential merit (or lack thereof) of an additional graduate degree, and the relationship and interdependence between both degrees as perceived by those who have obtained them. Two groups of academic librarians are evaluated: those with both an MLS/MLIS and an advanced subject degree, and those with solely an MLS/MLIS degree. This study utilizes both quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the current population related to our research. The overarching goal of this study is to ask questions and stimulate conversation about the value of an advanced degree and how academic library liaisons can acquire and develop skills required to successfully serve as liaison and subject librarians. 相似文献

According to ISO 15489, the international standard on records management, the four main characteristics of authoritative records are reliability, integrity, usability and authenticity. In this article, the traits of an ideal record as specified by ISO 15489 are discussed by looking at the opposite of an authentic record – a forgery. By examining the varieties of forgeries found in archives, ranging from forgeries of details to forgeries of entire documents both by record creators and users, the argument is put forth that the difference between an authentic and reliable record and a forgery is not at all obvious. Since forgeries are a regrettable evil of an archive, instead of trying to fix authenticity, more thought should be spared on users’ and archivists’ attitudes towards forgeries and how inauthentic records should be handled in an archive. 相似文献

After a challenge to librarians by a British journal publisher to consider an alternative “pay only for use” model for journal articles, an extended e-mail conversation took place with the head of collections in one American academic library. That discussion explored issues in the current journal publication system and led to adoption of the model on an experimental basis. In practice, the model shed light on issues, strengths, and weaknesses of alternative and pay-per-view distribution of journal content, as part of an overall collection development strategy. 相似文献
