Understanding students’ engagement in MOOCs: An integration of self-determination theory and theory of relationship quality

Although Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) attract millions of people to enroll in their courses, the completion rate for most courses is very low. A majority of MOOCs students are not fully engaged in MOOCs, thus leading them to quit in the early stage of the courses. Therefore, it is important to investigate students’ engagement in MOOCs. Drawing on self-determination theory and the theory of relationship quality, this study proposes a model that conceptualizes the MOOCs engagement as consisting of psychological engagement and behavioral engagement and explores the antecedents of students’ engagement in MOOCs. The research model is tested using data collected from 374 students of Chinese University MOOC. The results show that fulfillment of three basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness have significant positive effects on intrinsic motivation, increasing students’ psychological engagement in MOOCs. Relationship quality significantly predicts students’ psychological engagement, and psychological engagement promotes behavioral engagement in MOOCs. Implications for research and practice as well as limitations of this study are discussed finally.  相似文献   

Walking backwards into the future: Indigenous wisdom within design education

This research parallels Tongan academic Hūfanga ‘Okusitino Māhina’s assertions in the 1994 Contemporary Pacific article Our Sea of Islands, that ‘People are thought to walk forward into the past and walk backward into the future, both taking place in the present, where the past and the future are constantly mediated in the ever-transforming present’ alongside those of Professor Terry Irwin and fellow Transition Designers in which they discuss the use of Indigenous Wisdom to enable designing for the Long Now as defined by Brand in his 1999 book The Clock for the Long Now: Time and Responsibility. In the 2015 Transition Design Monograph Irwin asserts that, ‘Transition Design draws on knowledge and wisdom from the past to conceive solutions in the present with future generations in mind’. This paper draws on the pre-industrial wisdom of indigenous knowledge, specifically that of the Pacific regions, Moana, who have lived and designed sustainably in-place for generations to illustrate the value it holds for the formulation of sustainable and sustaining futures.  相似文献

基于BP神经网络和AR模型的人口预测

利用MATLAB编程软件,分别建立BP神经网络和AR模型,采用全国出生率,死亡率,老年抚养率等9个指标作为样本,分别对BP网络和AR模型进行训练,预测5年后的人口数量.结果表明这两种方法预测人口均是可行的,效果较好,误差很小,但是AR模型较适合线性预测,而BP网络适合较非线性预测.  相似文献

城市农民工就业培训问题实证研究——基于对江苏省常州市302位农民工的调查与分析

根据302份调查问卷数据,具体分析农民工入城就业情况与参与技术培训情况,结果显示,城市农民工就业情况堪忧,参与职业技术培训比率低,效果差。他们期待由政府和企业承担培训费用,渴盼以短期、休息时间为主,采取在职学习和现场学习等教学模式,期望除了就业单位培训外,还对政府行为寄予厚望。因此,有关部门应完善农民工就业促进机制,建立农民工职业技术培训长效机制。  相似文献

摘要：游戏是人类文化的本质,一切文化包括体育文化都因游戏而生。立足于胡塞尔现象学还原的方法论指导，以“回到历史事实”的文本意义阐释为主，主要采用文献资料法，对近代以来我国体育运动的价值变迁进行历史回溯和分析，在具体的社会发展阶段、时间节点与个案呈现中，阐释体育运动在我国被赋予的国族观念和民族身份。论文从文化历史学的角度对赫伊津哈《游戏的人》中的游戏形式和功能特征进行阐释，文化滥觞期的仪式化行为具有游戏的一切基本特征，体育从其起源及其发展进程中的仪式化是其重要的宗教性隐喻表征和再现；自由、娱乐和人性是体育的本体属性表征；从赫伊津哈游戏的理论、特征、体育的文化表征即为游戏的境界出发审视近代以来我国体育价值观念嬗变的过程，立足于本体论和价值论的哲学视野认为新时期我国体育发展要坚持“以人为本”的体育本体价值回归、体育本源中游戏、娱乐精神的强调以及规范、长效的竞赛制度的建立和维护的学理认知。  相似文献
