AbstractAt the end of 2017, the National Library of China (NLC) was invited by the RDA Board to become the National Institution Representative for Asia. It is a good opportunity for the NLC to be more visible and to contribute to the international community. However, RDA promotion is a demanding task considering the economic and professional conditions in Asia. In this article, we (1) summarize RDA study and practice in China especially NLC’s advances, (2) analyze the survey of Asian libraries conducted by the NLC in 2018 with regard to RDA, and (3) discuss RDA promotion initiatives undertaken by the NLC. 相似文献

AbstractThis article analyzes the role of national bibliographies—with particular reference to the Italian National Bibliography—as relevant tools for national bibliographic control. In the first part of the article, the historical and scientific context of international standards is summarized. The second part describes the role played by the Central National Library of Florence (BNCF) in the realization of the bibliographic control of Italian publications. The limits and the potential of the Italian National Bibliography produced by BNCF are highlighted and compared with the Italian National Library Service (SBN), which is the most important national collective catalog among Italian libraries. 相似文献

The second annual survey of serial resources indicates that growth of serial collections in university libraries is negligible. College libraries attempted to maintain "steady state" collections. Public libraries seemed to fare somewhat better, there were few cancellations. Only the two national institutions, Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information and the National Library of Canada, achieved a systematic growth in their serial resources. In Finland an integrated network called LINNEA (Library Information Network for Academic Libraries) has been set up to facilitate the automation of academic libraries. The goal of the LINNEA network, with headquarters at the Helsinki University Library, is to become an open national bibliographic resource. The Finnish union library catalogue, called LINDA, was established in 1993. It is based on the catalogues of twenty university libraries, the national bibliographic database Fennica, and Finuc-S (the Finnish Union Catalogue-Serials). At the moment, the LINDA database includes some two million records for monographs and serials. The host of the database is the Helsinki University Library which is officially he National Library of Finland with a vast range of responsibilities. A record of efforts of setting up a national library forms part of the general information on the development of libraries in any country. The Ford Foundation, the Nigerian Library Association, and the 1959 library advisory committee of the West African Library Association, Nigeria’s pre-independence federal parliament and government made varying contributions to the establishment of the National Library of Nigeria. Three decades after the establishment of the Library, its operations, personnel, working facilities, status as government parastatal, annual budget allocation, management patterns, and statutory instruments have improved or changed. Whereas the cardinal objective for establishing the library remains dynamic in view of the influence of new media technologies or modern library services, this study captures the emerging historical trends, examines salient problems of the Library, and projects into its future. 相似文献

[目的/意义]为纪念国家图书馆建馆110周年,以国家图书馆和公共图书馆为主要对象,讨论图书馆在国际文化交流中的作用与地位。[研究设计/方法]基于文本调查,对近年来国内外政策法律和规划中关于图书馆国际文化交流的内容进行分析。[结论/发现]图书馆在国际文化交流中扮演着五大角色:中介者角色、推动者角色、组织者角色、中心角色、领导者角色。图书馆开展的国际文化交流活动主要有:出版物交换,数字图书馆共建共享,图书馆员业务交流。基于图书馆的角色定位和主要活动,提出图书馆在国际文化交流中发挥着四个方面的作用:保护人类文化遗产;对内引进国外先进文化;对外传播民族优秀文化;保护文化多样性、促进跨文化对话。[创新/价值]该研究有助于推动图书馆对外文化交流的整体发展。 相似文献

The National Library of Medicine Extramural Program in administering the Medical Library Assistance Act of 1965 has developed the following specific program objectives: provide financial assistance for improving biomedical libraries; encourage and assist the establishment and functioning of a responsive national biomedical information network by strengthening present biomedical libraries and their interlibrary relationships; and assure that the biomedical library network is linked to related science information systems. The ultimate goal is to develop the role of the library as a full learning resource center for education, research, and service. The regional library program aims to augment present capability of existing medical libraries so that information can be made available more extensively and more rapidly.
